The paintings for SeeSkySea are built up with multiple layers of paint, ink & pigment. Using conventional writing as a way of mark making. Along with asemic writing, a form of gestural, quasi-calligraphy. Allowing infinite meanings across all languages.
New Ways Through (NWT) is a book that was altered over a 12 month period. Painting over the pages whilst leaving words exposed, the ever changing tones, colours, textures & shapes of the Scottish sea & sky were Thecaptured.hundreds of painted pages were inspired by the meditative act of staring out at the sea & up to the sky, at different times of the day, week, month, season. These altered pages have become the direct reference for most of the paintings in the exhibition SeeSkySea. Including the series October SeaSkies - 28 circular, jewel like, acrylic & resin paintings. Many of the pages were painted whilst in Badininal, Wester Ross, with its view towards Gairloch. The constant changes were clearly observed from early morning until late evening, ranging from subtle to dramatic. Opposite are two of the October pages, captured less than an hour apart.
