WASTE TRANSFER STATION manhattan: progettare il margine

The competition launched by the City of New York requires the design of a marine transfer station to replace the existing one in the East River, and the condition to be met, in addition to technological standards of waste storage station, are directed to the integration of this function with the urban context very present and alive in this part of waterfront. Particular attention has been paid to the inclusion of the building in the park system that stretches across the border: the walk along the river should not be hindered or interrupted, but rather enhanced at that point the most critical. Inside a mega reticular structure, like the bridges which marks the landscape around, I embed trhee boxes with three different function: a marine waste transfer, its learnig center and a separate gym. All these areas are linked each other and to outside with a system of ramps and elevated walkways, so the waterfront path continue within the building.

Post - Frontier wishes to investigate the condition of the southern borders of Europe, analysing part of the political, regulatory and territorial ambiguities that persist throughout its fields and that are particularly accentuated when they relate to the Mediterranean Sea. These places no longer only directly relate to a definite geographic limit, but have become physically manifest as data processing products, and can thus be delocalised, structuring themselves on ever weaker and diffuse forms of spatial organization.

The restoration of an ancient complex of different aged building,near Antwerp, used in the past to the seminar, involves the adaptation of some indoor and outdoor public spaces for the today’s feature of school. The project is the application of a shared portico that will encircle the entire courtyard used as play area for pupils, and the addition of small catalysts in that space, such a long table, a stage and small temple. Genève is the center of an expanding territory, thanks to the quality of life it offers incomparable, this metropolitan area generates an increasing number of jobs and attracts a population that goes. Les Vernéts, due to the displacement of the barracks of the firemen in another area will leave free a will leave a large free space close to the city center disponible for a new construction program, with priority assigned to housing (about 1,500 units) and accompanied by services and activities.

The construction of the station CEVAchampel is part of a much wider program: a tunnel that starts from the nearby France will connects five stations in strategic points for commuters who every day reach the city of Geneva. The design and building of five stations is under the supervision of Jean Nouvel atelier, while the planing of its public spaces related, announced through a competition led by the ville de Genève, shall be borne by winners studios. Honk Kong PASTA! proposal concept for a take-away pasta in Hong Kong (ongoing) Fanta Bureau, collaborazione con Francesca Pagliaro 2016
By a private request of Scriba office in Faenza, me and Arch. Francesca Pagliaro, developed a concept for a future franchaising of Italian pasta restaurants suitably for the Far East market. In a still hypotetical space we design all the forniture and layout to get a confortable mix between italian-oriental language. The desk is continuing in a table and covered by tail, the small table are in wood and modulated in a way that’s remind the rounded-section grid above the kitchen board. A large carved wooden panel on the wall shows the different shapes of pasta in all its best known forms: farfalle, spaghetti, macaroni etc .. A simple and domestic environment has to be the most important impact for a meal eaten in office hours, to guarantee the quality and the “italian taste comfort�, even in a short time.

Is a small place where a square combines a stair and a pavilion. This will not only cinema or cafè but will be a catalysts of functions, or just big objects to spend some ‘time off. The scale is too large and the bar is too small, it does not matter because the square is right. the importance of what happens in the middle is equivalent to the possibility to take refuge in defined places.

The Meadows site in Salford covers an area of around 7 hectares and forms the northern anchor of the Irwell River Park project. With 3 new bridges already constructed at MediaCityUK, Spinningfields and Greengate along the 8km stretch of IRP, Salford City Council is now seeking to design a new landmark pedestrian bridge linking The Crescent (A6) with The Meadows. Adjacent to the University of Salford, this new bridge will further unlock the vast development potential of this major corridor linking Salford and Manchester, where game changing projects such as Salford Central and Greengate are already underway.

OBSERVATORY CENTRE international museum of astronomy Acatama Desert (CL) competition 2014
San Pedro de Atacama is located at an altitude of 2,400 m, and receives around 40,000 visitors a year, many of them attracted by the quality of its sky. IMOA will be a focal point for international tourism interested in astronomical observation, where visitors will be able to enhance their knowledge and share experiences in an area free of light contamination, offering a unique setting to observe the stars.

Caterina Spadoni collaborated as intern architect in our office over six months, where she took part in three competitions: “Operations Les Vernets”, a masterplan for 1200 housing units in Genève, “Seminaar Hoogstraten”, an open call competition for the redevelopment of internal and external spaces of a former seminary, now primary and secondary school in Antwerp and Barhain’s pavilion competiton at Milan Expo 2015. In “Operations Le Vernets” she took part into the two competition’s steps, where she helped to develop the project firstly with 3d study models and then desining plans, sections and physical models. For the Hoogstraten competition her contribution included drawing plants as well as make the model and produce diagrams and other presentation material for the final booklet. In Barhain’s pavilion competiton she worked on the assembling of the representation model for photos, editing pictures and work over the final presentation booklet. In the meantime she also drew some working drawings for a pavilion under construction in La Spezia. During this time, Caterina has shown great interest and strong sense of responsibility at work, trying, with participation and critical thinking, to understand and learn from each daily experience in studio. She has closely followed the development process of each competition: from the site’s first analysis and the knowledge of its problems, to the project design, up to the graphic representation and explanatory methods to provide the selected solutions. Within the competition’s tight schedules she has worked with the team by providing her technical and professional skills. In these recent months I have had the chance to see Caterina in a passion and knowledge of contemporary and past architecture, of whom she speaks with critical remarks, looking for establish a constructive dialogue with other architects in the office. For all these reasons mentioned above and for the good relationship of trust grown during this period, I can finally recommend Caterina for each type of offices in which she wants to increase her work experience.
