Dear Alumni & Friends, While addressing Cayuga’s Board of Trustees recently, Dr. DeCinque said “We always need to be preparing for our future, while respecting our past.” A very fitting statement for the current circumstances surrounding CCC. As the college says goodbye to Dr. DeCinque, I’m pleased to say that his departure, while bittersweet, leaves us with many visible improvements on both Mary Kriever ’09 of our campuses; and as you read in his Director of “farewell” note, he is leaving us in “very good Alumni Affairs hands” with the arrival of our new president Dr. Brian M. Durant. On the Alumni Association front, our Board Members and the Alumni Office continue to be actively involved with many alumni and college events. We are very pleased to feature our 2015 Alumni Award winners, Bruce G. Burton ’66 and Heidi L. Huddleston Cross ’97, and share some of the other activities we’ve been involved in since last spring. With the arrival of fall we look forward to continuing our “Alumni Voices” presentations and some of our newer activities like our Alumni, Family & Friend’s nights. As the college works towards a prosperous future, the Alumni Association will look to provide new supportive programs while preserving our traditions and “respecting our past.” ~Mary Kriever ’09
The Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees has announced the selection of its new president; Dr. Brian M. Durant will be the ninth president in the College’s history. Durant will take over for Dr. Gregory T. DeCinque who has served as Interim President since December 2013. “Brian Durant is the right person at the right time for Cayuga Community College,” said Dr. DeCinque. “Having spent the past 18 months Dr. Brian M. as Interim President, I know that Brian will be Durant a perfect fit with the Cayuga family.” CCC President Brian Durant most recently served as Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at SUNY Adirondack. He completed his doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University, and earned a Master of Science in Education from The College of Saint Rose. “Brian is young and energetic and will fit right in at Cayuga,” said Jeffrey L. Edwards, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

ALUMNI GREETINGS FROM THE ALUMNI PRESIDENT Dear College Alumni and Friends, This year has brought many changes to the college community. Dr. Greg DeCinque, the interim President, stepped down in August after much hard work and dedication; and Dr. Brian M. Durant, has been hired as the College’s new president. In the CCCC Foundation office, Guy Cosentino has been hired as their new director. The Association would like to thank Ted Herrling ’72 Dr. DeCinque for his leadership, hard work, and friendship in helping to make CCC such a great educational facility. We also would like to welcome Dr. Durant and Mr. Cosentino to the college community; the Alumni Association is looking forward to working with both of you to meet the future’s challenges. The ACC/CCC Alumni Association has had an active year providing many programs and activities, and I would like to thank the board members of the Association for their continued support and expertise in providing existing and new programs and services. Many thanks go to Mary Kriever ‘09, our Association Director, who has been vital in helping to keep our programs running smoothly. I would also like to thank the Foundation, and the staff and students of CCC for their never ending support.
Most of all I would like to thank all of you who continue to donate to our Association. We have a great Alumni Association and your funding helps us to continue with our programs. Alumni meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month from September through May, and we welcome your participation. As I complete my tenure with the ACC/CCC Alumni Association, I would like to give a special thanks to my fellow board members for helping to make my time serving as President most enjoyable. The CCC Alumni Association hosted a weekend in Washington, D.C. for alumni and friends from April 24-26. On Friday the group spent time touring Udvar-Hazy National Air and Space Museum. This museum has many historical including the Travelers enjoyed a private tour air/spacecraft, of the Udvar-Hazy National Air & Enola Gay and the Space Shuttle Space Museum. Discovery. The group was on their own the rest of the weekend to explore the many sites D.C. has to offer. Our hotel, the Cambria Suites, was located close to the Metro, but it was also within easy walking distance of the National Mall. The weather on Saturday was cool but nice for walking the National Mall. Sunday was sunny and warmer. Over the two days, people visited the many Smithsonian museums, the National Memorials, Trip