Ebonys Joy 5392c

What a way to kick off the 2016 edition of The Hunt! This pair of sisters represent two, super influential cow lines in the Simmental

business, both sides of the lineage are fruitful with positive outcomes and significant profit margins. The donor dam hails from the successful pastures of Janssen Farms, IA as their involvement in the Ebony Joy Cow Family began just a little past ground zero from the discovery of this prolific family. Chris, Dave, and the promotional assistance of Jon, propelled the Joy cow family to stardom to make her quite possibly the single most influential cow in the entire breed with a multitude of daughters and beyond granddaughters in production throughout the nation. The top side of the pedigree reads like a top also, as Hammer’s maternal grandam was one the first five digit valuation black females in the breed and also has the Denver Champion female status to her resume. Hammer’s dam is the first natural calf from the great matriarch as has been heavily utilized by Hilbrands, Polzin, and Thomas Ranch for all of her productive life. The Hammer sire group experienced notable prices throughout the 2016 bull run with many of his sons leading the pack where ever they were appraised.

Ebonys Joy 5375c So it leads to answer the only question owed to these two leading ladies, “How good are they?” As one educated set of eyes can tell, they are different but yet the same in value and that value is determined by you, the potential beholder. One is suitable for cow power at a young age and reads with the look to be a herd bull producer, if her sons are anything like the full brother that still resides in Thedford, the breed may want to buckle up for what’s to come. The other sister may be more suited for the leather, bark, and backdrop role of life for a couple of years. She does drop that look that will turn heads and has the build of a centerfold in the show cattle world. They are definitely the kind! The kind you desire will be left for your final decision on May 7th.

• Complete and correct are the first two things that come to mind when one views JSSC Calamity 034C. She stems from the famous Zel tribe. Two maternal sisters have had success in both the sale and show ring. With the first capturing Reserve Champion female honors in Ft. Worth as a calf and later going on to make the Top 10 at Jr. Nationals for SyAnn Foster. The second was a past high seller of the Black Label going to Mr. Ethan Wood. Whether you are looking for that banner magnet show heifer or your next donor JSSC Calamity will fit the bill.

Champions Produced from The Hunt & The Black Label

T

he Simmental breed has experienced a lot of new interest over the past decade and it has been a bit of a wild ride for the membership and it’s breeders. Here in Texas, it’s as diverse as any one breed can be from Purebreds to SimAngus, and then the native Simbrah. It’s quite possibly one of the largest Junior Associations in the state and is gaining new members as we send this book to print. Our genetics offered through this sale, have went on to be competitive, not only on the state level but the national level as well. Back to back (2014 and 2015) events have produced the Calf Champion at the AJSA Summer Classic Purebred Division. A lot of these genetics have gone on to produce cattle that have been Bred and Owned Champions at the State and National levels. Cattle from The Hunt and The Black Label have also won or been reserve at multiple Texas Majors including 2016 Ft. Worth and 2016 SanAngelo most recently. Possibly our biggest accomplishment as breeders of SimGenetics, the percentage cattle are holding their own in the ORB division as well.

Her maternal grandam is the Zeis Miss Drive N423 female whose influence is seen in numerous programs breed wide. Her Emblazon dam is making her mark on our program and is a favorite of mine and many others who have seen her. 30C is a maternal sib to our Lot 12 female in the 2015 Black Label this past fall who was a favorite of many. From the looks of this heifer I don’t think little brother disappoints. With more than enough body and muscle to please even the most discriminating cattlemen. • Loaded up has gained popularity this past year, and for good reason. The look and show ring presence he transmits to his progeny is generally accompanied with extra power and the right kind of footwork to intrigue even the most discriminating cattlemen. Combine this with the influence of PSI 800 and you get cattle like “Shamika”, Upheaded, powerfully constructed, bold centered, and flexible. Not to mention, after her competitive run on the tanbark, you’ll tap into her true brood cow potential and discover the udder quality, fertility, forage efficiency and longevity that’s associated with cattle bred at Fenton Farms.

