POST ROCK CATTLE COMPANY Dear Fellow Cattle Producers: Welcome to this year’s edition of the “Cowman’s Kind” bull and female sale. Top genetics and top management practices are being rewarded today more than ever. The benefits of heterosis and increased pay weights from cross breeding are again being realized by producers. With the herd expansion that’s soon going to take place, what better time to add or increase the use of Gelbvieh and Balancer genetics to your herd. The Meat Animal Research Center documents the Gelbvieh cow as the most efficient cow in the industry from a pounds of weaned calf per cow exposed and the most economical cow size stand point. Thus it stands to reason that commercial producers with Gelbvieh influenced females will benefit like never before and have the most sought after replacement females in the industry. This year’s sale offering is really strong. The cows selling truly represent over 25 years of relentless culling and selection pressure. The bulls are a tremendous group, and are loaded from top to bottom in both the Purebred and Balancer group. There are several new sire groups to choose from this year and some of our most proven genetics sell in volume sire groups. Nearly 600 cows and many AI and ET matings are involved in producing the bulls selling and they reflect that level of culling and commitment. You’ll notice many ET produced bulls. We have chosen this route to increase our bull numbers slightly rather than lower our standards at the other end. We are proud of each and every bull selling, and all are expected to have a positive impact on their new owners’ program. We’re proud of our commitment to customer service and guarantees that have been in place for many years. As in the past, we offer a first breeding season guarantee, breeding soundness exams, homozygous black, homozygous polled, sight-unseen purchase guarantees, as well as free bull care of free delivery. We’re willing to assist Post Rock customers utilizing the American Gelbvieh Association commercial marketing program with replacement female lists, the Gelbvieh feeding fax, the Gelbvieh alliance and the new Smart Tag program. We’re charter members of the Gelbvieh Profit Partners and would be privileged to contact them about bidding on your Gelbvieh and Balancer sired calf crop. if there is anything we can do to help increase your profitability, lets us know, as our survival in the seed stock business is based on your profitability and patronage. As in the past, we have bulls from our cooperator herds: Meadowlark Gelbvieh, Dawson Creek Gelbvieh, Biggs Brothers, Twin Oak Gelbvieh, and Stucky Gelbvieh. The addition of cooperative herds has allowed us to increase selection pressure placed on bulls as well as offer more bulls. We share in the income from these bulls, and they are represented and guaranteed just like our bulls. TERMS & CONDITIONS Terms

The terms of the sale are cash. Animals are to be paid for during or immediately following the sale. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. We have made every effort to provide as complete and accurate information as possible. However, announcements from the auction stand will take precedence over information printed in the catalog.

BULL Free Delivery or Free Care Until May 1

You may select your choice of the following delivery options for your bull purchases: •

Option 1-Haul your bull sale day and we will deduct $75 per bull. We will assist you in loading out immediately following the sale.

•

Option 2-We will care for your bulls free of charge but at the purchaser’s risk and you pick them up any time prior to May 1. Bulls remaining at Post Rock after May 1 will be charged $2.50 per head per day.

•

Option 3-We will deliver bulls free of charge up to 300 miles with additional miles prorated per head and that cost will not exceed $250 per lot. Purchases totaling $20,000 or more will be delivered free of charge to an individual ranch or to a central location within your state on group purchases. For animals that we deliver you are encouraged purchase individual animal insurance that will be available sale day at the rate of 4% of the purchase price for 6 months coverage. Other rates apply for longer or shorter insured periods. Inquire at the clerks table.

Bidding

Any disputes or challenges regarding bids shall be settled by the auctioneer, and his decision shall be final. Mail or telephone bids will be handled with strictest of confidence.

Semen Check & Guarantee

Each bull is guaranteed to settle healthy, fertile females and has been semen tested. Should any bull be claimed a non-breeder, the recommendation of the American Gelbvieh Association will apply. However, this does not preclude us from making adjustments that are mutually beneficial to both parties.

First Breeding Season Guarantee

Registration Certificates

•

If any bull purchased in the Cowman’s Kind Sale or privately from Post Rock dies or is disabled during the first 90 days following first turn out of a young bull, the following guarantee will apply.

•

If your young bull is temporarily unable to complete the breeding season, if possible, Post Rock will provide you with a loaner bull without cost to you other than transportation of the bull from and back to Post Rock.

Sight Unseen Purchases

•

If your bull becomes permanently disabled, Post Rock will allow full credit ($3500 Maximum) toward the purchase of one bull in the next Post Rock sale. Post Rock will receive the salvage value of the injured bull. Should the bull you purchase cost more than your credit you pay the difference. If he costs less, no further credit is due you.

•

The above warranty is for bulls used in a single sire breeding pasture. If two or more bulls are used in a breeding pasture the warrant is reduced to 50% of the initial purchase cost.

•

If your bull dies within the first 90 days Post Rock will credit you with 50% of the purchase price and provide a loaner bull if available at no cost.

•

If you have a problem, please notify us as soon as possible since we try to keep a few bulls available in case your new Post Rock bull is disabled during the first breeding season.

