Sale Welcome
From all of us at B Bar C & Starwest, we’d like to welcome you to our 6th Annual Simmental Bull Sale. With time brings changes and progression. With that, we decided to move the sale to Starwest Farms located just south of Calmar, Alberta. We’d like to thank the Daines Family and Innisfail Auction Mart for looking after us for the past four sales at their location.
On October 28th, Lance and Christel welcomed a son, Linden Harold. Our farm futures look bright as Linden became the third child to be born into the third generation of our sale family. Not to mention what a time to be in the cattle business with calf prices being better than we’ve ever seen. Butcher bulls are at an all-time high, which gives commercial cattlemen the opportunity to replace their herd sires.
Starwest will be offering their first calf crop off of both Sarcee and Cartel; their two newest polled herd sires. Look to that lineup for high-performance bulls, heifer bulls, and some extra age yearlings. Home polled, polled or horned, the quality runs deep, making it the best offering possibly to date. B Bar C’s pen is diverse with proven genetics. Lots of polled prospects with an impressive group of horned power bulls, including a stand out “Comeback” son. Unfortunately, B Bar C’s trusted herdsire, Goliath, passed away last January, so this will be his last sons to sell.
Both our farms run full herd health programs. All sale bulls are fully vaccinated and have received a multin-min shot. They will be semen checked and fully vet checked for soundness and confirmation prior to the sale. All yearlings are on a full mineral program and we both work closely with nutritionist to balance our rations. One thing we take great pride in is putting longevity and confirmation at the top of our priority list when growing herdsire prospects. All the bulls this year have also been sire verified, and dilutor tested. Dilutor test results will be available upon request.
We look forward to visiting with every one of you on sale day and encourage farm visits prior to the sale. Starwest’s cow herd will also be available for viewing on sale day upon request. The coffee is hot, and our doors are always open. Please join us on sale day for lunch and refreshments and warm hospitality.
Chris Houchin and Christel Harold
This duo of breeders are coming loaded for bear in their 2025 bull sale with a set of herd sires that are straight up outstanding. Exciting times for the B Bar C & Starwest programs going forward as they have a change in venue with it being located at the beautiful Starwest Farm outside of Calmar, AB. Both of these programs are very like minded and have similar breeding philosophies with breeding cattle directly for their customers needs so they can provide the best genetics possible. Changs is inevitable though and after a handful of years of selling with the Kushnerik family at the IAM with the Daines’, we want to thank both of them for the opportunity in working together.
AWESOME is all that comes to mind when analyzing the set of bulls put forth from both of these two breeders. Starwest has their very best set of bulls that they have ever assembled and by a long shot, it is a pen that blows your hair back with multiple outstanding options. They have worked hard at their program for quite some time now investing in the best of the best and it is paying off with a set of production cows that flat out produce and you will notice it in their incredible bull pen. The Houchin family have bred outstanding fullblood cattle for many decades and the amount of repeat buyers there is truly impressive and as high of a percentage as any bull sale we work. That is a true testament of great cattle that work for their customers and is an indication that you should consider shopping at this bull sale to receive strong genetics backed by people that stand behind them.
We got a deep respect for these programs and the set of bulls they have on offer are as good as it gets. We continue to brag on these bulls because they are that good but don’t forget to take a close look at the heifers in the sale too as they carry the same strong genetics and are selected from the top of the keeper pen. We encourage you to join us at the new sale location for an impressive set of bulls and great hospitality from breeders that stand behind their product 100%. If you unfortunately can’t attend, feel free to reach out to either breeder or any of the sales staff to discuss the offering in a professional and confidential manner. We look forward to visiting with you more in Calmar for the B Bar C/Starwest 6th Annual Bull & Female Sale.
