A year in review ... 2017 Thank you from Susan Jandzinski, Executive Director It is hard to believe that we are already one month into 2018. While planning is in full swing for 2018 in regards to our annual giving campaign and our two major special events, we can’t help but look back at 2017 and all the wonderful things that happened throughout the last year. We are so pleased with the opening of the John M. Repetski Healing Garden in May, our annual Golf/Wine Event in June and A Tribute to Angels Event in November. Grants were awarded to the Foundation for specific projects at Kenmore Mercy Hospital and there were a few very generous gifts that came in at the end of the year from the Kenmore Mercy medical staff, Auxiliary and the Robert Bille and Debra Gabri Bille Trust. We also bid a fond farewell to our longtime President & CEO and board member Jim Millard in 2017. We welcomed Walt Ludwig, former chief operating officer, into these roles at the start of 2018. Finally, thank you for your generous, thoughtful support of Kenmore Mercy Foundation and Kenmore Mercy Hospital. It is because of donors like you that we are able to support projects and programs along with purchase state of the art equipment to better serve our patients.

In 2010, Kenmore Mercy Foundation embarked on a major gifts campaign with a goal of raising $1,000,000 towards the construction of a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. At the conclusion of the campaign, $1,200,000 was raised. We opened the doors to the new Emergency Department on July 30, 2013. Currently more than 36,370 patients pass through the Emergency Department each year. As of the start of 2018, the balance on that promise is only $8,000 with the expectation of paying the balance by the middle of February.

Memorial Bricks Available for Healing Garden The John M. Repetski Healing Garden is a sanctuary that features a variety of flowers, herbs, and trees, each chosen for their calming effects.

Dedicated in May 2017, the healing garden benefits our patients, visitors, and associates while honoring the late John M. Repetski whose generous bequest to Kenmore Mercy Hospital made the garden possible. A tranquil path is constructed of 4” x 8” paving bricks and 8” x 8” stone blocks. You may wish to inscribe a block or a brick with your family name, the name of a loved one, or a cherished organization. The commemorative bricks and blocks in the John M. Repetski Healing Garden at Kenmore Mercy Hospital provide a unique, beautiful, lasting, and highly visible opportunity to honor or remember a loved one, or someone special for years to come. Foundation Awarded $14,500 in Grants Last year, Kenmore Mercy Foundation was fortunate to receive three grants to help offset the cost of two projects. The Anthony V. Mannino Foundation approved a grant for $4,000 to assist in the renovation of waiting rooms on both the 2 East and 3 East patient care units. It is the wish of the donor to create a space that “encourages the giving and receiving of essential emotional support and care to patients and their families.” Harris Beach, PLLC, also provided additional funding of $4,000 for the project. The project is slated to be complete in the Spring 2018. The Foundation was also fortunate to receive a grant from the Kenmore Rotary Foundation for $6,500. The donation will be used to upgrade and provide comfort amenities to the two lactation support rooms currently located on the third floor that are used by Kenmore Mercy Hospital associates and volunteers, and available to hospital patients and visitors if needed. With their support, we will create welcoming, comfortable spaces that promote the health of mother and baby by providing clean, private spaces to pump breast milk to feed their babies.

The Kenmore Mercy Foundation raised $20,000 to purchase 140 new nurse call bell/pillow speakers, which help ensure clear communication between patients and the nurse’s station and also aid in creating a quiet environment for our patients during their stay. This year’s Sister Mary Mechtilde Memorial Award honorees were hospital president & CEO James M. Millard, R.Ph., and David F. Pfalzer, MD.