Liability

All persons attending the Cowman’s Kind Sale do so at their own risk. The sale sponsors, sale manager and/or any other seller assumes no liability for accidents, theft or damages done during this even on site of Post Rock Cattle Company.

Registration certificates will be transferred on all sale lots at the seller’s expense, except for those marked as unregistered or announced otherwise. If you are unable to attend the sale, a bull can be purchased for you on order during the auction. Please call either Bill or Leland in advance of the sale and discuss with us the price range and the type of bull you are looking for, and we will recommend the bull or bulls that will fit your needs. If you don’t like the bull when he is delivered to your place, he’s not yours; and the money paid will be refunded. If the bull can be purchased for less than your maximum bid, you get the bull for the amount he left the ring at, just as if you were bidding for yourself. Each year, breeders take advantage of this free service. Call if you would like more information or a reference. For sight unseen satisfaction guarantees, you must purchase an animal that either Bill or Leland have previously recommended to fit your needs.

Mortality Insurance

Insurance will be available on sale day at the rate of 4% of the purchase price for 6 months coverage. Other rates apply for longer or shorter insured periods. Inquire at the clerks’ table.

Trich Testing

Many states have new rules for trich testing and none of the sale bulls have been tested. Should a Trich Test be required Post Rock will pay costs involved and complete the testing requirements soon following the sale.

Female Lots

Please make arrangements to pickup all female lots within one week of the sale date.

TELE-AUCTION AVAILABLE

Post Rock is located in a very poor cell phone reception area and we encourage you to utilize this service. If you will be unable to attend the sale, you can do your own bidding via a conference telephone hook up that will connect you to ringside for the sale. You will be able to listen to the sale in progress, talk directly to our ringside representative and bid. Buyers interested in the option should call Bill prior to sale day at 785-792-6244. You will be given the phone number and pass code to join the tele-auction and assigned a bidder number with which to do your bidding. Your only cost will be your normal long distance charges, charged by your long distance carrier. This would work well if you have looked at the sale offering prior to sale day and for sight unseen purchases.

How the Bulls Were Developed

The spring bulls selling were early-weaned on August 8 and had received no creep feed after one of the hottest, driest summer in recent history. They have received a ration of ammoniated wheat straw, failed corn silage, first cutting alfalfa hay silage with DDG and 1# of corn for each 100# of body weight on a ration designed for 3.25 ADG. The fall bulls were weaned May 12 and then put back on native pasture and fed 8 lbs. of grain until October 20 when they were put on the same ration as the spring bulls. The bulls have performed remarkably well, posting an average ADG of 3.72 for Balancer速 bulls and 3.98 for the purebred bulls on the 109 day test period on the cheapest ration we could balance for them.

DCSF POST ROCK ASTRONAUT 157A • Semen package sells as Lot 1. Post Rock Astronaut is a Homo Black, Homo Polled purebred, that, in our opinion, is simply one of those bulls that comes along just every so often even in the most focused breeding programs. Apparently many agreed with our assessment of Astronaut as we’ve never had a bull who’s created as much excitement and interest in the stalls at Denver. We had several outright offers to buy him and many others wanting semen on him. When you take into consideration individual performance, EPD’s and phenotype he is a truly unique and valuable breeding tool. After viewing this year’s sale offering it’s quite obvious his sire is going to be a great breeding bull. Future Investment was the most sought after and high selling bull in the breed in the entire 2012 bull sale season. His semen has been held off the market and his sons selling are the only ones available this spring. Look them over. They are truly an outstanding sire group. His dam and grandam have been two of our favorite cows in our program and its been our desire to keep a son from this cow family for in herd use for many years. Post Rock is retaining full interest and full possession and semen sells in the following semen packages. Semen packages are available for $2,500 per package. Semen sales will be closed until 3-1-16. Purchase price includes 40 units of semen per year in 2014 and 2015. (total of 80 units) In 2016 and thereafter semen package holders will be able to purchase up to 100 units per year for in herd use only at $15 per unit on a first come, first served bases while available. Semen will go on the open market 3-1-2016 for $35 per unit after the original semen package orders for extra semen have been filled. Semen packages may be split once for a maximum 2 breeders per package in packages may not be sold at any point. Semen shipping charges are at the buyers expense or semen may be picked up at Post Rock at no cost or Hawkeye Breeders for their normal handling fees.

Without a doubt, one of the great cows to ever leave our program. She gets my vote for the best balancer cow out of 223M2 that I know of. Her first daughter won the Western Regional for Meredith and later sold in the National Sale (with a baby calf at side). This sale features the first progeny of the most sought after and high selling PB bull of the entire 2012 sale season. His early data in the AGA data base looks fantastic. We found Passion in the stalls at Denver and decided we needed to add him to our program. He was the Breeder Choice Futurity Champion and later the 2010 National Champion. Momma Maker will be a new sire group. He was purchased to be our heifer balancer bull that had an outcross pedigree with very limited data (18 head), he appears to be much more than that. With a 95 BW ratio, 108 WW ratio, we’re really pleased with the Momma Makers, and have used him heavily on our mature calving ease balancer cows as well. Look these bulls over. They are good, with extra substance and muscle not typical of calving ease bulls.