Escort Fred Falsey ’76 by the Capitol Building, the Botanical the Capital Building Gardens, the National Zoo and much more. Alumni Award winner Bruce Burton attended ACC following his return from military service as a platoon leader in Vietnam. He quickly discovered his interest in international affairs. He attended Syracuse University; and was selected into the Foreign Service. For more than two decades as an American diplomat, he witnessed history as it was being made. He started in the Carter Administration as a political officer reporting on Bruce G. Burton ’72 human rights in Paraguay, then began working on arms control and security issues in Europe. In the early 1980s while NATO was locked in the last great political-military struggle with the Soviet Union, Burton worked many long days and negotiating sessions to counter Soviet efforts to split the Alliance. In the late 1980s, Bruce served as U.S. Deputy Director of Soviet Affairs. In this role he coordinated preparations in Washington for many high-level meetings between Secretary of State George Shultz and his Soviet counterpart, as well as the series of ReaganGorbachev summits in Geneva, Reykjavik, Washington and Moscow. Future assignments in London and Tel Aviv kept Burton in the center of world events. As head of the political section at the embassy in London, he helped coordinate policy with our closest ally on a range of global issues and was eyewitness to momentous developments: the end of communism in Europe, the fall of Margaret Thatcher, the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the reunification of Germany, and the First Gulf War. From London, Burton traveled to Tel Aviv where he said working with the Israelis and Palestinians was especially complex. Bruce retired from the State Department but still serves as Senior Advisor for the Office of eDiplomacy. It includes online communities, a department wide wiki, blogs, traditional websites, virtual outreach initiatives and much more. Bruce’s wife Amy Burton ’66 has been his partner in all of his career assignments and successes.
Heidi was selected as an Alumni Award winner for the outstanding contributions she continues to make in her volunteer work and in the field of nursing. She has received many honors including the Great Comebacks Ostomy Nurse of the Year Award, the Presidential Award from the WOCN Certification Board, and was twice the winner of the WOCN Certification Board Scholarship to the Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI). Cross was recipient of a research grant and received a Community Service Heidi L. Huddleston Mentor award. Heidi was chosen Cross ’97 as Nurse of the Year by the United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA). Cross has served on several committees, including being the chairperson of the WOCN Certification Board Exam Committee. She has been published in several journals, including a Best Practice Document on “Discharge Planning for the Ostomy Patient,” and was involved in getting a legislative bill passed in New York State requiring coverage of ostomy supplies in 2014. In 2009 Heidi traveled with an Upstate New York medical team to South Sudan on a 10-day mission to teach nursing and wound care to physicians and nurses at the Duk Payuel Lost Boys Clinic. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing, magna cum laude, from Syracuse University; a master’s degree in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from SUNY Upstate Medical University. Heidi works at Upstate University Hospital as a Nurse Practitioner in inpatient and outpatient wound and ostomy care. She is a Nurse Practitioner with CNY Surgical Physicians consulting on wound care for long-term care facilities. Heidi and her husband live in Skaneateles, where they raised their four children, and is most proud of her eight “wonderful and beautiful” grandchildren.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PARTICIPATES AT 2015 COMMENCEMENT The CCC Alumni Association was on hand for this year’s Commencement Ceremony in May. Association President Ted Herrling ’72 spoke at the event to welcome the more than 540 new alumni. Associate Vice President of the Fulton Campus and board secretary John Lamphere ’74 greeted our newest alums as they exited the stage. ALUMNI NEWS CAYUGA CC ALUMNI ASSOCIATION AWARDS NINE SCHOLARSHIPS The Auburn/Cayuga Community College Alumni Association has awarded nine scholarships to new, continuing, nontraditional age, and transferring Cayuga students for the 2015-16 academic year. Bethany C. Nelson ’12 followed her passion for Latin American Studies all the way to Nicaragua. She now works for a nonprofit organization which provides programs for the local community in El Sauce. Bethany Nelson with her host mom.
