McMahon Angus Bull Sale - Mankota, SK

Page 1

Welcome

It’s my pleasure on behalf of all of us here at McMahon Colony to invite you all to our 2nd Annual Red and Black Angus Bull Sale. A huge thank you to all bidders and buyers that made our 1st sale last year a huge success. Although these genetics aren’t new to the sale ring, with over 25 years of backed up genetics on the Black side thanks to Glen and Darla Briere of Glendar Angus. They allowed us to purchase their heard 2 years ago and we are grateful. On the red side, even though there’s maybe only a hand full or so on offer, these genetics were bought out of the Running JR herd and go back to the legendary Flying K Ranch. So with the good Lord as Captain, we feel these genetics will carry us to unimaginable heights.

Consider this an invitation to join us at Mankota Stockmen Exchange to see the bulls and have a meet and greet. This young set of bulls we will bring to town in hopes to appeal to the most discriminating cattle producer. We strongly recommend these bulls come back to McMahon after the sale free of charge until May 1st where they will continue to be developed for their 1st year of breeding. We truly feel how a bull is fed in his 1st and 2nd year will greatly predict his future for many years of breeding.

Thanks again to the Brieres and Josh Rempel and families for all you guys have done over the last couple years. We would also like to thank our wonderful neighbors and Francis for helping out with grass the last few years. Thank you to Sarah and crew for pictures and videos on a -30 below day. And to all you guys here at McMahon, I thank you. I’m truly blessed to have such spectacular help daily. And last but not least, to all of you who I forgot to mention, you probably deserve a gold star more than anybody else.

Best Regards,

McMahon ANGUS BULL SALE

Our Program

As with any mission we endeavor on her at McMahon, we trust in the good Lord to captain it. Without him blessin our mission, it’s mission impossible.

We would like to explain a little of what we strive for in our cow herd. We feel once you get to know a breeder’s program it’s easier to source herd bulls, we strive to produce moderate, hard working cows. Our pastures do not consist of knee high alfalfa/brome grass, we save the land for cereals and pulses. The pastures are made up of waste land that is unable to be farmed which allows us to have multiple breeding fields to run the bulls separatley.

We expect our herd bulls to walk the talk and get the cows bred in a 50 day breeding window naturally. We do not incorporate the use of AI or ET technology, so we let the top cows rise to the top on their own. It is important to us that the cows wean a high percentage of their body weight while rebreeding, the bar has been set and they must produce. Breeding for calving ease without sacraficing growth with sound feet and udders is a must. The calves are never fed creep as we want to know the cows’ true production ability. Supportive feed will add additional weight to the calves so comparing calves that have received different management scenarios is not a fair assessment. It is important to evaluate herds in the manner in which they were raised during the first year of their life. With that we look to source our genetics from breeders which share the same mentality and goals as we do for long term success. We feed out all of our own cattle so we are very much aware that good feed covers bad warts.

It is also of our intention to bring some show/tell females to the sale to give a better understanding of our genetics and how the female side of the cattle turn out. We feel the cow is the major factor in the genetics and worth more than half of the herd sire(s) you select. Whether or not our program fits yours, we look forward to visiting in the future.

NOTES

Bull WARRANTY

We guarantee to provide you with a sound, fertile bull capable of servicing a reasonable number of cows. In the event that your bull is a non-satisfactory breeder, the seller will not, under any circumstances, be responsible for more than the original selling price of any bull sold in the sale. The consignors will not provide replacement or credit for physical injury or missmanagement. Therefore we stress the importance of insurance on your bull. An insurance agent will be available sale day.
