ATHLETIC TRAINING

LESLIE DENT MA, LAT, ATC ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER Leslie Dent is in her first year as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Catawba College. In addition to her medical coverage for the men’s and women’s cross country teams, she also oversees coverage for the basketball, swimming, tennis and golf teams, which includes both home and away practice and game coverage. Dent received her Master of Arts, Exercise, Leisure and Sport with a concentration in athletic training from Kent State University this past May. While at Kent State, Dent worked with the football, softball and women’s basketball squads. Dent earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from East Carolina University in 2009. She worked with numerous sports at ECU, including football, softball, women’s basketball and women’s soccer. She has also helped staff regional basketball tournaments for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

John D. Coble Athletic Training Room

The John D Coble athletic training room is located on the bottom floor of the Abernathy physical education building and provides the medical care for 13 of Catawba’s 19 sports. Prior to 2002, when the Hayes Field House was completed, all athletic teams used this facility. Over the past 40 years, the athletic training room has been expanded and improved to its current size of 1325 square feet. Athletes receive injury prevention, assessment, management and rehabilitation here. There are 7 treatment tables and 3 taping tables available. The facility provides state-of-the art modality treatment, which includes ultrasound, electrical stimulation, diathermy and a hydrotherapy room for hot or cold whirlpools. In addition, a portion of the facility is equipped with rehabilitation equipment such as a stationary bike, elliptical, stair stepper, Biodex total body gym, physioballs and free weights. Also included are two athletic trainer offices and a private Doctors exam room.
