PARKING/TRANSPORTATION We encourage SRC patrons to make their trip to the facility as part of their workout by walking, jogging or biking to the SRC. Campus shuttles are also available. The Speck Parking garage and West Campus purple commuter lots are the best parking options. To park on campus, you must have a valid Texas State parking permit displayed on your vehicle. The Permit can be obtained through Parking Services. For information regarding parking permits contact the Parking Services office at 512.245.2887.

program operates the drop-in use of the Student Recreation Center (SRC). The SRC offers six racquetball courts, a 15,000 sq. ft. weight room, top-of-the-line cardiovascular machines, eight basketball and volleyball courts, two indoor soccer courts, indoor elevated track, four multipurpose rooms, locker rooms and a snack bar operated by Chartwells. The SRC also includes two pools in the Natatorium, a boxing room, and the RockWall Climbing Center. Feel free to catch up on homework or check your e-mail at the Snack Bar & Lounge Area.

Otherwise, there is a $6 entry fee. Students not enrolled in a summer session are required to purchase a membership to access the facilities. Membership rates are listed below.

OUTDOOR RECREATION

GOAL PROGRAM Group Oriented Achievement & Learning (GOAL) offers initiatives and activities that are socially, mentally, and physically challenging. Activities are designed to strengthen group communication, team building, bonding, interpersonal relationships, individual self–awareness and confidence. GOAL is primarily operated at the Challenge Course in Wimberley, Texas. Sign your group up today by making a reservation with the Outdoor Center at 512.245.8552.

ADVENTURE TRIP PROGRAM MOONLIGHT PADDLE As the moon lights our way, we’ll take a leisurely float on rafts and kayaks from Sewell Park to Thompson’s Island, running the rapids at Rio Vista on the way. A great way to experience your first taste of whitewater paddling. TRIP DATES June 9 & July 8 | 7 p.m. –10 p.m. COST: Students $7 Faculty/Staff/Public $10    BAT FLIGHT FLOAT Canoe off into the sunset on Lady Bird Lake with the Adventure Trip Program. Each night, at dusk, 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats take flight from under the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin in search of a meal. From the unique vantage point of a canoe, you will witness this truly amazing event. Transportation, instruction and equipment included. CUSTOM TRIPS The Adventure Trip Program of Outdoor Recreation offers custom trips for your group. Taking a trip with a team of people is a great way to strengthen bonds between participants and a fun way to leave behind the stresses of school and work. Guides, equipment and transportation are all provided at a reasonable price. Custom trips are perfect for student organizations, fraternity and sorority organizations, and faculty retreats. Contact the Outdoor Center today to set up a trip for your organization’s next group function. WHITEWATER KAYAK INSTRUCTION Have you always wanted to try some whitewater paddling, but didn’t know where to start? Then come get some personal instruction from our ATP staff. We can provide a two-day instruction series, covering everything from the ground up.

UNIVERSITY CAMP University Camp is located just east of Wimberley, Texas, covering 126 acres alongside the Blanco River. The area features a clear–water rock bottom river with a natural waterfall, popular for swimming, wading, snorkeling and fishing. Additionally, there is a three–mile trail system that winds through the property and provides many scenic views perfect for hiking and mountain biking. A softball field with a backstop and a grass volleyball court are also available. CLIMBING CLINICS Join up with one of our staff members for personal lessons and instructions on climbing. We can accommodate individuals or groups looking to advance their knowledge and skills in rock climbing. SPECIAL EVENTS & GROUP ACCESS Do you have a special event that would benefit from a few hours of climbing and fun? Groups can reserve access to the RockWall and receive instruction from our

experienced staff. Perfect for birthday parties, group functions or for just plain fun. Call the Outdoor Center to make your group reservation.

ROCKWALL CLIMBING CENTER The RockWall is open to all Student Recreation Center members. We provide all the gear you need—all you need to bring is yourself. Our RockWall is open to all experience levels, so even if you have never climbed before, make plans to stop by and check us out. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will show you all you need to know to make your first ascent.

AQUATICS & SAFETY Whether you want to get in shape, learn how to swim, or learn how to save a life, we have a program for you.

AQUA SPORTS CENTER The Aqua Sports Center is located in central campus next door to the Hines Academic Center. The 25 - yard pool provides users the opportunity for lap and informal swimming. The ASC will be shut down from May 1 through July 13 2009 for re-plastering.

