Voice Memos and Mac Podcasts Integration Workshop What are they? Voice memos and podcasts are exactly as they sound. A recording of your voice that can be played back. It is simply an mp3 file just like a music file. With today’s portable technology, the possibilities for voice memos are endless. You can record the reading of a passage and save it for reading comprehension assessments, use it for ESOL students, sounds for writing prompts, and more. Think of it as an old style radio show. The best part about it? You can publish your podcasts and your students can “subscribe” to them so they can get automatic updates.

How can I make one? Ipod touch/iPhone • Within the apps choose “Voice Memos” • Press the record button to record your memo • Choose >File >Get info— to change the name of the file for ease of searching and indexing • Options—choose your media type to “music” • Shows up under your playlist under voice memos Blackberry or phone • Most phones are capable of recording audio messages • Applications list—on a blackberry the app is called “Voice Notes” • Send the file via email to get onto your computer, sync your device with the cable, or save the file to the memory card • Use a bluetooth device with your phone to record voice notes. This opens up possibilities of annotating a lecture while going through the slideshow, recording an interview, reading a story, describing an exercise, etc. Other Recording Devices • Any device that can record your voice can be used to make a podcast including your computer with a microphone, video cameras, voice recorders, dictation devices, etc. • You just need to be able to take the files from the device and put them onto your computer
