It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome you the Spring Edition of

The Black Label. Formerly known as The Hunt, we elected to retire that sale title and consolidate our efforts towards The Black Label. Same great people are involved in both sales, so expect the same great cattle, service, and results. As the Texas Majors and OYE come to a close, we are finding out that our past customers have been very successful and the breeders representing the cattle in this offering have had great outings at these prestigious events. This team of breeders is committed to your success and to make sure that your investments continue to work for you beyond the tan bark. We believe in what we are doing to assist you and your young exhibitors in achieving your goals in the beef cattle arena and we are appreciative of the partnerships and friendships we are building on for years to come. Our goal, as a team, is not only to give your young showman every advantage possible, but to build a relationship that will benefit everyone for the future. In stating this, we want to assist not only with feeding, daily care, and show tasks, but want to be involved in your genetic decisions and marketing of the resulted progeny and/or frozen genetics. The Black Label group is comprised of talented, professional breeders with access to a nationwide network loaded with talent in the beef cattle business. Our track record should speak for itself with the number of scholarships and show honors that have resulted from these cattle for the past 15 years. This is your invitation to come take part in a fun filled, family oriented day that kicks off with a Weaver Clinic lead by Jay Carr. Jay really needs no introduction to show industry, but for those that do not know him, heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s one of the most talented people in the business when it comes to full scope, show cattle knowledge. Not only is Jay gifted with an excellent eye for high quality cattle, he has been a student and grown to be a master of feeding both steers and heifers, daily care, clipping, show preparation, and hoof trimming. Heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s one of the best in the business, we are happy to call him our friend and we are confident that you and your showman will be impressed with the knowledge he has to share with all of those in attendance. Joe Seale did a lot for our program and we thank him and his family for all that they have done and continue to do for us. Quite possibly one of the best thing that Joe provided besides years of knowledge and second to none animal husbandry, was the opportunity to use a bull like Wide Body, both A.I. and natural service. The female base we have retained that are sired by the late Wide Body and/or influenced by his sons are saturated with production as they continually produce cattle that rise to the top each season. This female sired by Blacklist is from a Wide Body female. Blacklist is a product of a maternal sister and a direct daughter of S600, FBFS Wakanda, a past high selling female for both Owen Brothers and Circle M. The maternal grandam of this female is one that we bred here at FBF years ago. She was in the belly of a recip female we sold on a significant private treaty deal a decade ago. When we visited that place next spring, we did what we could to acquire her and we are sure glad we did. The down side would be that we havenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t been aggressive enough with her until the past 2 years but we are glad we have put the pedal to the floor. The Executive Order sire group has done a lot of positive things breed wide. He fixes the paper while adding extra body and skeletal dimension with each calf he sires. It take a bigger longer female to make those college boy type show heifers and we feel we have hit the mark with this one. Great pedigree, great cow families, and an awesome calf.

To say that Mosaic is proven and profitable, may be an understatement. During her tenure at Hidden Oaks she produced the keeping kind and the thus the kind we hated to part with. Primarily all we ever offered from her was a pair of heifer calves and embryos through the Black Label sale series, everything else we retained to continue her legacy. Her genetics survived the private treaty sale we did with Parnell a year ago on a large group of cows and these eggs we are offering will be the last genetics to ever be offered directly from this matriarch. The Hammer mating yielded the high selling bull at Kearns Cattle Co Bull Sale in 2017, KCC1 Defiant, selling to Vanhove for $29,500. The first calves are arriving and are well received, stirring up positive conversations for those that used him in his first year of service. Many breeders have passed judgment on sires like Hammer, Broker, and Driver, just to name a few due to ownership, however at Hidden Oaks we have adopted the high road approach to this, if it can benefit us and our program in a positive direction we will use the bull in the manner we see fit. Improving and moving forward is good business and when you can attach profit to that, it becomes necessary. The Broker mating has yielded several high-quality females that have extra foot, bone, skeletal integrity, style and balance. We realize that they are inferior stock on paper when you run them through the computer, BUT thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a lot to be said for real world production results that hinge on weight and phenotype. Most state fairs and all Texas Majors ARE NOT CONCERNED with using breed association agendas in junior shows and the commercial bull buyer that sells cattle at weaning time is more concerned about pay-weight and longevity. The Broker cattle do perform as a whole and the greater majority of his daughters are wet and productive. We are aware of the disadvantages but rather relish in the advantages of this proven mating that has yielded our program at HOC with positive reward. The late Wide Body set a new standard at the National Sale in Ft. Worth when Joe Seale offered 8 IVF slots on his bull. Essentially his semen was valued at $3000 per unit. This mating has worked well also here at HOC. The plain simple fact is that if we were in a more desirable situation with Ranch labor and time these opportunities would not be offered. On the other hand, we also know the time value of certain genetics and we feel that there is no better time than now to make this offer available. WE DO REGRET that we cannot offer any guarantees on these embryos, but they have been very sticky. Mosaic passed a year ago, so with that obvious statement, no more will be made or offered.

8014 was a sale feature in the 2016 Black Label and was selected by Zach Kearns. She was respected for her power, dimension and prowess on paper. Her cattle have been deep, stout, wide, and high quality in their physical build. This mating has produced an outstanding bull calf for the Culpepper family of Gonzales that has been accumulating several fans in the south Texas region.
