FRIENDS AND FELLOW CATTLEMEN Welcome to the Diamond H Ranch Annual Production Sale! First and foremost, thank you for taking an interest in our program. It is hard to believe that it has been 12 years since we sold our first set of bulls. Many changes have taken place over the years, but one thing remains the same and that is that we are always striving to improve the genetics that we pass along to our customers. We are so grateful for our past customers who have supported us over the years. It is always nice to see and talk to them about the progressions made inside their own programs! If you are new to the Diamond H, please do not hesitate to call or visit the ranch as we always welcome new faces. As many of you know, I get a little choked up when I introduce my family before our sale. Their devotion to our ranch is unwavering and I am happy to say that all four kids are growing and doing very well. Jade’s role at the ranch has became more involved than ever before as she now does as much of the day to day items as I do on top of all the secretarial duties that she has always done. Trent Mauler and his family continue their role inside of the operation and their help is very much appreciated. Last year, we were hit with a hard winter that brought about many challenges. Like many of you, we took our bumps and bruises, but I feel that we came out doing pretty good. The cowherd maintained its reproductive efficiency and as you will see in the upcoming pages, produced a calf crop above and beyond my expectations. The environmental challenges placed on our females were very high last year…yet they did not waiver. Many of you have heard me say that the females are so important to the success of an operation and I could not be happier with the production of ours. This year’s offering has some old and new faces in the lineup. As you flip through these pages, you’ll find a deep set of bulls and females to look through. On the purebred side, our Merlin, Frankly, Atomic, Oracle and Gladiator calves all carry similarities. They calve easy, grow well, and are phenotypically eye appealing. A number of these calves come from our ET program, which consists of the top ladies in our herd matched with these popular sires…it is visible on the page and in the pen! As for the SimAngus side, Maverick and Rambler lead the way with another set of sons and daughters that simply get it done. Keep in mind that when you are reviewing pedigrees that some of the SimA¬ngus bulls will have a different sire than these two, but are likely out of one of their daughters. The Maverick and Rambler females are making just as big of an impact at our operation as any other sire line we have ever used. Unfortunately, their time in our program is coming to an end…but the statement has definitely been made! As always, we work as hard as possible to provide you all with best seedstock we can. We are constantly measuring and collecting as much data as possible to evaluate our herd and move in positive directions. Our customer’s success is one of the most rewarding parts of this business and we do not take that for granted. On sale day it’s all about the cattle, but in life…it’s those relationships made with like-minded people that you cannot replace. Again, thank you for taking an interest in our program! We would also like to thank our family who is always there to help and support us and to those who have guided and helped us over the years…we send out the most heartfelt appreciation to you all as we would not be where we are today without you! We look forward to seeing you on sale day and wish each one of you a promising 2020! God Bless,
Justin, Jade, Aly, Graycee, Brynn & Stockton (AKA Range Boss)

The impact of new sires is far longer than we usually consider. If they are still breeding cows in five seasons, the last calves will come in 2023. That means you should still have plenty of daughters into the mid 2030s! With that long term impact on your cow herd and industry changes that mean more dollars for genetically better calves, can anyone really afford to take chances? Use IGS EPDs to guarantee value! They are third party verified and backed by data from millions of individuals and the best in DNA genomic technology in the business. You wouldn’t buy any other ranch input without solid proof of value. Genetics might be your most important investment. Buy where you see the Allied logo and get the profit based genetics that you deserve.

AVERAGES TO KEEP IN MIND In addition to phenotypic evaluations, we use numbers to measure our cattle in various ways (like most operations). In reference to that, here are a few statistics about our cattle throughout the past year: Our cowherd had a 96% conception rate through the 2017 breeding season (71% conceived by AI)
Our replacement heifers had a 94% conception rate in 2017 (80% conceived by AI) and a 100% conception rate in 2018
Our cowherd had a 97% conception rate through the 2018 breeding season (78% conceived by AI)

