Smith, Jr., call on all of us to turn to St. Joseph, entrust ourselves, our children and families, our Church, and our world to our spiritual father’s loving care. WEAPONS OF MASS CONSTRUCTION

Over 55 years ago, Fr. Justin Garvey, C.P. wrote from the Philippines that he had gone there to renew the faith in many mission parishes. He tried many things, but remarked that outside of the Mass and the Sacraments the rosaries sent by our members did more to restore the faith of those people than anything else. Personal and family prayer returned to the villages, and with that came faith and the practice of the Sacraments.

Mission parish or not, bring your parish back to faith and practice of the Sacraments with the Rosary like Fr. Garvey.

Our Lady’s Rosary Makers’ continued mission since 1949 is to spread devotion to the Rosary and provide the means to do this through rosary making.

Hope and Handicrafts from the Land of Jesus’ Birth

The Holy Land Handicraft Cooperative Society

Holy Land Handicraft Cooperative Society (HLHCS) was founded in 1981, and represents 35 workshops specializing largely in olivewood and mother-of-pearl. Many of these artisans are located in Bethlehem, where Jesus was born. As a World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) member, they sell products mainly through Fair Trade channels to customers all over the world. In addition to export sales and partnerships with distributors, they also sell products to tourists and pilgrims through a local Holy Land souvenir shop.

Making a difference in how business is done

Fair Trade principles represent the cornerstone of the Cooperative’s philosophy and values. Fair Trade principles mandate that all artisans and producers are treated fairly, regardless of religion, race, or gender. For HLHCS, primarily, this signifies not favoring a particular workshop or its products simply because the artisans are Christian or Muslim. Working together to advertise, produce, and sell products helps them overcome endemic discrimination of this kind.

Fair Trade also emphasizes the role of women within the workforce. In more tra ditional communities, women’s roles are typically focused in the domestic sphere, but economic pressures have created the need for more women to work in full participation with family businesses and beyond. Fair Trade ensures that their work is equally valid, respected, and fairly compensated.

One of the workshops that partners with the Cooperative focuses on training local special needs or handicapped people, who would not otherwise have opportuni ties for work, let alone for their personal artistic development, to make beautiful greeting cards and more. Unfortunately, sometimes people view the handicapped as a burden rather than as full and potentially productive members of society. Fair Trade encourages everyone to look beyond anyone’s limitations.

Making a difference in people’s lives

Holy Land Handicraft Cooperative Society aims to preserve the olivewood crafts manship traditions of the area - for the benefit of future generations. They strive to alleviate local poverty and unemployment, and allow generations of families to flourish, while still living in the land of their grandparents.

Approximately 2,000 individuals benefit from the Cooperative’s activities. In addition to marketing handicrafts produced by the members, they also sell prod ucts produced by select non-member artisans, such as ceramics, glass, embroidery from many local women’s groups - or individual women - that include: olive soap, stationary made from recycled paper, candles, and recycled glass, and more.

The pandemic lockdowns that began March 5, 2020, caused terrible consequenc es for the region, where tourism is a significant part of the economy. 85% of the economy depends on tourism, and often, access continues to be blocked or limited for tourists. The Covid-19 outbreak has pushed the local economy in the Holy Land to the breaking point. International consumers purchasing HLHCS products through their website or other distributors, can make a profound difference in people’s lives.

21:20 23 Peter will ultimately make the supreme sacrifice, but what will become of the beloved disciple of whom the fourth Gospel often speaks (Jn 13:23; 19:26 27; 20:2 10; see Jn 1:35 39; 18:15)? The first Christian generations still believed in the imminent return of Christ in glory (2 Thes 2), although they had not begun to experience the time of the Church We no longer have the same preoccupation However, the response made by Jesus still holds: what is important is to follow Christ faithfully 21:24-25

The faith of believers is a grace, but it goes back in history to those who were witnesses: those who saw the deeds and understood their meaning Nonetheless, the life of Jesus goes beyond everything that can be written or said about him, even in a Gospel Opening or closing the sacred writing, we are brought back to the encounter with Christ himself.

concert with the Directory for Catechesis, this series adheres to the presentation of the Catholic Faith—as expressed in the Catechism of the Catholic Church—as a touchpoint for teaching while emphasizing Scripture and being mindful of papal writings, such as Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (EG). Handing On the Faith

“In catechesis ‘Christ, the Incarnate Word and Son of God, . . . is taught— everything else is taught with reference to him—and it is Christ alone who teaches— anyone else teaches to the extent that he is Christ’s spokesman, enabling Christ to teach with his lips. . . . Every catechist should be able to apply to himself the mysterious words of Jesus: “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me” ’ ” (CCC, no. 427).

“Whoever is called ‘to teach Christ’ must first seek ‘the surpassing worth of know ing Christ Jesus’; he must suffer ‘the loss of all things. . .’ in order to ‘gain Christ and be found in him,’ and ‘to know him and the power of his resurrection, and [to] share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that if possible [he] may attain the resurrection from the dead’ ” (CCC, no. 428).

“From this loving knowledge of Christ springs the desire to proclaim him, to ‘evangelize,’ and to lead others to the ‘yes’ of faith in Jesus Christ. But at the same time the need to know this faith bet ter makes itself felt” (CCC, no. 429).

T he Christopher s “It’s better to light one candle than to curse the darkness” www.christophers.org mail@christophers.org 212-759-4050 ext. 241 Lord, may my heart overflow with compassion, so I might emulate the sacrificial love You showed for all people in Your hour of suffering. May those I encounter come to know You through the love I show to them in word and deed. Grant me a heart of understanding so that I might not judge others, but rather walk with them on the path You are guiding them along. And may I always strive to be an example of patience and forbearance, Prayer for Compassion “Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” —2 Corinthians 9:7 SCRIPTURE SPEAKS CLEARLY ABOUT GIVING—and the way we ought to give: generously, completely, quietly, and with love, even when it is most difficult. Giving is at the core of human relationships and enriches the human experience. When it involves the gift of self, it brings joy to the recipient and giver alike. “LIFT UP YOUR HEARTS. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.” Those words from the Mass reflect Jesus’ teaching that we can choose joy in our lives by lifting up our hearts to the God of love who created us. He asks us to purge ourselves of negative emotions which only serve to rob us of happiness. That doesn’t mean we won’t have crosses to bear, but it does mean that true joy can be found, even in the most difficult of circumstances646 Christopher News Notes
Open my heart to Your joy, O Lord. Guide me towards all things that lead to true and lasting happiness. May I rejoice in the laughter and merriment that are the fruit of good humor and fair play, and that strengthen the bonds of love and community, which create a joyful heart. Help me to foster the virtues of mercy, patience, and selfcontrol, so that I might be an instrument through which those I encounter are showered with the blessings of a joyful way of life. And may I give witness, in times of both ease and suffering, to the constant Resurrection of spirit in Christ. Amen.
