SATURDAY, JANUARY 12, 2013 Held in conjunction with
National Western Stock Show • Denver, Colorado
BULLS in the
Ballroom
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity has been initiated by Gelbvieh breeders and supporters to increase participation in the National Gelbvieh Show, the National Gelbvieh Sale, the National Gelbvieh Convention and to identify the most useful young sires in the Gelbvieh breed. The sponsor of the annual Futurity will be the Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity, Inc., a non-profit organization, not associated with the American Gelbvieh Association. The Futurity winners will be selected by scored balloting of the participating breeders members. Ballots must have a different bull in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions. Ballots must include all three positions. The consignor of the Futurity winner shall receive approximately 80% of the net Futurity funds. Two runners-up will be identified to receive approximately 10% respectively. The Futurity winner will be sold as Lot 1 in the National Gelbvieh Sale. The net sale proceeds of the winning bull will be given to one breeder member who will be selected by a random drawing. Each Futurity breeder member will receive 20 (twenty) units of semen from the winning bull. The initial voting will be held at the National Western Stadium Arena on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10:00 am. The top 3 vote winning bulls will be honored Saturday night January 12, 2013 at 6:30 pm in the Red Lion Hotel with “Bulls in the Ballroom VIII” Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity. The Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity winner and runners-up will be announced at “Bulls in the Ballroom”. The general public is welcome. The 2013 Futurity is limited to 55 breeder memberships. The 55th breeder membership will be sold at public auction before the drawing for the sale proceeds in the ballroom.

RWG YAEGER 1513 offers a great genetic combination of fresh genetics and proven maternal power. Yaeger’s dam, VG 90H, at nearly 15 years old, is the foundation female in the Good Night cow family (known for their fertility, longevity, structural soundness, and great udders balanced with the consistent ability to produce top quality seed stock). Yaeger has a lot of pedigree links to our high sellers, show winners, and herd sires. Our herd sire RWG Xtreme Traction 0521 (who will be on display at NWSS) is a VG 90H grandson. Also RWG Why-Me 9515’s dam VG 34N ET is a full sister to VG 90H. RWG Why-Me 9515 has quickly left his mark on the breed as he was the sire of the high selling female at the 2012 Canadian National Sale at $9000. Yaeger’s sire Wizard has also turned heads in the purebred world with his first calf crop. A Wizard son sold for a record breaking $30,000.00 at the 2012 Canadian National Sale making him the highest selling Canadian Gelbvieh bull. With a solid pedigree, a flawless dam, lots of growth posting a 205 index of 122 and 365 index of 109, Yaeger is the kind of bull a program can be built around. There’s no question that fertility and longevity are more profitable than any other trait in the beef industry. This is why we always find ourselves going back to sires that left behind the best set of producing daughters. Here’s your opportunity to select on of those great maternal sires.

Our bull in this year’s Futurity, LWHF JKGF PREMIUM PLUS 482Y is a true herd sire prospect that can lead and improve the future of the Gelbvieh Breed for years to come. He is super heavy muscled with smooth balanced patterns, extremely deep bodied, big wide topped, huge rear quarter that ties power and performance into a very eye appealing homozygous polled and double black package, from the ground up he is very complete. His sire Granite 200P2 is our senior herd sire and the #1 purebred Gelbvieh bull for registrations this year. His dam we own jointly with J&K Gelbvieh and is a Dam of Merit, she has a perfect udder and phenomenal phenotype. His full brother was our Futurity entry last year that we sold to Doug and Carol Hille at Chimney Butte Ranch in Mandan, ND as their new junior herd sire. We look forward to seeing you in Denver and would appreciate your consideration in the futurity selection.

Post Rock Perfection ET is the result of proven genetics on both sides of his pedigree. His dam Darci 401P, 1st calf was the 2007 Futurity champion RTRT Solution who’s proven to be one of the best breeding Futurity winners highlighted by his daughter Whitney that was National Champion in 2011. Darci is also the dam of the 2010 Reserve NWSS champion female and many high selling lots in the Rae Family dispersal. Perfections sire is Post Rock Silver who’s a performance and muscle king in the Gelbvieh breed. Silver’s first sons have been some of the most sought after and high selling bulls in the fall sale season this year. Perfection captures all the performance and muscle of his sire with the extra eye appeal and class of his dam in a truly exciting package that we plan to use heavily in our program his year and for years to come.

Our entry to this years Breeders Choice Bull Futurity is an outcross calving ease son of the Davidson Johnboy 134U that resides at Rafter R Gelbvieh. Notice the actual birthweight of 66# with an adjusted weaning of 680#. His dam was our pick of the bred heifers at the Thousand Oaks dispersal. She is sired by JRI Polled Endicott 285F7 that sired very few calves before his untimely death, we all know what the 285 cow family has done in the Judd Ranch program. She has been an outstanding producing female. A full sister to our entry sold in the Iowa Beef Expo to the Morgan herd in Wisconsin.

