Sweet Home for Unknowns, Dramatic Stage for Rebels Art Complex Design Individual Work | Design Studio Fall 2018 An artist needs a hotbed to alleviate stress before he comes famous. People tend to focus more on famous artists than their growing process. The artists that are not so famous need a more liberal social environment while more artists establish art communities for communicating and sharing their financial stress. Since the middle of the last century, artist communities have spontaneously emerged in Beijing. They rented houses from farmers, transformed them into studios and dormitories and held regular exhibitions in open spaces. With the development of the city, these art communities have moved from the Old Summer Palace to Caochangdi, Songzhuang, 798 Industrial Zone, and Huantie Art District. However, rising rents have commercialized these art parks. Combining the trend of commercialization with the artist's shared community is one way to support their development

Migration History of Unknown Artists
As the end of 1980s, a group of unemployed migrant artists gathered in the Old Summer Palace. They started to establish the Artists Village, which grew to nearly 400 people over the next five years. Though they could only live a simple life, here they were free to create works, thus opening up a road to Chinese contemporary art.
Low rent and free lifestyle were most attractive for artists. In the heyday of the Artists Village, under- known painter s, poets, performance artists and musicians held exhibitions and gatherings in the forests and courtyards. But in the fall of 1995, the Artists Village was dismissed.
At that time, Songzhuang was a rural village in the east of Beijing. Its sparse population and low rent were the major reasons for artists to move here from the Artists Village in the Old Summer Palace in 1995. Since 2000, Songzhuang has become not only a place for artists to live and work but also a home for the unknown.
In 2001, industrial plants in DAD of Jiuxianqiao road was retained and leased to artists for their creation and exhibition. After more than 20 years of development, it has become the most prestigious international art district in Beijing. However, its commercialization has driven up rents. Consequently, most underknown artists had to leave. 3

Artists need places to refresh themselves from creative but laborious work. Single dormitory arrayed along the broadest circle can provide a compact but also relaxing atmosphere for them.
If people who live here want to enrich themselves by reading, researching and discussing, they can book a study room and enjoy their own space without interruption.
Artists here can book an exchange room to sell their artworks or for other business need. Also they can organize salon here to brainstorm for new art ideas and gathering with friends.
For far-from-famous artists who cannot afford to live here or reduce budget as low as possible, there are free shared room. Everyone who are producing art work here can apply for free flat.

Modularization can be a way of life: it has certain limitations and solves user design problems; it is also operable, providing users with different options. Modules with learning ability and environmental adaptability are new ideas for urban organization. The most representative modular design in Omniloop is people's exclusive car, which runs through the construction process of the park. From the very beginning, when a series of functional groups had not been built in the park, the car became an omni-cell of Huantie, providing the necessary conditions for people living and working in it like a RV. The car runs on the track to realize the function of social interaction in human society, providing an active communication environment for entrepreneurs and artists.

Omniloop uses cars as a vehicle to transport people and materials to other parts of the park through erected trams or organized shuttles within the park. Cars in Omniloop, like intracellular transport cells, have become one of the carriers of rapid passage and accurate transportation. Everything is modular. From cars which people can choose to live or work in to landscape greening, they can be produced, processed and combined in the form of prefabricated modules to form a diversification under a limited budget and construction period.

There will be more stories on the parallel tracks. Accidental encounters trigger more exciting opportunities. At this point, people get out of their cars to see their passengers, and then meet again on their way out. The uncertainty of the city is magnified. Probative socialization comes from online to offline.
The free choice of plans and facades in many standardized accessories highlights the diversity of omniloop. People achieve sustainable development through second-hand trading and shared space. The interpretation of individual ideals and environmental responsibility is the foundation of the formation of this small city. With the help of APPs and other intelligent city methods, it independently performs its "obligations of hospitality" and absorbs a variety of individuals under safe conditions.
Freely select modules to combine cars to form a suitable plan for yourself. The placement of load-bearing structures can safely increase the number of floors in cars.
The quick construction device next to the landing track can add accessories to your car at any time.

The cars are mainly load-bearing by the steel structure, supplemented by the steel-wood structure, and use aluminum composite panels and resin materials as the maintenance structure of the exterior wall and roof to realize the lightness and assembly of the carriage. The roof can be equipped with solar panels and rainwater collection system to save energy. The steel structure connected by joints is convenient for modification and reorgani ation, and the combination and replacement of multiple cars can be realized. The loft space formed by the combination of two cars is a typical type of space that is convenient for users to work and rest. The balcony, doors and windows can be replaced. On the one hand the lightweight and reorganized structure is to adapt to changes in user preferences, on the other hand it is easy to recycle and reuse.

