2019 CANADIAN NATIONAL SHOW & SALE Les Kroeger Show & Sale Committee Chair On behalf of the Canadian Bison Association (CBA) National Show and Sale committee, I would like to welcome everyone to the 2019 CBA National Show and Sale. Interest continues to be strong for this event as it is a great opportunity for producers to add high quality genetics to their herd. We are again working with the great crew at DLMS to video the bison prior to the show. The sale day video screen is available for live and online bidding & viewing for those who are not able to attend. We will assist any buyers with finding transportation and temporary accommodation for animals purchased by buyers from greater distances. Again, we would like to welcome the Brennin Jack Auction Group for conducting the sale. The 2019 National Show and Sale promises to bring some of the best bison breeding stock and genetics available for producers to enhance new and existing farms and ranches.

Judges Phil Staden, Staden Farms- Mannville, AB Phil and his wife, Josie and their family, operate Staden Farms, where they run beef, bison and grain operations. Phil has had a lifelong passion for livestock and has been lucky enough to be involved with beef, bison, elk and horses his entire life. Staden Farms entered the bison business in 1992 and Phil has been involved with the industry as President of the BPA, Chair of the IBC 2000 and as a past judge of the Wild Rose Show. Phil is looking forward to and honored to judge at Agribition. He is trying to learn from his 4-H and youth judging grandson how to relay his instinctive eye for livestock into words! He is hoping his grandson Matthew will join him at Agribition to help him with that!

Garrett Brown, Nyssa OR Established in 1972, Brown's Buffalo Ranch is now a 3rd generation bison ranch operated by Garrett and K'Dean Brown. Garrett and K'Dean, along with his parents Tim and Debbie, run 150 cow/calf pairs on 4 separate ranches. Garrett judged the Western Bison Association's show and sale in 2010 and 2011. The ranch has competed in several show and sales including taking home grand champion honors at both the Western and the Northwest bison show and sales. Most recently Garrett and K'Dean were the recipients of the 2019 Rookie of the Year award at the GTSS in Denver.

Banner Bison Ranch Banner Bidon Ranch is located just outside Melville, SK and is owned by Payton Molnar, daughter of Jerry & Kim Molnar (Braveheart Bison Ranch). I have grown up in the bison industry and in 2015 I became a proud 3rd generation bison producer by purchasing 12 heifers from Allen Shwitzer, Checotah Bison Ranch, who was premier breeder in 1997. In 2019 I decided to expand my herd and purchased another 50 choice cows from Checotah Bison Ranch. Being a young female producer I have a huge passion for bison. I am super excited to be a rookie at CNSS this year and look forward to growing my knowledge and herd while meeting new producers!

Beldon Bison Ranch Beldon Bison Ranch has been raising and showing top quality bison since 1987. With bloodlines from some of the top ranches in western Canada we are proud to be raising a diverse range of breeding stock. We have had great success over the past few years at the Canadian Bison Bull Draft with bulls placing in the top 5. The bulls presented here at Agribition have been on the same feed and care program as has been used for the Canadian Bison Bull Draft. We would like to thank past buyers and are looking forward to forging relationships with new buyers. Give Nathan a call at 306-812-7092 if you have any questions or would like to stop by, our door is always open to visitors.

Big Country Bison Our bison herd was started in 1996 with the purchase of 10 heifer calves from the Schwitzers. The herd has now grown to over 245 females in 4 separate herds. We are continually improving the quality of our herd by making select purchases of top quality breeding stock and meticulously selecting females out of our own herd. We are both proud and excited to be involved in the bison industry and see a very bright future for this industry in the upcoming years.

Bison Ridge Farms Bison Ridge Farms is owned and operated by Denver and Becky Johnson and is located near Prince Albert, SK on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. As we strive to regenerate our soil and the way we farm, adding bison seemed like the perfect fit. Integrating bison into our neighboring family grain farm of over 20 years has allowed us to grow our own quality feed, improve soil health, and utilize a diverse landscape. Our goal is to produce and raise quality Wood bison and we are very proud of the breeding stock that has been selected to make up our herd. Our bulls bring genetics from RJ Bison Ranch and Viking Bison. Check us out at www.bisonridgefarms.com, give us a call, or stop by if you’re in the area!

Borderland Agriculture Brooks and Jen White Box 288, Pierson Manitoba Canada R0M 1S0. At Borderland, we focus on Regenerative Agriculture by incorporating bison production into a highly diverse cropping system. Our bison are the key component to our vison of improving soil health. We utilize their natural hardiness in our #graze365 program and have come to realize that healthy soil = healthy animals = nutrient dense food. With this vision, we were 6

recently recognized in the 2018 Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers Program. Our breeding program has been successful in Canadian and now US shows and we are excited to offer the first yearling bull from our select herd sired by 30:30. These bulls are performance tested at facebook.com/bisonbootcamp. Discover our world at www.borderlandagiculture.com

Flying I Bison Flying I Bison Ranch was started in 1996 with 25 pure Plains cows and 2 pure Plains bulls from Tatonka Ranch. Today we are a 3rd Generation Ranch with a herd of 130 Plains and a handful of cross cows with 2 Ranch Grown Plains Bulls and 3 Plains bulls (Wolverine, Jumpoff and Rocky Meadow). We raise our herd as close to nature as possible. They roam the prairie grass in the summer and get free choice hay in the winter months. Find us on FaceBook at Flying I Bison Ranch or stop by for a visit.