Structural correctness, efficiency, and maternal excellence combine to impart functional characteristics that should be appreciated by astute cattlemen from any environment. RTRT Flat Iron 305Z presents unmistakable muscle mass and dimension; however, study the flexibility with which he travels and you will realize he is truly unique. His maternal pedigree is anchored by one of the highest performing, and most prolific females in the Gelbvieh breed - Foxi Roxi 8N, who has 80 recorded calves in the AGA database. His sire is arguably one of the best red purebreds in the breed, who consistently stamps his progeny with structural correctness, mass and rib shape - while moderating frame. RTRT Flat Iron 305Z’s moderate milk EPD should complement many Balancer females sired by higher-milk Angus bulls that are in wide use. Consequently, Flat Iron’s progeny should be acceptable in many environments with regards to milk production. In a breed looking for the next great purebred sire, Flat Iron offers the completeness of design necessary to serve as a cornerstone within Gelbvieh pedigrees for years to come.

Every Gelbvieh Breeder in America is looking for their next Purebred herdsire and TAU Resolution 65z is certainly one that will point the breed in the right direction. For the second year in a row we are proud to present you with a bull from one of the best cow families at Taubenheim Gelbvieh. Ms Sleepy 920J’s progeny have been turning heads for many years and the mating of her with a previous Breeders Choice Bull Futurity Champion is no slouch. Resolution is a Homozygous Black, Homozygous Polled son of RTRT Solution. 65z combines width and dimension into a sound structured package. He is powerfully constructed as he is wide topped and beefy hipped. When you get behind him he doesn’t disappoint either, as he’s wide at his pins and carries this advantage to the ground. However, where Resolution is bound to impress is in his structural integrity. He is one that is correct in his angles and easily fills his track when set in motion. We feel that Resolution 65z offers a ton of future to any Gelbvieh herd and his longevity should be evident for years to come. Start the New Year off right by making a Resolution to improve your herd by selecting this young herd sire on your 2013 Gelbvieh Bull Futurity Ballot. The last red bull Eagle Pass Ranch put in the futurity was EGL Fosters L017. It takes a pretty good red bull to get us excited, but we have a red bull this year that has done just that. EGL Boone Z027 ET is a good structured, deep sided, muscular bull that has the potential to be a great one. To top that off, he has no Freedom in his pedigree. He gained 3.71 lbs/day on test (106 ratio) and finished about mid range on our RFI trial. You need to consider that because of our selection pressure, mid range on our trial places him in the top 15% of the Gelbvieh breed for RFI. His sire is the widely used and former National Champion Extra Exposure and his dam is a beautiful red donor that goes back to Guido and EGL Cadee J029. Cadee is the top Gelbvieh animal on several major data bases for negative RFI and low DMI. These genetics are inherited by our Boone bull and will also carry through to his offspring. His homo polled test is pending.

Overdrive could be simply defined as using the appropriate gear to efficiently arrive at your destination in the most economical manner. CIRS Overdrive is capable of impacting the Gelbvieh breed with proven genetics, to advance any program in an efficient and most economical manner. CIRS Overdrive has often been compared to his sire, CIRS Decade, the 2010 Breeders Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity Champion. In fact, CIRS Overdrive may be better than his sire. Phenotypically, CIRS Overdrive has always been a standout among his contemporaries since birth. His explosive rib shape and excellent feet, legs, and overall structure, have kept him at the top to this day. The genetic data also show how efficient CIRS Overdrive and his progeny will be a great combination of feed efficiency with a most desirable end result - tenderness and marbling. Combined with the docility trait indicator, you’ll have an animal that will be calm, and therefore, will tend to eat more, have better response to vaccinations and pre-conditioning, and in the end, be more tender! Greater quality grade with less input cost = efficiency! Check out CIRS Overdrive’s Reproductive traits as well - calving ease and stayabillity. His heifer daughters will more likely become pregnant over a normal breeding season. You will enjoy the benefit of unassisted calving, and those easy-calving females will remain in your herd, in production, until they are at least 6 years old! Less labor costs in calving, less input costs before calving and a longer lived asset = efficiency! Powerful, yet efficient, purebred RED Gelbvieh genetics have consistenly been the focus at Circle S Ranch. You will reap the benefits when you choose CIRS Overdrive as the 2013 Breeders Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity Champion. Thank you for your consideration and confidence in the Circle S program.

We are proud to present PHG Rockin the Bakken Z17 as our red nomination in this years bull futurity. Rockin is one of those calves that has been special since birth, and he continues to get better as he matures. This dark cherry red, homozygous polled bull is going to be an outcross to many of today’s Gelbvieh and Balancer programs. We purchased his sire COLB Mr Xavier from Colin Berkley in 2011, and the Xavier calves have proven to be standout’s in our program. His dam has earned herself a spot in the donor pen, with her first calf being a top selling open heifer at the 2010 Canadian National Sale, and her second being a top seller at last years ND Golden Rule Sale. The Fighting Irish daughters are proving to be maternal stand-outs, and his dam is no exception. Rockin the Bakken exhibits a tremendous amount of length, depth, and width in a mature, rugged package. Study his EPD and Igenity profiles and you’ll see a bull that stands out amongst the crowd. Z17 truly is Rockin the Bakken - being named Supreme Overall Breeds bull at the 2012 West River Livestock show, the largest Gelbvieh show in ND, and standing 2nd in class to the Reserve Champion bull at the Canadian National Show at Agribition in November. Study him closely and we think you’ll agree, PHG Rockin The Bakken Z17 is a diamond in the rough!