SRC NATATORIUM: The Student Recreation Center's Natatorium features two pools; one is a lap lane pool, and the second is a leisure pool. The lap lane pool features six lanes that are 25 yards in length, and a depth ranging from four feet to nine feet. The leisure pool features the following: • Water volleyball • Water basketball • Two additional lap lanes that are 15 yards in length • Underwater benches for lounging with various jets • A teaching area

GENERAL POLICIES • No swimming without a lifeguard on duty. • No clothing is allowed in the pool unless made of swimsuit material. • Shower before entering the pool area. • No person with sores, open wounds, or other evidence of skin disease is permitted to use the pool. • No running, pushing, throwing, or dunking of other swimmers. • Spitting, spouting of water, profanity, roughness, and rowdiness will not be permitted in the pool. • Flips, back dives, or backward jumps are not permitted. • No hanging or pulling on lane ropes, backstroke flags, basketball goal or volleyball nets. • Smoking is not permitted in the facility. • Closed top water bottles (water only) are permitted. • No food or glass. • Youth 12 and under must be supervised by a responsible adult over the age of 18. • Swim diapers required for children not potty trained. • If a child cannot swim, a responsible adult over the age of 18 must be within one arm's length from the child at all times. • Swimming proficient children may use lap lanes and equipment for lap swimming only. • Return all items to proper storage location. • Starting blocks may be used only under supervision of lifeguard. • Additional rules may be implemented by the Aquatics and Safety staff for the health and safety of the patrons. • Polices and rules are to maximize participants and staff safety.

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS Why sign my child up? According to the American Red Cross the best thing anyone can do to stay safe in, on, and around the water is to learn to swim. This is why it is so important that every child learn to swim and become more comfortable in the water. Our classes increase students' aquatic abilities and show them how to stay safe in and around the water. ELIGIBILITY Dependents of the following groups are eligible to sign up for swim lessons: • Faculty, staff, alumni and students with a valid ID • Student Recreation Center members • Child Development Center members

ONE-ON-ONE SWIM LESSONS Want swim lessons that cater to your needs and wants? Then sign up for a one-on-one swim lesson. Whether you want to improve on your strokes, gain endurance, or learn how to swim for the first time, we've got the right swim instructor for you. You will receive one-on-one instruction, and you can work with your instructor to schedule sessions at times that fit your busy life. Take the lessons with a friend of similar swimming abilities, and it's only $15 added to the total price.

HOW TO SIGN UP Official registration is completed at the front desk of the SRC ONLY. No money can be taken online or over the phone at this time. Payment is required at the time of sign up. Classes may be added, dropped or combined depending on the number of students who sign up for each class.

WEIGHT ROOM Our knowledgeable weight room staff is available to assist patrons with equipment use and set up. Staff can also provide spotting assistance and answer basic fitness questions. All patrons are required to have a towel in the weight room and cardio area. Towels are provided free of charge and are available at the front desk of the Student Recreation Center.

PERSONAL TRAINING Need a little extra motivation? Let one of our certified personal trainers design a comprehensive program to meet your individual goals. Our personal trainers can teach you how to correctly perform resistance training and cardiovascular exercises while keeping you motivated. INITIAL TRAINING PACKAGE This package includes a full body fitness assessment and two additional personal training sessions. The fitness assessment evaluates the following areas of physical fitness: cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength and flexibility. Body composition and girth measurements are also included. COST: Initial Training Package $45; Additional appointments start at $15 per session.

PAIRS TRAINING Workout with a friend and get a discount on personal training. Both of you will work simultaneously with your trainer to reach your individual goals. COST: Initial Training Package $35; Additional appointments start at $12 per session. GROUP EXERCISE Register for classes at the SRC front desk. Payments must be made prior to attending the class. No refunds or exchanges will be accepted. Classes are held in Multipurpose Rooms A-D and the leisure pool in the natatorium. YOGA FOR BEGINNERS This class is designed for participants with a limited knowledge of yoga, but who desire to learn more about proper alignment, breathing, and relaxation techniques in practicing Hatha Yoga. TEXAS STATE GOLF COURSE The Texas State Golf Course is a unique and challenging nine–hole layout where four of the nine tee shots cross the San Marcos River. The course is open to students, faculty, staff and the community seven days a week. The Pro Shop provides club and cart rentals along with merchandise. Pick Your Day to Golf. 2 for 1 Wednesdays: Two students with TXST ID play for the price of one, only $3 each. Texas Two Man Scramble: 2 Person 9 Hole Tournament starting at 5:30 p.m. for a $5 entry fee plus green fee. Fabulous Friday: Faculty and staff with a TXST ID can golf for $6. Students, faculty and staff must bring a TXST ID for a reduced rate.

INTRAMURAL SPORTS The Intramural Sports program offers structured leagues and tournaments that give students, faculty and staff opportunities to participate in individual, dual and team competitions. Most events and activities include men’s, women’s and co–ed divisions, as well as various skill levels. The Intramural Sports program can also help individuals find teams in which to unite.

SPORT CLUBS A Sport Club is a registered student organization assisted by the Campus Recreation Department, formed by individuals motivated by a common interest and desire to participate in a specific sport activity. The club exists to promote and develop skills, engage in competition, encourage peer leadership, and enjoy the recreational and social fellowship of a specific sport. Generally, clubs are open to all individuals interested in a sport from novice to extremely skilled.