Irish Creek Bison Justin and Shaelyn Dorey Irish Creek Bison is a family owned and operated ranch near Vermilion, Alberta that focuses on proven genetics and quality breeding stock. We run four separate herds to ensure a variety of strong bloodlines. We have breeding bulls and bred heifers available for purchase. Our bison are selected and culled based on gain -ability on grass and reproductive longevity. We are passionate about healthy herds and healthy pastures. Visit www.irishcreekbison.com for more information on our ranch and our animals.

Paradigm Bison Inc. Paradigm Bison is a family run farm located by Herdon, Sk. In 2015, we decided to grow our grain farm by introducing Plains bison. We have since been slowly growing our herd by selecting from known breeders in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Our herd choices were based on confirmation, calving, and style. Paradigm’s herd are easy keepers who thrive year-round on grass and mineral while, winter months provided high quality hay. This has maintained our herd to produce healthy calves. At paradigm we strive to produce the best quality animals that will enhance any one’s herd and their bottom line. For more information Paradigm can be contacted at paradigmbison@outlook.com

Prairieland Bison Prairieland Bison is located southwest of Hodgeville, Saskatchewan and is owned and operated by Cole & Shelby Haubrich and their sons, Davis and Cohen. We have been a part of the industry since 2011 and run a cow/ calf operation consisting of Wood X and pure Wood animals. In order to improve our breeding genetics we have purchased bulls from top producers at National and Provincial Show & Sales. We select our best females for replacement heifers. Recently we have started a small feedlot with Notekeu Creek Game Farm that consists of 300-400 head. We are proud bison producers and are committed to improving the industry. We are pleased to have the opportunity to participate in the CNSS again this year! Thank you to all the buyers who have purchased from us over the years.

Rocky Meadow Bison Rocky meadow bison was established in 2003 when an opportunity to purchase a small group of plains heifers came along while working in Drayton valley AB shortly after graduating high school. These heifers were then briefly boarded at the Orvall Enge ranch in Margo SK until a fence was constructed on a small piece of my grandfather’s land that was too rough for grain farming. When these original heifers left Margo, they came with 2 of Orvall’s bulls, and this group along with additional heifer purchases from the Orcheskis of Buffalo Hill Ranch would form the core of our foundation herd. Over time, the herd has evolved into a very uniform group of 80 extremely docile, thick, consistently productive plains females. A good portion of our current cow herd consists of our own home grown replacements that were meticulously selected for conformation and along with consideration for their dam’s productive history. These bison are my pride and joy! And they get to live an extremely low stress life and are very happy to be rotationally grazed in 3 separate breeding groups throughout the summer months. With continued efforts to focus on herd and pasture management, I am very encouraged by the steady progress of improvement. Raising bison is my passion! And as always, I am very excited to attend the CBA convention and participate in the show and sale!

Shale Creek Bison Ranch Shale Creek Bison Ranch is located just outside of Russell, MB and is owned and operated by Jamie & Debbie and our 2 daughters Danielle & Tara. Our herd is 80% breeding stock which was selected from shows and sales across Canada. We have been very successful at many show & sales and very proud of what we have accomplished. We were very successful in 2010 with our animals being awarded the Grand Champion Male, Female and Reserve Champion Female at the Great Spirit Show & Sale in Brandon MB. At the 2012 CNSS in Regina SK, our yearling heifers won Gold & Silver trophies with our Gold heifer being awarded Grand Champion Female. In 2015 we went to the NBA Gold Trophy show in Denver, CO for our first time. The yearling heifer we took won Gold. Also at the 2015 Great Spirit sale we won the Yearling Heifer class as well as Grand Champion Yearling Heifer. The largest honour yet for our ranch has been chosen as the Bill Lenton award winner for at the 2017 MBA Convention. We welcome anyone to come and visit our ranch so we can show you our animals.

Silver Creek Bison Ranch Silver Creek Bison first purchased bison in 1988 and currently run 1800 head. We run a cow/calf through to finishing program and keep close records throughout to select for our breeding program. Over the years we have moved the majority of the breeding to Wood X bulls on the Wood X cows to improve conformation, carcass yield, and other carcass traits. We run a herd of pure Wood and a herd of pure Plains to supply seedstock to other producers. If you are in our area please stop in, we would be glad to show you around.

Tatonka Ranch Tatonka Ranch of Melville SK has been ion the Bison Industry for 33 years. The ranch is currently running 5 single sire pastures to develop a breeding program for animals with good conformati0n and good gain ability on grass and in feedlot situations. The Ranch has a genetic battery of Plains, Wood and Wood Cross animals. Love to talk Bison. Stop in at the Ranch anytime!