03 LABYRINTHOS
Dramatic Stage for Rebels, Perishable Canvas of Civilization
Architecture Game Design | Design Studio Team memberďźšHanyi Zhang, Ruixiang Xu Spring 2018 In a traditional cultural complex, people understand cultural objects and their changes through exhibits and exhibition sequence. The curator is the screenwriter and director of the cultural theater, the exhibits are the characters, and the artist is the actor. In the face of this cultural drama, people are unknown audience, at best to write a commentary at the end of the play. In the face of this xenophobic culture, how to make new people become the protagonist of this culture has become an urgent problem to be solved. To answer the above questions, we need to think about: How is the cultural perspective formed? How to identify and screen collective culture and individual culture? How should we divide the culture reasonably? How can people be on the scene?
23
24
The new cultural scope of the city expands first and then shrinks with the change in the scope of the city. From the 1970s to 2010, the scope of Beijing City continued to expand, from the original fourth ring and fifth ring to the sixth ring. In 2010, the city began to stock, redevelop and utilize existing sites and buildings.

In addition to the cultural growth of the city, the current feelings of urban culture also have a great influence on the image of the city. The cultural anchors within the Second Ring Road of Beijing are scattered in the Forbidden City, Shichahai and Wangfujing areas. The Forbidden City is a symbol of the imperial political and cultural center, Shichahai is a symbol of urban life, and Wangfujing is a cultural front for exhibition, exchange and tolerance. Commercial, historical, fashionable, and royal cultural symbols all gather here, forming a large supermarket for culture. Subjects were asked to walk and observe on Wangfujing Street with recording equipment. The device could record galvanic skin response, which reflected real-time emotional arousal. Combined with the questionnaire feedback, the cultural status, organization patterns and connections of Wangfujing Street are shown in the following figure. The level of culture and openness is shown on the right. For the group, the cultural experience on Wangfujing Street is not even.

In addition to analyzing the group memory from the perspective of urban and sociology, we used psychology to explore the memory and behavior of individuals. For the same subjects and some new subjects who did not participate in the experiment, we asked them to describe the image of Beijing City and draw a mental map that they thought could reflect the center of Beijing culture as accurately as possible. In the analysis of the mental map, the information was sorted out from three levels: location, elements and relationship between the elements. The specific location on the map varies depending on the background and age of the participants, but the elements used for presentation can be classified into three categories: point, polyline, and polygon. Points are used to represent location information, polylines important roads and polygons location information and areas. Most of the logic in the map is embodied by polyline elements, which organize points or express the relationship among polygons through line elements. Psychology Maps from Subjects
Elements Analysis in the Maps
Psychological Map Composition
After summarizing the anchors and targets in dozens of psychological maps and analyzing the routes in them, we drew a multipsy map to express people’s understanding of cultural facilities in Wangfujing Street and area in the Second Ring Road of Beijing. In this map, you can find basic location information and routes, which also reflect the content of cultural memory such as local people’s memories of Wangfujing Street during the Republic of China, the photography of foreign photographers with important historical influence on Wangfujing and historical anecdotes. These cultural memories are not serious enough, but they are vivid. 27
Our goal is to make an architectural game. We used this psy map as our game map, converting the broken line elements into pipes to form a maze, embedding the investigated anchor points into the box as a point element, and using the environmental background information as a surface element.
28
We wrote a game script and set the game background in Beijing a hundred years later. Faced with urban population and environmental problems, much of Beijing has moved underground, and the maze is an aboveground game hall for urban culture in the 21st century. It retains the state of science and technology and the environment at that time, and shares popular science and memories among citizens. The NPCs in the game are played by AI, and players can set a stand-alone or network mode in the game. Players can choose their own route in the pipelines and develop a plot with NPCs. The scene of Beijing in the old times will be presented through immersive AR, including the Forbidden City nearby and the mountains far away. Bonus branches are also interspersed in the passage, such as the opportunity to see the real status of the Forbidden City by the Ferris wheel.
29
What we want to criticize is the role of human beings in the progress of life. As smart and great as our community is, it has also caused a lot of trauma to the planet. From the first photo of the hole in the ozone layer to the first recent glacier funeral, humans have indeed done some irreversible damage to the planet. But what will happen after that? Are we really going to fall into the black hole of silicon-based life as the rise of artificial intelligence like some of the movies in the Matrix series? Maybe, because although we are great, we are not gods. But as a member of the human group, we hope to see life struggle. In the face of possible friends and enemies in the future, while promoting human goodwill of protecting the group, this spirit is one of the greatest evolutionary achievements of mankind.

