THE JAMAICA-MADE MARK “Representing bona fide Jamaican INFORMATION SHEET
THE JAMAICA-MADE MARK PROGRAMME Under the Standards Act of 1969 and the Standards Regulations of 1983, the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) has the power to grant the use of Standard Marks (Certification Marks) to companies that demonstrate that their commodities, processes and practices conform to standard specifications. In keeping with its mandates, to increase competitiveness, facilitate trade and protect consumers, the BSJ, established The Jamaica-Made Mark Programme in accordance with section 9 of the Standards Act. This mark not only indicates that product(s) conform to established national/international standard(s) but also indicates that these product(s) contain a minimum of fifty-one percent (51 %) Jamaican raw material or seventy percent (70%) Jamaican input. The Jamaica-Made Mark Programme is a voluntary conformity assessment programme available to all manufacturers of authentic Jamaican products. Options under the programme include: 1. Product Certification (Option 1): This is applicable to goods that are produced using processes that deliver consistent and uniform products which conform to Jamaica-Made Mark (JMM) specified requirements. Certification is granted for two (2) years. 2. Batch Certification (Option 2): This refers to the certification of a single batch of a product. A certificate will be issued for that batch which conforms to JMM specified requirements.
WHAT IS THE JAMAICA-MADE MARK?
The Jamaica-Made Mark is a mark of quality that is used to distinguish certified authentic Jamaican products. The Jamaica-Made Mark is awarded by the BSJ where specified requirements are fulfilled. All manufacturers of authentic Jamaican products have the right to apply for the use of the mark.