We feel privileged to be able to offer yet another set of females that represent the cream of the crop. This Hammer sired female comes from the great Sarah cow family that has produced countless generations of maternal icons. • We scoured the country looking for Red Angus females that excel the bar for foot size, shape, structure, and great looks, it’s a bit more challenging to find these kind than one what one might think. This heifer is a daughter of one of the first sons on Firestorm to sell at public auction. The famed Weber program of Minnesota selected him, they are definitely no strangers to the beef industry and breed leading herd sire production. Firebolt is from the Savannah donor of Solution Genetics, he just happens to have been mated to the full sister to Doc Holiday in this scenario that yielded this radiant Red. Foundation hoof structure is sound like her length of stride off both ends. She ties a long neck into the top of her shoulder that blends to a near perfect rib design where she lays down a big top that transitions to a stout, wide pinned hip that leaves with the same base width. This gem is heavy structured and incredible to analyze. We predict this one to be a big time Senior Yearling with the resume to get her there. Yes, she’s just one in this offering, but she is definitely the right one suited for your liking. Jesse Weber 570.530.5427

Welcome to the sale! The Hunt was a suggested name by Kyle Walter, 2 full years ago.

It was named such, as each and every competitive person in this business is always on The Hunt to find the “next one” they need. That desired donor or breeding piece, or of course the next great show female that will get the purple gathered. The top tier of these types of cattle are in high demand and will be for some time; The next level of cattle are more than likely the ones that will produce the profit generating, herdbuilding kind that need the compliment of the right sire or mating choice. Each and every firm involved has a proven track record of success in their respective division of the sale offering; some are very diversified, and some concentrate on one particular breeding schematic in the quest of excellence. It is with great pride that we Welcome You to The Hunt, Vol. III.

May 7, 2016 will be the day you will find cattle that are sibs to cattle that have excelled in the donor pen, bull stud, or on the tanbark. You will find cattle from potent cow families and proven donors on both sides of the pedigree. Yes, there will also be the kind that are from the latest generational interval that will have a different look or twist and those phenotypic awesome ladies that have surfaced later in life to prove themselves to be top tier worthy. As each event at Shipwreck Cattle Co, this will be a video sale. All cattle will be on display for your viewing and should be on the sale premise by May 4, 2016. Please feel free to call or just come by and visit anytime as we aim to make this viewing as convenient as possible for all. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to seeing all of you on this 2016 Mother’s Day Weekend. Regards,

Jered Shipman

• I have said it many times. A good Charolais show heifer is not easy to find. And I think this one is good. Her Thomas Ranch bred mother was a very strong competitor in the show ring for Dillon being named Reserve Champion Charolais at both Fort Worth and San Antonio Junior shows. Fire Power is also siring many excellent show females across the country. I love the smoothness this heifer possesses and still has excellent top and rib shape. We like this female’s design and look from the profile and appreciate her foot size and density of bone. More intriguing to us, is her pedigree that’s line with the influence of Broker’s dam, H25. Like them or hate them, one cannot deny the success of the H25 cow family, they breed true and are very predictable for generations. She’s an X2 (Upgrade x H25) and from a Steel Force sired maternal sister to the Sloup/ Fenton donor, Cottontail. So rest assured that this stout bodied, sound made creature will do nothing but make her new owner, a profitable one.

SimAngus Breds

The Thomas family of Thomas Ranches, Harrold, South Dakota needs no direct introduction to the beef production circles that