$ INDEXES · WHAT ARE API AND TI? $ Indexes Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ Indexes come in. Through well conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ Indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ Indexes: All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Using API and TI First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements, use API...if not, then use TI. Just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls (as described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed). The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ Indexes visit www.simmental.org.
UNDERSTANDING EPDs Expected Progeny Difference (EPD) — The difference in expected performance of future progeny of an individual, compared with expected performance of future prog- eny of an individual of average genetic merit in the base time frame for the genetic evaluation. EPDs are estimated from phenotypic merit of an individual and all of its relatives and are estimates of one-half the breeding values. EPDs are generally reported in units of measurement for the trait. Average Daily Gain (ADG) — Measurement of daily body weight change over a specified period of time of an animal on a feed test. Back Fat Thickness (BF) — Estimates the average differences that are expected in fat thickness at the 12th and 13th rib between progeny of different animals. Birth Weight (BW) — The weight of a calf taken within 24 hours after birth (reported in pounds). The EPD value predicts the difference in average birth weight of a bull’s progeny compared to progeny of all other bulls evaluated. A positive value indicates heavier-than-average birth weights while a negative value indicates lighter-than-average birth weights. Calving Ease (CE) — The ease with which a bull’s calves are born to first calf heifers. When comparing calving ease EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a higher percent of unassisted births for calves sired by this bull. Carcass Weight (CW) — The EPD predicts the difference in average carcass weight of a bull’s progeny compared to progeny of all other bulls evaluated. A positive number indicates heavier-than-aveage carcass weights while a negative value indicates lower-than-average carcass weights. Frame Score (FRAME) — A score based on subjective evaluation of height or actual measurement of hip height. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE) — Percent of unassisted births in first calving daughters. Marbling Score (MARB) — A subjective evaluation of the amount and distribution of intramuscular fat. The EPD value predicts the difference in average marbling score of a bull’s progeny compared to progeny of all other evaluated bulls. A positive value indicates higher-than-average marbling scores while a negative value indicates lower-than-average marbling scores. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW) — The weaning weight of a bull’s daughters’ calves. The EPD value predicts the difference in average 205-day weight of a bull’s daughters’ calves compared to daughters of all other bulls evaluated. A positive value indicates heavier-than-average weaning weights while a negative value indicates lighter-than-average weaning weights.
Milk (MILK) — The milking ability of a bull’s daughter. The EPD value predicts the difference (due to milking ability) in average 205-day weight of a bull’s daughters’ calves compared to calves of all other bulls evaluated. Positive values indicate above average milking ability of daughters while negative values indicate below average milking ability. Most Probable Producing Ability (MPPA) — An estimate of a cow’s future productivity for a trait (such as progeny weaning weight ratio) based on her past productivity. For example, a cow’s MPPA for weaning ratio is calculated from the cow’s average progeny weaning ratio, the number of her progeny with weaning record, and the repeatability of weaning weight. Ribeye Area (REA) — The average difference in ribeye area in an animal’s progeny when compared to the progeny of another animal at a given age endpoint. Scrotal Circumference (SCROTAL) — A measure of testes size obtained by measuring the distance around the testicles in the scrotum with a circular tape. Stayability (STAY) — The expected difference, in percentage probability, that a bull’s daughters will remain in the herd until at least six years of age. Weaning Weight (WW) — Calf weight taken between 160 and 250 days of age and adjusted to 205 days of age and a mature dam equivalent (reported in pounds). The EPD value predicts the difference in average 205-day weight of a bull’s progeny compared to progeny of all other bulls evaluated. A positive value indicates heavier-than-average weaning weights while a negative value indicates lighter-than-average weaning weights. Yield Grade (YG) — Predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade score. This EPD is calculated using the genetic predictions of CW, REA, and BF EPDs. Yearling Weight (YW) — Weight taken between 330 and 440 days of age and adjusted to 365 days of age and a mature dam equivalent (reported in pounds). The EPD value predicts the difference in average 365-day weight of a bull’s progeny compared to progeny of all other bull’s evaluated. A positive value indicates heavier-than-average yearling weights while a negative value indicates lighter-than-average yearling weights.

We recently participated in the American Simmental Assoication’s Cow Herd DNA Roundup. We quickly realized how beneficial it would be to our operation as well as our customer’s to have DNA processed on the rest of our cattle. We have always made it a priority to provide our customers with the most accurate information possible. Combining DNA information, the pedigree of a bull and/or heifer and the individual production data significantly increases the reliability of their EPDs. All registered cattle in this offering have genomic enhanced EPDs powered by Neogen (the world’s leader in DNA testing for agriculture). We always incorporate phenotypic traits such as disposition, fertility, foot and udder structure and mothering abilities into the equation for success...DNA simply adds to that equation!

