Guild history
Founded in 1941, The Guild was originally known as the St. Francis Cardiac Guild and St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center® was still a small sanatorium for cardiac care, providing treatment and respite for children suffering from rheumatic fever. Thirteen women from the Manhasset, Port Washington and Roslyn area organized as The Guild, vowing to assist the hospital in its work. Today, The Guild membership spans Long Island and the surrounding areas with over 500 members. Members are actively involved in hosting fundraising events and operating The Gift Shop located at St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center®. All proceeds from the Gift Shop are donated to St. Francis Hospital Foundation.
Fundraising goals
As a major fund-raising auxiliary for the hospital, The Guild has helped to finance projects including the development and growth of the Research Institute, the expansion of the Emergency Department, support for the Women's Center, an operating room in the Ambulatory Surgery Center and renovations of patient and visitor areas within the hospital. Most recently, The Guild has made a pledge to The President’s Fund to help critical areas in need.
Exciting calendar of events
Numerous fundraising events highlight The Guild's annual calendar. The year begins with an intimate Heart to Heart luncheon overlooking Manhasset Bay and featuring a physician guest speaker. We welcome spring at the annual Spring Luncheon with exciting entertainment or guest speakers. The summer brings an early evening wine cocktail party. The fall event is always changing. In the past, The Guild has enjoyed the horses at “A Day at the Races” at Belmont and has had numerous guest speakers and honorees. The Field of Honor was started to honor our veterans and service members with a beautiful flag display on the hospital’s front lawn. During the holiday season the Tree of Lights provides a way for people to recognize and celebrate those who are closest to their hearts. In early December, The Guild partners with Americana Manhasset as a recipient of its Champions for Charity® holiday shopping fundraiser.