A monument for recording people's endless pursuit of speed Hyperloop Campus Design Team member: Hanyi Zhang, Yuheng Wu, Xindi Wang, Yitian Xie Summer 2020 Scientists have been thinking about the way people travel, and the capsule car hyperloop in the vacuum maglev rail transit has become an important development direction of the future fast track. Hyperloop, as the most important transportation revolution since automobiles and aircraft, re uires a landmark campus for scientific research and exhibition in the future. How to solve the development and expansion of the campus through monuments, express the rapid and safe hyperloop, and leave room for future expansion and visit is an urgent challenge for the park.

This campus is a monument that records people’s endless pursuit of speed. With the development of science and technology, we can shuttle between cities at a greater speed, and the distance between cities has been relatively shortened. Speed, time and distance can be expressed succinctly with a formula: distance equals speed multiplied by time. After reaching the ideal speed, the train can pass through the entire building in only 3.065 seconds. That simple formula is frequently used in the tests and thus becomes the core for this campus. We consider allowing architecture to develop along a line, like a ruler, that measures the limits of human speed and the boundaries of ambition.
Located in the desert of Las Vegas, this campus is a wonderful tourist attraction, a testing ground, a front line of technology and a collider of ideas. As the test went on, different groups of people came to this school, and every arched building marked the periodic success of the test. The starting point is a laboratory established in a harsh environment, but the end of this speed curve is infinity.

This campus will not only represent the spirit of hyperloop, but also present to people a new vision of lifestyle. We envision the campus as a showcase for future modes of transportation. People can take the direct capsule train to each part of the building, especially the observation deck on top of Arch01 and the apartments distributed in rch . t defines the future transportation: from home to wherever you want to go without transfer. The latest technologies are applied in the building, including curved elevators, wastewater collection systems and wind power generation systems. This is to express the greatest respect from the future campus to Las Vegas-“Nothing is impossible.

05 Taipingxingguo Temple
In a straw cloak, spend my life in mist and rain.——Su Shi,Chinese poet and politiction in Song dynasty. Architecture History Research | Design Studio Team member: Hanyi Zhang, Jishan Duan Spring 2019
China's history is extensive and profound. As the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty, Kaifeng has left a wealth of historical and an exploration, the site of Taipingxingguo Temple, one of the important temples in the Song Dynasty in Kaifeng, was discovere Based on historical documents such as Official History, Japanese Monk Chengxun's Diaries, and Complete Works of Su Shi, studies, contemporary temple buildings and murals, this reasearch studio attempts to restore Taipingxingguo Temple, an imp and commercial node in the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty. As a dynasty dominated by commerce and literature, the one of the most commercially active places in the world. Although the Taipingxingguo Temple has a religious policy of silence flower market in its front yard and short-term rental apartments in the bathroom courtyard and the monk's houses. Taipingxingguo Temple is a large architectural complex built during the transition of Buddhism in China. In addition to the important Buddhist space on the central axis, the human space on the secondary axis is more valuable for research. The bathroom courtyard is an important social place, the ancient house is a gallery for collecting and displaying ancient paintings, and the monk's room is a short-term apartment for candidates.
When restoring the building , we restored the bathroom in strict accordance with the Song Yingzao Fashi, the first official treatise on architectural structure and craftsmanship, reproducing the indoor space and internal activities of the bathroom in the Song Dynasty. We also studied the baths and rest areas, and discovered the exquisite taste of life in the Song Dynasty. Su Shi also rented the second room on the east of the bathroom where he wrote various literary works.

In commenting Nikolai Leskov's article, Benjamin once said that the storyteller was a person whose wick of life was slowly burned by the soft candlelight of his stories. This is the foundation of the unparalleled breath surrounding the storyteller. I have always been interested in people and cities, constantly observing this familiar but strange world. There is no lack of eyes for observation and hands for drawing in various fields. They select the most amazing parts of complicated information and organize them into a complete chain, either consciously or subconsciously. Under their narration, the listener can put the body outside and the mind inside. There are many materials that can make up a story, which can be memories from individuals or groups, a person’s spirituality and experience, as well as history and ongoing events. These priceless fragments are all gems left over from the panning in the thoughts of river over and over again. I lack the power to be a storyteller in front of the stage, but I am willing to draw quietly what I know and what I feel on the storyboard. You, the readers' eyes will make them alive.
