Message from Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila January 30, 2016 Most Reverend Samuel J. Aquila, S.T.L. Archbishop of Denver
Pope Saint John Paul II accurately declared, “As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.” I am thankful that Catholic Charities is actively engaged in supporting the family on a daily basis through its women’s services, which extends the mercy and love of Christ to those experiencing hardship. During the past year, Catholic Charities has championed the rights of the unborn and offered guidance and support to thousands of expectant mothers and soon-to-be fathers through the Lighthouse Women’s Center and its nine regional Gabriel Houses. In addition, shelter has been provided to nearly 1.2 million people through the Archdiocesan Housing program, the Samaritan House, the Father Ed Judy House, the Guadalupe Community Center (Greeley), the Mission (Fort Collins), and Holy Rosary Women’s Shelter. Beyond housing, Regina Caeli Clinical Services has helped bring psychological and spiritual healing to hundreds of individuals and families through its professional counseling services. Catholic Charities has been actively engaged in bringing the mercy of God to those on what Pope Francis calls “the peripheries” – those who society often overlooks, but whom Christ loves with all his heart. May God bless you for becoming an ambassador of his mercy and love in this Jubilee Year of Mercy! Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Samuel J. Aquila, S.T.L. Archbishop of Denver

Dear Friends, Thank you for being a part of tonight’s Catholic Charities’ 5th Annual Beacon of Hope Gala to continue building a culture of life. That starts by offering a real choice to women with an unplanned pregnancy. One baby a week, on average, has been born to moms at Lighthouse Women’s Center. That number of precious lives is now 160. There are several dozen women, currently pregnant, whom we have counseled at Lighthouse and who still need our help. Recently, Real Choices, with centers in Lafayette, Boulder and CU Boulder, joined with Lighthouse to create a regional network of pregnancy resource centers. We show each woman a path to a life with her child. That may include mentoring, financial support, parenting classes and much more. The loving care may take place at Lighthouse or Real Choices locations, at one of nine Gabriel Project houses, at Father Ed Judy House, at Holy Rosary Center for Women at Samaritan House — or through Regina Caeli Clinical Services. In saving the life of the unborn, we must provide support for the mother with this life-affirming “continuum of care.” This unique approach helps mother and child become part of a family — and part of our community. Your support is greatly appreciated. God Bless,