Maverick was the high selling bull in the 2015 C Diamond/Wilkinson Bull Sale. His unique pedigree provides a very proven maternal line in the Simmental breed and has just the right amount of performance to keep cattle efficient and relatively moderate. His disposition is five star and his offspring express this as well. His granddam is arguably one of the best red Simmental cows in the country…look to his progeny to increase maternal genetics and maintain performance. Semen is available through Allied Genetic Resources.

DHCC Rambler 644D is an F1 son that we raised in 2016. His sire (CDI Maverick 335B) does not need an introduction, but his dam (HRAA Romo 733) is our top donor cow. She raised this calf and to say the least, he was never offered for sale. He is as well balanced as his sire and he comes from a female who carries an MPPA of 116…his offspring are the kind to build a herd with! He keeps birth weight in check and the cattle express strong growth and maternal traits. We do not see many holes in this sire; his disposition and phenotype are top notch.

Stakeholder was the second high selling bull in the 2016 Leland Red Angus Bull Sale (he sat second to his half brother that year). We have been very pleased with his first calf crop. This sire has a considerable amount of performance and maternal traits in his pedigree being that he is in the top 11% in WW, the top 20% in YW and below breed average for CED. Take a look at his GM, MARB, CW, MILK and CEM EPDs. He excels well above average in over 50% of the EPD categories. His calves will bring a positive movement upward in growth, carcass and maternal traits. Overall, he is a very well-balanced sire.

Bieber CL Atomic C218 is a sire that we have used in both our AI and ET programs. After we saw the first calves, we were really glad we had extra embryos with him on the topside of the pedigree. The cattle calve very easy and grow. Although he is not a growth curve bender, you will see that his progeny display a lot of depth and red meat. Almost all of his calves are born in the 65-75lb range. Look for this sire to add depth of body and hip to your Red Angus cattle, along with strong maternal and carcass genetics.

Diamond H Ranch Production Sale | March 25, 2020 | 12:30pm
STAY
Hybrid vigor plays a huge role in our operation. From the beginning, we knew that Red Angus would be the foundation of our herd, but we also knew that breed complementarity was something we could not ignore. Through a systematic Red Angus and Simmental crossbreeding program, we can bridge the gap in our never ending quest to create the most balanced animals we can that have the ability to fit multiple scenarios and environments. Inside our own ranch, the crossbred female continually proves herself and we have the data to back it up. Increased fertility, efficiency and longevity are just a few of the things we love about these cattle and we will continue to combine the best genetics out there to create them.

Why not start the sale with a cross between the best female in our herd, HRAA Romo 733, along with one of the top sires in the Red Angus breed, WFL Merlin 018A?! DHCC Merlin 947G is one of the best 1A bulls that we have ever raised with 13 EPDs above average and 10 in the top 35%. This young herd sire can go any direction you wish to use him. He has a number of full brothers in the sale and they will all catch your eye in the pen.

Maverick does it again! Lot 2 is just another example of crossbreeding that works. This dark red bull is very well balanced and will add pounds to any calf crop. Maverick progeny have been the front-runners in our program for the last four years and DHCC Maverick 950G is another example why. Combined with DHCC Hondo B433 on the bottom side, I can guarantee replacement females will also be prevalent.

DHCC Gladiator 946G is a 1A bull sired by one of the up and coming studs at Bieber Red Angus, Bieber Gladiator C386. This ET calf excelled inside of his contemporary group and exemplifies another solid mating to HRAA Romo 733. Lot 3 is thick and stout yet still travels well. He has a 5 star disposition and will increase the bottom line.

DHCC Atomic 968G does not surprise me. This flush turned out just as we expected providing calving ease from Bieber CL Atomic C218 and the power from HRAA Romo 733, creating a nice blend for a potential heifer bull. We have AI’ed both our heifers and cows to Atomic and have consistently seen calves born in the 60-70 pound range. Do not miss this young sire when looking for a bull that could be used in any direction.

If you could put the best eggs all in one basket, you would get DHCC Rambler 956G. Rambler, Maverick, Romo, Strategy…oh and lets not forget Beefmaker (0872U), this young sire has the best of the best in his pedigree! Can you say maternal? HRAA Romo 733 and Pelton Miss Ashlyn 0872U (who’s daughter happens to be the dam to Lot 5) both put 30 embryos on the table in their last flush. I’d mix these eggs in the bowl any time for calves as good as this one.

