We would like to welcome everyone to our annual production sale. 2015 marks 30 years in the registered Gelbvieh seedstock business for Prairie Hills Gelbvieh. In the last 30 years we have seen plenty of changes take place in the beef business. While trends come and go, good cattle are always in demand. We would like to thank all of our friends, neighbors, and customers - new and old - for their continued support and business. In recent years we have been increasing our numbers, while maintaining an emphasis on pedigrees and cow families that are out crosses to most herds in the USA and Canada. We still emphasize performance with style. With all of the changes and fluctuations in the cattle market, one thing remains true performance is necessary in order to make a profit. Keeping this in mind, we strive for a balance of traits that are necessary for a complete herd. Calving ease, maternal ability, disposition, as well as carcass traits are all important and are high on our culling criteria. Last year we put in our first group of embryos and are very pleased with the results. This has allowed us to offer groups of full and half brothers for those who run multiple sire pastures. The embryo calves are a bit younger, but they are still an impressive group of bulls. The bulls and heifers have been fed a growing ration from Hubbard Feeds. They receive a free choice ration of 12% protein pellets and free choice oat and field pea hay. They also have access to VitaFerm ConceptAid mineral, and a VitaFerm mineral supplement incorporated into the feed ration.

The sale will again be held at the sale facility at Klint & Maralee’s. All cattle will be sold by video, with the bulls and heifers available for viewing within feet of the sale facility. No live animals will be entering the building. We will have the videos available for viewing on our website (www.prairiehillsgelbvieh.com) and the MMS website (www.mms.bz). Any supplemental sale information will also be posted on these two sites. The animals will be available for viewing beginning at 12PM on Friday, February 13th, and 9AM Saturday, February 14th. We will again be broadcasting the sale live through DVAuction. If you are unable to attend the sale and would like to bid, please contact DVAuction prior to the sale to obtain your bidder information. HEALTH INFORMATION All cattle sell with a valid health certificate that will allow shipment anywhere in the continental United States. All cattle are guaranteed to meet health requirements to ship to Canada.
VIEWING OF SALE CATTLE Bulls and females are available for viewing any time prior to the sale. Cattle will be ready for viewing by 9AM on sale day.
REGISTRATION PAPERS All registration papers on the animals selling are in order and will be transferred to the new owner. Papers will be mailed by the AGA and should be to the new owner in 30-45 days.

VIDEO AUCTION SALE PROCEDURE All animals selling will be penned at the sale facility. The auction will be conducted inside the sale barn at Prairie Hills Gelbvieh. A video of each sale animal will be played on large screen displays as the respective animal sells. Cattle will not come into the sale ring. Please arrive early to view the sale offering.
INSURANCE We will make every effort to manage any bulls left in our care in the same manner we manage our own herd bulls, however we understand that accidents do happen. All animals purchased become the responsibility of the buyer after the purchase. We highly recommend insuring your purchase. Insurance will be available on sale day.
ONLINE VIDEO VIEWING Available on the PHG website (www.prairiehillsgelbvieh. com) and the MMS website (www.mms.bz) 2 weeks prior to the sale.
BREEDING SEASON GUARANTEE All bulls and females are sold as guaranteed breeding animals. We will semen test any bulls left in our care in mid-March. If you haul your purchase home before that date, we encourage you to have a breeding soundness exam completed before that date. Any bull failing a semen test or shown to be a non-breeder will be replaced if possible, or the buyer will received a credit (not to exceed the purchase price of the animal), minus salvage value, towards a purchase next year.
DELIVERY We will deliver all purchases for free within 100 miles of the ranch. We try to coordinate deliveries between multiple buyers so bulls can be delivered efficiently and conveniently to the buyer. We will offer a $50 discount if you haul your purchase home within 1 week of the sale. FEEDING We will feed all purchases free of charge for 30 days (March 15th). Bulls can be left after this date and fed for $3 per day.
INTERNATIONAL SALES Prairie Hills Gelbvieh is experienced in transporting animals across the Canadian border and will assist in that transaction. All fees associated with that (brokerage, health testing, etc) are the responsibility of the buyer.
HERD HEALTH Bulls and females have received all appropriate vaccinations and any applicable boosters. All animals have also received Ivomec pour-on prior to sale day.

We are proud to present PHG Prairie Phoenix B101 as our donation animal to the Dickinson Catholic School System’s “Holy Cow Club”. We wanted to choose a top end animal who could go out and really perform for his new owner – Phoenix is that animal. B101 offers an awesome EPD profile that goes well with his eye catching good looks. Straight made and clean fronted, we’ve had our eye on him as a show potential since birth. We purchased his dam from the Beastrom dispersal in 2013 after seeing her last calf in Denver as their futurity bull. This is a top notch, breeder quality bull who combines all the right pieces into a very desirable package! Retaining ½ semen interest. 100% of the proceeds from PHG Prairie Phoenix B101 will be donated to the Dickinson Catholic Schools “Holy Cow Club”. The group was started in 1993 by my grandfather, Albert Sickler, and other area farmers and ranchers as a way of helping to support the school system by donating the proceeds of one calf each year. After about a decade, the group grew smaller and was eventually disbanded. The fire that gutted Trinity High School in March of 2014, and the plans to build a new unified campus, brought the need for additional funding to light. Like the mythical Phoenix, we hope the school will be able to rise from the ashes and be born anew. We are proud that this will be the first animal sold under this reborn group and hope that you will help support this worthy cause. Boomer was our bull futurity nomination for the Canadian Bull Futurity this year, and he made plenty of friends on both sides of the border! Probably one of the best X-Rated sons to date, he has all the qualities of his sire – dark red in color, deep sided, smooth shouldered, and a pedigree that will work in most herds. His mother achieved Dam of Merit status in 2013, and puts one in the top end every year. We think so much of her, she entered our embryo program this summer. Check his performance and you’ll see an 84 pound BW and an 840 WW. He’s presently cranking along at 4.7 pounds per day – that’s the kind of bull that will put money in the bank! Bam Bam is a calf that has been turning heads since our open house in August, and has gotten plenty of attention since then. His dam was imported into the US from Valley Gelbvieh in Alberta as an open heifer, and is a picture perfect example of a Gelbvieh female. Their herd has been closed for many years - these females being some of the only cattle to ever leave the ranch - and as such her numbers don’t reflect the true potential of this female. B98 is a prime example of the type of calves Yukon is producing - deep middled, wide based, and stylish. With an 85lb birthweight and a 799 weaning, PHG B98 is truly a combination bull that gives you the best of performance and calving ease - being homozygous black and polled is just icing on the cake! This is one of Galen’s favorites. Thunder was never shown, but should have had a halter on him. CVV 58P is one of our embryo donor cows, and has sons in this years sale out several different sires, and all of them are high quality. We made the decision that we should sell at least one Sucker Punch female this year, and we picked one of the coolest. Britney is the only red daughter from Sucker Punch. Goose fronted, she’s exceptionally clean and straight where it counts. A 69 pound BW and a 717 WW indicate that she’ll get it done as a producer as well. She’s never had a halter on her, but she could show for the right junior.
