Breeder’s CHOICE GENERAL INFORMATION

Gelbvieh Bull Futurity

The Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity has been initiated by Gelbvieh breeders and supporters to increase participation in the National Gelbvieh Show, the National Gelbvieh Sale and to identify the most useful young sires in the Gelbvieh breed. The sponsor of the annual Futurity will be the Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity, Inc., a non-profit organization, not associated with the American Gelbvieh Association. The Futurity winners will be selected by scored balloting of the participating breeders members. Ballots must have a different bull in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions. Ballots must include all three positions. The consignor of the Futurity winner shall receive the greater of approximately 80% of the net futurity funds or the net proceeds from the sale of the bull in the National Sale . Two runners-up will be identified to receive approximately 10% respectively of the net futurity funds. The Futurity winner will be sold in the National Gelbvieh Sale. The lesser of the net sale proceeds of the winning bull or the net futurity proceeds will be given to one breeder/member who will be selected by a random drawing at the Futurity Social on Saturday night. Each Futurity breeder member will receive 20 (twenty) units of semen from the winning bull. The voting will be held at the National Western Stadium Arena on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at approximately 10:00 am. The top 3 vote winning bulls in the initial voting will come back to the arena for a second voting to select and announce The Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity Champion. Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity drawing will held at the Double Tree Hotel Saturday night, January 11, 2020, at the Breeder’s Choice Futurity Social. The 2020 Futurity is limited to 53 breeder memberships. We are selling 2 memberships during the Futurity Events Social at the Double Tree Hotel. Queen of Hearts and 7 of Clubs sell prior to the drawing. All bulls entered in the 2020 Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity have been DNA tested for HD Genomic EPDs and are tested for the following genetic defects: AM; NH; CA; and DD. The winning Breeder’s Choice Futurity bull is AI qualified and all tests have been completed to meet the AGA requirements for AI sires.

He is sired by the record breaking RWG Right Combination 5506 who quickly made his mark in our breeding program producing high selling sons and highly productive daughters. His dam RWG Goodnight 5515 is a young female with donor potential, she’s got a text book udder and broody in her hip and body mass yet sharp fronted. Her cow family has set a strong reputation for their calving ease and maternal strength. “Goodnight cow family” sons are always popular in our bull pen. Fudge’s phenotype speaks for itself, his genotype makes him even more interesting as he offers a very balanced look across the board. This should allow him to be properly mated to a wide range of female bases and ideal for use creating the next set of purebred or balancer seed stock.

Prairie Hills Gelbvieh is excited to introduce PHG Guardian G16 as our nomination in the 2020 Futurity. Guardian is a calf that has stood out all summer for his width and depth of body. He weaned off in October at an actual 928 pounds, for an 836 adjusted weight, and he continues to mash down the scale while maintaining an acceptable frame size. On paper he is incredibly balanced, with his carcass numbers in the top 25% of the breed. Our Paycheck calves have topped our sale for the last two years and it’s because they are stamped like Guardian. He comes backed by a solid mama cow that will be an outcross to many programs. It is a privilege for ProHart Seed Stock to be nominating a bull from our breeding program. Gunslinger’s pedigree is packed with great Gelbvieh breeding programs. His sire, BDCG DC 401 A4 ET was selected out of the Post Rock bull sale and has given our program powerful growth and females that are making their mark as producing matrons. 401 A4 ET sired a full brother to Gunslinger, ProHart Denali 613D who was Winter Bull Calf Champion at NWSS 2017. Denali was the talk of the barn that year and went on to be the high seller in the Pot of Gold Bull Sale. His grandsire, Chief Executive 10U1, was runner up in the 2009 Breeder’s Futurity. This is combined with a line of tremendous female pedigree. The DARC cow needs no introduction to Gelbvieh enthusiasts. The top producing donor and high selling cow out of the Tom Rea dispersal, she continued on in the Dawson Creek and Post Rock ET programs. ProHart Donna 413B comes from one of ProHart’s most productive cow families. 413B is a daughter of Flying H Mr. 184U 316Y and has stacked our herd with sound and high producing females. Donna’s four calves have a weaning ratio of 117, which includes Gunslinger’s 846, 205 weaning weight. Gunslinger won’t disappoint; visually appealing, soundly made, correct patterned, and deep ripped. With 11 of his EPD’s above breed average, you won’t find one as consistent as this guy.