Best regards, the Bohrson Marketing team
This is a big-time herdsire prospect right here. With a stunning blood red color, he’s moderateframed and soft-made, carrying thickness all around, especially for a homo polled bull. He has a beautiful front end, with great structure and presence. He hails from a famous cow family and boasts a star-studded pedigree on both the maternal and paternal sides. As a maternal brother to Reputation, known for producing good-uddered females and productive bulls with good foot quality, 346L carries a lot of promise. We flushed his dam, 54C, to Cartel, a Creed son, and have 9 heavily pigmented, eye-appealing fall calves to show for it. A full sister to 346L sold for $25,000 at Friday Night Lights this year, highlighting the family’s elite value. Creed progeny have averaged over $20,000, reinforcing the incredible genetic potential this bull offers for any breeding program.
with a solid build that stands out. As a homozygous polled bull, he’s a great genetic prospect and a bull we feel could be an industry influencer. His sister was one of the choice heifers at FNL, who sold for $21,000 to Pheasantdale Cattle Company. His dam had a fantastic udder and tremendous length, contributing to his strong maternal lineage. Unfortunately, his dam passed away the day I’m writing this. Cartel sons, like 354L are known for their excellent weight gain and great temperaments, making them highly desirable. With unique pigmentation and smooth shoulders, this more moderate-framed superstar offers the perfect balance of growth and ease of calving.

This top horned bull is a standout in the pen, with an attractive head and a dark color so deep it almost looks black. He sports incredible hair and is solid-footed, with the widest build and dimension of any bull here. His dam has become one of our best cows—while she’s not the prettiest, she more than makes up for it with a picture-perfect udder, remarkable depth, and a structurally correct build. She’s a powerhouse, and her genetics shine through in this bull. 3L is as docile as they come, with a super deep middle that gives him excellent capacity. He also has a full brother already on the ground, and he’s looking promising from a very young age, so the potential for consistency is strong in this mating. This bull is sure to add both frame and performance to any program, making him an asset for improving growth and structure.

342L is nothing short of a tank—built with exceptional power, muscle, and presence. He’ll be a head-turner wherever he goes, packed with performance yet he has an awesome length of spine that should make him calve like a dream. He moves effortlessly and his docile temperament makes him as easygoing as they come. His dam is a cow with a large stature and is a maternal sibling to Starwest Pol Blueprint, bringing strong, proven genetics to the table. 342L been Lance’s favorite since the day he was born, and we’re confident his first calf crop will more than pay for himself. His sire, JB CDN Sarcee, has the best foot structure we’ve ever seen and has matured to be nearly 3,000 lbs along with the best temperament of any bull we’ve had. Sarcee resembles his sire to a tee and has the maternal influence of Jason Bruketa’s most cherished herd matron, JB CDN Antebellum. 342L is more than capable of handling a large breeding program, ensuring he’ll get the job done efficiently and consistently year after year.
Starwest SARCEE 340L
We’ve recently started a fall calving program to produce some extra-age bulls, and this year also marks the first Sarcee sons to sell. 340L’s dam is a super dark red, large-framed Fort Knox son we purchased from Anchor D and she has proven to be an excellent addition to our herd. In fact, we currently have four Fort Knox females in production, and we couldn’t be happier with them. The Sarcee sons are steady, consistent gainers with really good feet, and we expect them to be biggerframed as they mature, making them an exciting prospect for any breeding program.

Spitfire sons have always been known for their impressive muscle definition, large scrotal size, great hair, and ease of travel, and longevity. His daughters have some of the best udders in the industry, a hallmark of his maternal strength. Spitfire adds frame and pounds to his calves while calving like a dream, making him an excellent choice for both growth and calving ease. This stylish, deep-middled bull possesses great eye appeal, with heavy pigmentation that enhances his striking appearance. NUG 448B is a big-performance cow, known for her large frame and impressive stature. As 448L continues to mature, we anticipate he’ll develop into a larger-framed bull, further solidifying his potential for producing high-performance offspring. His combination of style, size, and performance makes him the right type to produce replacement worthy daughters.
pol SARCEE 347L
347L is big-framed and round-muscled, carrying a small, attractive head with a clean front end, making him visually appealing. His dam was a farm favorite, and she made a significant impact, being the high-selling bred heifer in the 2014 Equation Sale. She also produced a son who sold to MAVV Farms , yielding productive daughters for their program. To date, Rieda has only ever had one daughter, which we’ve retained in the herd. Rieda represents the type of cow we wish we could have a whole herd of—powerful, productive, and built to last. All those traits make 347L a valuable addition to any program.
This bull is out of one of our original BC cows, a highly productive female from Boisvert who has been a cornerstone of our program. While he weaned off a little light this year, it’s important to note that his dam is older, and this will be her last calf. Despite this, she has raised herdsires in the past, proving her worth as a consistent, reliable producer. Though this bull has some catching up to do, he’s expected to mature into a dependable breeding stock with great potential, carrying on the legacy of his powerful lineage.