JRI Pop A Top 307Z80 stems from the super Judd Ranch 307 cow family that excels in the low birth weight/calving ease department. JRI Pop A Top 307Z80’s third calf dam JRI Ms Baby Cakes 307U70 has only averaged 75 pounds at birth on her 3 calves. Maternal grandam JRI Ms Pd New Babe 307H60 only averaged 76 pounds at birth (80# high) on her calves. JRI Pop A Top 307Z80 should be a calving ease deluxe sire with his cow families incredible low birth weight track record and his sire, JRI Pop A Top 197T83 is one of the all-time great calving ease sires at Judd Ranch. Rest assured the performance and fertility is bred in as the first JRI Pop A Top 197T83 daughters calved this past spring and they are calf raising machines/fertility plus females. Homozygous polled purebred calving ease deluxe genetics!

DVE Davidson Jackpot 74Z stood alongside his fabulous Dam, as she was selected Reserve Senior Champion Female at the 2012 Farmfair International in Edmonton, Alberta. This dam does produce the good ones... a maternal brother was crowned Grand Champion Bull at the 2011 N.I.L.E. in Billings, Montana. Homozygous black & homozygous polled Jackpot 74Z had a birth weight of 82 lbs and an adjusted weaning weight of 888 lbs. He is sired by a new herd sire, DDGR Navaho 188X, at Davidson Gelbvieh, that is really complementing their program. They sold a great Navaho daughter for $7500 at 9 months of age at the November/2012 Canadian Western Agribition Sale in Regina, Saskatchewan. Another Navaho sired heifer calf was selected by Prairie Hill Gelbvieh of North Dakota for $5000 earlier this fall. Jackpot 74Z’s novel pedigree and sound attributes will provide an exciting catalyst for many programs!

JDPD Hesston is a cool little dude. Yes, he is very young, but good is good regardless of age. Phenotypically he has all the right pieces. He is very sound, bid footed with lots of bone. He is extremely long sided and super square hipped. He is packed with the right shape of muscle, really smooth and carries it down low into his quarter. He’s big topped with expressive shape. Hesston is really sexy fronted and carries himself with authority. He travels really soft with lots of set to his pasterns and covers his tracks really well. On paper he is just as impressive. His actual birth weight was only 76# and weaning weight of 645. His dam is a first calf heifer that goes back to Ruby Red, one of our matriarch’s. She did a fantastic job of raising this calf. Hesston has good maternal traits in his pedigree and his females should carry that on impressively. His sire, JDPD Akin, was the 2010 National Champion bull, and was syndicated for well over $25,000. Very few Akin progeny has been available to the public. Hesston will make big ugly cows pretty and keep power in the money makers. Please consider him for your bull of choice.

We are proud to present PHG Missouri Basin Z59 as our black nomination in this years bull futurity. Out of the most predictable cow in our program, and one of the most exciting sires to debut in the breed this year, Missouri Basin has the potential to do great things. His dam is literally a no-miss cow. 153R is the mother of Top Shelf & Womanizer, who have sired sale topping calves for our program. We moved her to the donor pen in May and she has consistently been freezing 25 eggs per flush. RWG Why Me 9515 is a bull who has garnered plenty of attention in the last year. The “Why Me” calves are easily the stoutest calves we have this year, and they keep getting better every day. A “Why Me” daughter was the high selling female at the 40th Anniversary Canadian National Sale in November for $9,000. We lost “Why Me” to an injury this summer, so this may be the only chance to obtain these genetics. We truly believe that Missouri Basin has the potential to do great things. Study his pedigree and you’ll notice that he’s an outcross to a majority of today’s popular bloodlines. Look at his EPD’s and you’ll see that he has the potential to be a curve bender. With an 83lb birthweight, and an 868lb weaning weight, he has a tremendous spread while still having the potential to be used on heifers. If you’re looking for that black outcross bull that could do it all, pay close attention to PHG Missouri Basin Z59!

Big hipped, deep bodied and wide topped will be your first impression when you look at 725Z. A total black outcross to any of today’s bulls, he has all the tools to be the next big name. 725Z is out of a never miss cow who raises powerhouse bulls and a proven herdsire, Roy, who has sired many great ones. We have been using Roy for almost eight years with few heifers leaving our herd. Roy’s consistency never misses the mark as seen in this full brother to last year’s NWSS Spring Division Reserve Bull Calf. Maternal, growth and carcass; you name it 725Z has got it. 725Z has been catching eyes since day one. With his striking profile, structural soundness and massive dimension, he will be catching your eye too! 725Z is homozygous polled and black to boot! We appreciate your consideration in the futurity selection.