DHCC Oracle 977G is a really nice calf combining calving and carcass from JJX Oracle 723E with the maternal and power of DHCC Maverick E716. This ¾ AR by ¼ SM calf came out at 64 pounds and still cleared 1200 on his yearling weight. I mentioned in the opening letter that Maverick daughters are now making their impacts in the operation. This is just another example of that.

Over Draft Pick 413D is a newer line for us, but we have been very pleased with his performance. He was the high selling bull at Overmiller Red Angus in 2017. He is passing his own performance and phenotype on to calves like DHCC Draft Pick 974G pretty consistently. Check out his EPDs and performance data! Also, notice the Maverick cow line on the bottom side? This young SimAngus bull should be used on cows; sit back and watch the calves grow!

DHCC Gladiator 802F is 1A full brother to Lot 3 and is another Bieber Gladiator C386 by HRAA Romo 733 son who did an outstanding job coming out of the fall program. This bull has a long and thick top, thick hip, deep body, and portrays a really nice travel pattern for as much power as he has.

DHCC GLADIATOR 801F

DHCC Gladiator 801F and DHCC Gladiator 809F are two Gladiator sons who share something great in common… a donor cow on the bottom side out of the Lakota family. The Lakota line stems from up north and has consistently been tested in some pretty harsh environments. Both Lot 10 and 11 are moderately framed and well balanced. If you need multiple sires to increase consistency in your calf crop here is a nice pair of 18-month-old brothers.

We brought BUF CRK The Right Kind U199 back in the picture for a number of reasons and here are two examples why. DHCC Right Kind 803F and DHCC Right Kind 805F are full brothers who are very thick, efficient, very deep bodied and moderately framed. Their pedigrees are very proven due to the large number of progeny by both BUF CRK The Right Kind U199 and HRAA Romo 733, which makes this combo pretty predictable. These two brothers could be used in about any scenario and will increase your chances of success.

Remember what I said in the notes of Lot 12 and 13 about the predictability of BUF CRK The Right Kind U199 and HRAA Romo 733?! Check out the weaning weights and yearling weights of these three full brothers…DHCC Right Kind 804F, DHCC Right Kind 808F and DHCC Right Kind 810F. They are within 25 pounds of each other! Keep in mind that the 18-month-old bulls do not normally run with the spring bulls as they are from the fall herd, which is managed differently. All of these 1A brothers would work in any scenario from heifers to cows and will be a nice spread from birth weight to weaning weight and ultimately yearling weight!

DHCC Merlin 971G carries many similarities of Lot 1…and why shouldn’t he…they are full brothers! Lot 19 is a very eye appealing, young sire that exhibits a smooth shoulder and strong balance in his phenotype. I expect him to calve very easy and could be used on heifers. With 11 EPDs in the top 35%, you shouldn’t have much to worry about here.

DHCC Maverick 963G is a really nice F1 bull with a great disposition and a really long top. With an 80 pound birth weight to almost a 1300 pound yearling weight, this Rambler son does not have too many holes. For use on cows that you can add some hybrid vigor to or implement him into a crossbred scenario and enjoy watching a calf with Maverick in his gene pool make you money.

If you need a pair of 1A heifer bulls out of a proven calving ease sire with carcass to go with it, don’t miss DHCC Defender 926G and DHCC Defender 927G. 5L Defender 560-30Z has been used extensively across the US. We added a little more performance with our donor cow, MLK CRK Lakota 929, on the bottom side and are very pleased with the outcome.
Videos of the bulls can be viewed online at diamondhcattle.org

DHCC Draft Pick 975G not only looks good in the pen, but has 15 EPDs above average on paper. As mentioned earlier, the Over Draft Pick 413D calves do many things well and we cannot think of a better way to improve them but to add Maverick and Beefmaker to the bottom side of the pedigree.

WFL MERLIN 018A
Have I mentioned we are really liking the consistency we have been getting from Leland Frankly 018-7520?! We are 41 lots in and this young sire has 11 EPDs in the top 35% and has a great cow line on the bottom side of his pedigree. We sold his granddam at 13 years of age and she was bred hence the top 1% for stayability.