314L stands out in the pen with his big feet and impressive hair coat, showcasing exceptional mass and performance. With a length of spine that contributes to his overall size, 314L boasts the highest Average Daily Gain in the pen, making him a pen favourite in terms of growth and development. He is incredibly docile,
100L is a pen pet, having been raised as a bottle baby, which has given him a very kind and personable nature. He’s as soggy and hairy as they come, with a masculine look and the presence of a true herdsire. His rate of gain has been impressive, showcasing his genetic potential for growth. His dam was an Eagle Eye female, bringing in Spitfire genetics once again, ensuring a strong maternal influence. Upon closer examination, it’s clear that he’s structurally sound, making him the type of bull that’s highly desired by the Commercial Industry. With his combination of good temperament, solid structure, and performance, he’s set to make a real impact.
606L is a bit of a sleeper in the pen, but don’t let that fool you—he has a lot of potential. His dam is a small, hardworking cow who gets the job done without any issues, consistently producing solid calves. His pedigree is full of proven lineage, taking the guesswork out of his genetic potential. Rambo sons, like him, are known for their strong bone structure, tons of hair, and soft, easy-going make, which makes them great for both performance and longevity. He weaned off heavy and has continued to gain steadily, showing great growth potential. This bull may be a sleeper now, but he’s got the traits to make an impact down the road.
016L is hairy and big-boned, with large feet that provide solid structure. His dam is a young cow with a deep, pear-shaped body, bringing both maternal strength and good breeding potential. With his solid build and genetic background, he’s expected to be a hardworking bull who will perform well in various conditions and travel easily. His combination of muscle and frame will make him a valuable addition to any program, capable of producing durable offspring.
523M is a younger bull in the pen who comes from strong cow families. His dam is a Spitfire female, known for her perfect udder, a trait that the Spitfire progeny is notorious for. This bull is expected to be a good, honest performer, with calves that will bring in the weight and enhance herd profitability. His sire, SBV Rambo, is a big-boned performance herd sire, further ensuring that this bull will inherit strong growth and structural traits, making him a valuable addition to any
RAMBO 412M
412M is the darker of the two twins and was raised by a first-calf heifer who unfortunately lost her calf. As one of the younger bulls in the pen, he’s still growing into his frame but is already showing promise. When fully matured, he’ll be a bull with lots of length, adding stretch and scale to his offspring. His calves are sure to push the scale down, bringing growth potential. Overall, he’s an honest bull, with good fundamentals and the kind of genetics that will help improve any program.
This is the first son out of our homozygous polled bull, and he’s shaping up to be a nice bull with his moderate frame and sogginess. His dark red coat adds to his appeal, while his dam, a Magnum daughter we purchased as an open heifer from Beechinors, brings productive genetics to the table. NGDB Griffin, was bred to big, powerful horned cows to help moderate their birth weights, and he’s done a tremendous job calving, ensuring this bull is easy-calving and will get the job done.

The bull is deep through the middle, with a more flat muscle expression that adds to his overall balance. CKCW 127J is a daughter out of a donor cow, who is an absolute monster—an incredibly powerful, high-performing female. This bull comes from a heavy milking family, known for their fertility. He’s the perfect combination of calving ease and power genetics, making him an ideal choice for improving both birth weights and performance in the next generation. With sound structure and the right kind of body shape, this bull is built for long-term success.
Starwest ULYSSES 321L
Even with quite a variety of genetics, our bull pen is consistently made up of soggy, deep-bodied bulls, and 321L is no exception. He’s got lots of hair, a deep middle, and a sweet temperament that makes him a pleasure to work with. His dam is a hard-working cow with proven genetics, and we have a real fondness for Precision females. 321L will be larger framed once fully matured, but even now, he’s well balanced, with the right combination of muscle, structure, and growth potential. He’s a bit of a different type from the rest of the pen, but that only adds to his unique appeal, making him a strong, reliable prospect for any breeding program.
361L comes from one of our favorite cows from the Ferme Gagnon program, a proven producer with a stellar pedigree. A maternal sister to 361L sold to Francis Gagnon in the 2023 Simpower Sale, and we’ve retained two other maternal sisters who are working in our herd. His dam, Lady Siska, is a big-framed, long-bodied cow who consistently produces bulls, making her a reliable matron to put a son in the sale pen. We purchased Ulysses as a mature herdsire from Anchor D after seeing the type of progeny he produces, and 361L is a perfect example of Ulysses’ genetic influence. Ulysses offspring are known for their hair, loose hides, big frames, and nice, small birthweights—traits that this bull will pass on, making him a valuable addition to any program.