MS TR MONEYLINE 4462B / Lot 78

encompass the industry. Troy has judged countless shows across the country and he and his family endured a very successful and long career in the Charolais breed before their record setting dispersal back in November. The Angus, Red Angus, and Simgenetic cattle that still roam the grasslands of Thomas Ranch are equally potent in quality just as their Charolais herd was. Their bulls representing the three aforementioned breeds are in high demand at their annual bull sale, so they must be doing something right. Thomas Ranch has always maintained a Simmental influence in some shape or form as they recognized the distinct advantage of the SimAngus female for multiple uses in different scenarios. As many over the last few years, they have invested in the right bulls when made affordable to their budget, acquired those males and then in turn used them back on the arsenal of Angus females on the ranch. When they acquired the sire to this set of fall bred heifers, the guess work had been removed knowing the potency of Upgrade as part owners and the proven no miss, no nonsense production of the great Melody donor, one would only expect these heifers to be as good as they are from one to the next. No, they are not peas in a pod, full sister type, but they are half sisters with a productive Angus dam in common, that are ranch raised, ranch proved, and ranch bred. Believe me when I say, it’s a challenge finding a bull that meets the wants and needs of every beef producer in a multitude of breeds, but the Barstow Cash son that these ladies are carrying the service on, is second to none as a mature Angus 2. His yearling picture in the book, doesn’t do him any justice as a two and I believe the resulting low % Simgenetic progeny will have incredible value in a lot of facets of the business. If you don’t like the fact that they are bred Angus, but you like the cattle themselves then digest this statement made by Joe Seale a couple years back, “I don’t ever buy cattle because of what they are bred to, I buy them because I like them and the value they hold beyond the first calf.”

Smoke Breds Rosanky Cattle Co females in The Hunt are elite representatives of the nearly 900 females that reside on the ranch in Rosanky, Texas.

Mike, his wife Gretchen, and sons, Zach, and Bodie all take part in a great operation consisting of a Heterosis loaded cowherd that’s complimented by AI .and some of the most elite herd bulls in the business that get limited promotion. Mike is always on the search for a bull; club calf, Angus, Simmental, it doesn’t matter, he’s on the mission to find the next one that fits what they need. Physical appearance or phenotype is the driving force of passion for the Hughes family and it has rewarded them over the years. I consider this to be one of the most underrated cowherds in the country. Good cattle, great people, with a proven worth and a solid no nonsense reputation.

Also I still get asked about their full brother that impressed so many and sold on Dan Sullivan’s Genetic Progress sale for $15,500 a few years back. Don’t limit yourself to Purebreds though. Your mating choices will be unlimited. In fact their full sibs are the dams of the our two Red Red Wine Red Angus x Char daughters that were so well accepted in the 2015 Hunt Sale at 9,500 and 9,000. Like to raise show steers then think about Smokin’ Bob or Man Among Boys and imagine what the return will be. These are two smooth made, level topped, square hipped charolais female that bring a lot of look and quality to the table.

American Breds

T

his set of American influenced cattle originated from my Father-in Law, Jack Nichols. They are sired by SimAngus, and Simmental bulls back on some of the best commercial Brangus and super baldie cows that you will ever see. I sort these females off the top of 60 plus of their herd mates and are extremely pleased with how they have developed. I think these cattle have a ton of versatility in our part of the world. Whether you want to raise American influenced show stock or just appreciate good functional cattle that always demand a premium no matter the market then these girls should meet your approval. THIS SET OF CATTLE HAVE PRODUCED well in all facets of the industry. Wayne Mason has selected several females from this herd in the past with much success. One of the most recent stories of success is that the champion Gert steer in Houston 2013 was produced by one of these females. Several other local cattlemen have selected large groups of these females in the past and the result has always been the same’ a satisfied customer.

• It’s with great pleasure to welcome this beast to Texas soil! It is such for a laundry list of reasons, from her daily photogenic approach to the paper that “real seedstock breeders” look at with her indexes and calculated values. This young daughter of the great Final Answer, ties everything that is exceptional in the beef business in one package. Her killer build, the build that yields potential high end show females, high end donor prospects, and most importantly top shelf herd bulls that are breed changers. Her data leads her to produce cattle that can change the business and make it more bullet proof and predicted. Common sense and science don’t go hand in hand, but we believe this is one of the most valuable brood matrons in some time, Angus breeders should be on deck, Simmental and composite genetic cattlemen should get in a competitive mode to acquire this hard to come by, big numbered breeding piece prior to her prime, as it should be a great ride. Those of you in the club calf world, should look over the fence at the potential this one holds as an investment, money making opportunity also, what else do we do this for other than the fact it is our passion to build the perfect beast.