At 76 pounds to over 1250, DHCC Oracle 932G and DHCC Frankly 988G show up on the radar rather quickly. Their Beefmaker dams on the bottom side are getting some years on them, but still put 740 plus in the weaning pen. These ¾ Oracle and Frankly sons would work great on a set of commercial, high percentage English cows.

I mentioned earlier that I felt that we had a pretty deep set of bulls. Well DHCC Rambler 960G has an awesome spread consisting of a 70 pound birth weight to a 1270 pound yearling weight. Not only that, he has 10 EPDs in the top 35%. With a stacked pedigree on both sides, I expect great things out of this SimAngus sire.

DHCC Rambler G917 is as promising as a female as some of her half-brothers that are in the front of the catalog. She is very deep, has a smooth front and travels very well. Her pedigree has some of the great bloodlines that we have tested and been successful with. The Beefmaker and Lancer combination on the bottom side has produced many of the replacement females for us and I expect nothing less from this young heifer. She is in the top 25% on CE, BW, Milk, MWW, Stay and API and has moderate growth.

DHCC Maverick G945 has as good a structure as her sire, plus she has his disposition which is five star. Her dam, DHCC Flat Iron Y007, has been a constant producer of herd sires and replacement females in her tenure at the ranch. As I have mentioned numerous times in the notes, the Maverick females are proving themselves daily at our place! If you are looking for a great F1 cow to add to your SimAngus herd, do not miss your chance at Lot 64.

DHCC Stakeholder G942 is out of a sire that has been used for the last 5 years at our operation and he has always brought some great females to the replacement pen. Like many of her sisters, this heifer exhibits natural thickness, a longer top and depth of body. Her dam, DHCC Ticket X004, has made the cover of several ads and catalogs due to her eye appeal and this heifer mimics her in many ways. The Stakeholder cattle in general have always had higher growth numbers and performance values just as Lot 68 portrays.

Low birth, high growth, fertile and high indexing… what is there not to like about a replacement female with those credentials?! DHCC Rambler G918 has a really nice look to her and a great disposition. This moderate female has our top donor, HRAA Romo 733, along with CDI Maverick 335B on the topside.

DHCC Frankly G947 is a 1B female out of the up and coming Frankly bull that we really like and an older cow on the bottom side that has proven herself year in and year out. The Leland Frankly 018-7520 calves have been very consistent no matter what we breed him to. What you are unable to see on the pedigree page is Lot 73’s great granddam on the bottom side (CC 224) who was 15 when we retired her. This moderate framed, calving ease, with above average growth female is definitely worth a look if you are needing a high percentage Red Angus replacement.

Well if you are a numbers person, DHCC Oracle G933 is your gal. With 13 EPDs in the top 25% of the breed, this SimAngus female has so much going for her. She has a very quiet disposition with a lot of body and eye appeal. She comes from a young Maverick cow on the bottom side and a calving ease specialist on the top side. This one is hard to miss in the pen.

Maverick over Rebel…we have done this before many times and it works! The cattle are always very balanced and do not have very many holes in them. DHCC Maverick G922 is no different. Her EPDs are nothing to shake a stick at either… top 5% in API, Stay and Milk, along with above average in all but three categories. Maverick daughters are difficult not to like.

DHCC Frankly G943 is another really solid Frankly daughter out a proven Beefmaker cow. Some of you will remember about 10 years ago when we were selling our first Pelton Beefmaker 25U sons and not too many of his daughters ever came up for sale. They have been one of our backbone cow families in the last decade and this ¾ blood heifer shows a lot of the similar traits that we enjoy so much. If you like cows that flat out go to work, this one is for you!