460L comes from a really strong donor cow family that traces back to the legendary 181T, a cow who has had a lasting impact on the Mark Land & Cattle Program. Lenny has been a stickler for selling daughters out of 181T, and 460G has proven to be a reliable producer. His dam is moderate-framed but as deep-barreled as they come—small in stature but mighty in performance. When you combine the genetics of 181T with those of 54C, you’re looking at a bull with stacked, high-performance genetics. 460L might be the sleeper in the pen, but he’s one to watch.
We’ve had the privilege of incorporating some of the best from Nickel’s impressive fullblood herd, one of the most outstanding we’ve seen. We were fortunate to select six of their top fullblood cows. The three bulls in this sale offering have explosive growth, great frame size, and strong feet, making them an excellent foundation for any breeding program. Their beautiful pigmentation and length further enhance their appeal. Outlook, a proven calving ease bull, brings reliability and consistency to the mix. Kansas was a newly acquired herd sire for Nickels and was a top bull in the 2023 Maxwell Bull Sale. Additionally, Hudson, their trusted mature herd sire purchased from Mike Imler, has been consistent in producing some of their best fullblood calves over the years, solidifying his reputation as a reliable contributor to their top-tier genetics.

A rare opportunity here to acquire a mature herdsire. Griffon was our first homo polled herdsire, a strategic addition to our program. His primary purpose was to moderate birthweight on our larger performance horned cows while adding style and refinement to our calves. Our good friends at Bar M Simmentals have his paternal brother, and we’ve been impressed with his success—one of his daughters sold for $15,000, and his first bull crop averaged just shy of $15,000. Griffon has a calm, quiet demeanor, making him easy to work with. He’s smooth-muscled with a clean front end, and his offspring inherit his great pigmentation and moderate birthweights. The reason for selling is simple: we have too many herdsires and didn’t utilize him enough last year, so we feel he would be a better fit for someone who can maximize his potential.

Maverick is the type of bull we look for as a herdsire. If not so related it may have been option. His dam is part of the largest cow family we have. Maverick is long, well balanced with a thick top. An easy-going disposition completes the package.
B
Mandate is a beast. Imagine a pen of steers this guy could sire. And the females should all stay home in the keeper pen. He’s from an always producing cow line, his dam is a full sister to Deidra 109D, dam of Lot 3 (9L). Mandate is loosehided and deep ribbed, with a big foot that matches his size.
Molekai
Michelob is just like his name, smooth and a little lighter weight. His dam is a beautiful cow with an immaculate udder. She has 2 daughters in the herd and a son in Manitoba. Michelob is polled and smooth shouldered, built for calving ease.
DORA
Maddox is also Corb’s. Very related to Lot 31 as grand dams are full sisters and dams are half-sisters or better. Maddox is well muscled with a good top. Again, he should sire some really good replacements. Corbin lost his dam after weaning out in pasture, so this is the one and only.
Mapperton is our only son from our herd sire Hugo this year. Hugo has been used exclusively in our heifer pen with great success. Calves comes easily and thrifty. Mappertons dam is a smaller frame cow with similar pigment to 31M. she hs another polled bull calf for 2025. Mapperton is polled, smooth shouldered and built for calving ease. He may be a candidate for the heifer pen.
Mephisto has the cool color of his sire Goliath. He is brown with black undertones. His dam, Diamond is a big volume Titan daughter that has put bulls in the sale before. 2 at MGM Cattle and another at Thorson Cattle. Mephisto should be a heifer maker for the replacement pen. Diamond has a solid
for 2025, Finally!!
Marshall is as dark and hairy as they come. Similar cow line to Lot 6 (18L). The Cody daughters are consistent producers. Ebony has put multiple bulls in the sale, 1 at Erskine Farming, another at Weston Magenson. One daughter in the herd and a solid red polled bull calf for 2025.
Matlock is our only homo polled bull this year. this cow family has produced many bulls for our sale, but one I wish we only got heifers from; always in the keeper pen and always at the top. A full sister to Matlock in the herd and another on the ground for 2025. Superb haircoat with good dimension.