MULTI-BREED GENETIC EVALUATION Powered By BOLT International Genetic Solutions (IGS) is an unprecedented collaboration between progressive breed associations fervently committed to enhancing commercial profitability. The collaboration has yielded the world’s largest genetic evaluation of beef cattle with over 17 million animals and 120,000+ genotypes. In keeping with our commitment to the cattle industry, IGS is pleased to announce the IGS Multi-breed Genetic Evaluation powered by BOLT. The new genetic evaluation provides more predictive EPDs, better use of genomics, more accurate accuracy reported with EPDs, all with weekly evaluations. The announcement ushers in a new era in genetic evaluation—an era made possible by a genetic evaluation system dubbed BOLT (Biometric Open Language Tools, owned by Theta Solutions, LLC). The concept for BOLT started in 2014 as a research endeavor between the American Simmental Association and Drs. Bruce Golden and Dorian Garrick. BOLT is, quite simply, the most revolutionary and powerful genetic evaluation system in existence. Its power allows IGS to leverage genetic evaluation methodology that was once thought to be untenable on large databases—methodology that significantly improves genetic prediction. In December 2016, IGS published a multi-breed stayability, the industry’s first EPD using BOLT and the first single-step methodology applied to a large beef cattle database. Since that time, the IGS genetic evaluation team has worked toward fully implementing BOLT with an automated system that enables weekly evaluations for an entire suite of EPDs. As of May 5th, 2018, ASA is the first of the IGS partners to publish a full suite of EPDs generated by the IGS Multi-breed Genetic Evaluation powered by BOLT. Here are the notable changes in the evaluation: Movement of EPDs and reranking. EPDs and indexes will change. These changes will be more dramatic for younger, lower accuracy cattle. The IGS team has tested the changes and proven the new EPDs result in superior predictions of genetic merit. Shrinking of EPD range. You will notice a reduction in the range of EPDs for most traits. The IGS evaluation team tested the statistical veracity of the reduction and it has proven to be in line with expectations based on the genetic variation in the population. Improved use of genomics. With the switch to the BOLT software, IGS will use single-step genomic evaluation on all EPDs. Single-step uses DNA markers, pedigree information and phenotypic data simultaneously in the prediction of EPDs. Previously, molecular breeding values (MBVs) were calculated from the genomic information and those MBVs were blended in a separate procedure into the EPD predictions. The single-step method squeezes more information from the DNA markers than the previous approach allowed. Additionally, with single-step, the genomic information will not only enhance each EPD for the genotyped animals but also will be used in the EPD estimates of relatives. It is well established that DNA markers vary greatly in their effect on traits—ranging from large to virtually no impact. To leverage this biological fact in a statistically advantageous manner, the BOLT single-step method only uses markers that have a meaningful impact on the traits of interest, while ignoring those that have little to no effect. Research has shown that by using this approach, BOLT reduces statistical “noise” and thereby increases the accuracy of the EPD prediction compared to other single-step methods. It is important to note, continued collection of phenotypic records remains a vital part of genetic predictions. DNA testing will never replace the need to record and submit phenotypes. More accurate accuracy. In the previous IGS evaluation platform and all others in existence other than BOLT, the calculation of the accuracy associated with each EPD is achieved through “approximation” methods. It has long been known these methods are a less than optimal approach to the calculation of accuracy—tending to overestimate accuracy. By employing unique computing strategies that leverage both software and hardware efficiencies, BOLT performs what was previously unthinkable—utilizing a sampling methodology to calculate what is essentially true accuracy. Unlike approximated accuracies, BOLT-derived accuracies will result in predicted movements associated with possible change holding true over time. This is not the case with the previous IGS software or any other system currently in existence. While the IGS evaluation team and partners are excited to release this new chapter in genetic evaluation, the new genetic evaluation system will only realize its true potential if the selection is made using its EPD and index values. Hands down, there is no better (more accurate) way to select for quantitative traits than an EPD. Economic indexes predict net profit by weighing the EPD for economically relevant traits coupled with economic estimates. To compete with other protein sources, it is imperative that the beef industry adopts the best science and technology to make better breeding selection decisions.

Diamond H Ranch Production Sale | March 28, 2018 | 12:30pm
Commercial Heifer Groups The Commercial Heifer Groups have all been calf hooded and palpated. The majority of the females come from a selected group off of C&W Ranch. C&W Ranch is a Commercial Red Angus and Red SimAngus operation located in Smolan, KS. These heifers represent the top 60% of their 2019 calf crop. Many of these heifers carry Simmental in their pedigrees, but nothing past 1/2 AR x 1/2 SM. The use of cross bred females in the commercial cow/calf operation can be a very profitable scenario as we see continued longevity and reproductive efficiencies from these cattle. They do not miss on the performance side of things either. These heifers have been grouped by weight and frame scores, which were taken on 2/11/2020. They will be sold as groups of five. If buyers take all five, they can purchase the next group of five for the same price. Buyer will not be allowed to sort through the group; they must take all five. These heifers are guaranteed open and with a viable reproductive tract.