EDUCATING THE MIND AND HEART Hello CCC Friends, Upon graduation from Cayuga, I went on to SUNY Geneseo and earned a BA degree in Spanish with a minor in Latin American Studies. I spent a semester abroad in the City of Córdoba, Argentina where I studied Spanish in the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC). Upon returning to the States, I assisted in the Study Abroad office where I completed an internship following my graduation in May 2014. My work as an intern in the fields of program development and marketing combined with my passions for travel and Latin American culture led me to where I am today - Nicaragua. I currently live in the small city of El Sauce where I work for Enlace Project, a small New York State based non-profit organization. We work with the local community on a wide array of programs that are focused on community and economic development, as well as run

Study Abroad and Volunteer programs for our partners in the US. My responsibilities with the Enlace Project are as Coordinator of Media/ Marketing, English teacher and Assistant Coordinator of Educational and Volunteer Trips. I participate in interactive projects such as the building of primary schools in needy rural communities, run educational study abroad programs with our partnering universities, support the development of entrepreneurial businesses in El Sauce and teach English. Living in El Sauce has impacted my life in so many ways that I am convinced I am destined to have a career in international travel and education. Witnessing firsthand the amazing impact of philanthropic work and devoting my labor to helping others grow, learn, and develop is extremely rewarding. To learn more about my work at Enlace Project,

One of my English professors at CCC, Jo Ann Fox-Wright, once shared an Aristotle quote with me that states, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” She encouraged my classmates and me to strive to love what we study so that we can apply what we learn to what we love to do. Well Professor Fox-Wright, thank you! I not only have followed your lead; but with those same ideals, I now lead my own students toward happiness and success. CCC FOUNDATION THANK YOU INTERIM FOUNDATION EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS As the Foundation Board welcomes its new executive director Guy Cosentino, they would like to thank its two interim executive directors who assisted in the Foundation office during the search. Kurt Kramer served for nine weeks beginning in February. His role was to continue the day-to-day operations of the Foundation and help the Board organize a search for the new full-time executive director. Kurt came on board after retiring with 33 years of YMCA experience. Most recently he served Kurt Kramer as the CEO of the Auburn YMCA-WEIU for six years. Due to a schedule change on his impending move to Gettysburg, Mr. Kramer was unable to continue as interim. Foundation Board Member Gail Homick Herrling ’62 agreed to step down from the Foundation Board in order to fill the role
as interim executive director. As you read in our spring issue of Spartan, Gail is an alumna of Auburn Community College and was a recipient of the 2012 ACC/CCC Alumni Award. Through her community involvement, Gail has served the public in personal, professional and volunteer leadership roles. She served on the Board of Directors for United Way of Cayuga County for nearly 30 years, holding the position of President and Chair of the Public Relations Committee. She was Gail Homick appointed Executive Director in 2006 and Herrling ’62 retired from the United Way in 2010. The Board graciously thanks both Kurt and Gail for their help and dedication in tending to the daily operations of the Foundation during this time.

COLLEGE FULTON NEWS FROM THE ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT Greetings from the River Glen Campus! It has been one full year since I wrote to all of you boasting of the changes happening at River Glen, and since that time we have not stopped. I use the word ‘we’, for this is a collaborative effort involving all the employees of this campus, and many on the main campus in Auburn. As a matter of fact, I feel I shall use the word ‘we’ throughout this report, as we are all with this college! We have a new CCC President in Dr. Brian John Lamphere ’74 Durant, and from my involvement with him I can tell you that I have every bit of confidence that he will not only be a good one, but will be here for some time to come. And while we all need to greet him and dedicate our full support, we also need to give our sincere thanks to outgoing interim president, Dr. Greg DeCinque. His outstanding work has placed us on very firm ground, and Brian will only continue with this premise in his own way. I look forward to the 2015 – 2016 Academic Year. As promised, we have been working on new classes, and this year welcomes our first LPN group of thirty-four students with our new collaboration with the College and CiTi (BOCES) under Executive Dean Carla DeShaw. We are working on creating another nursing lab for their use which, along with our highly successful RN program and the upcoming Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant program, will help to address the health needs of Oswego County. We are also working on a Health Cluster of four other programs that we hope to initiate in the near future in conjunction with Workforce Development. For 2015, we have created a dedicated Criminal Justice instructional room and with the new equipment purchased for it, will enhance what I have always known is a tremendous program (aside from the fact I have my degree in it, worked in law enforcement for 27 years and instructed it for 14…. nah, no prejudice there!). I wish I could say more as to this, but cannot as we are hard at work on three projects of immense potential. I can state that I believe in the next letter to you I will be able to say more, and when I do it will change the face of the River Glen Campus. I stated in my last address that ‘We have been here over twenty years and for some reason we continue to be the best kept secret in Oswego County. …but that is changing fast!’ Those words were not lip service; we are changing, we intend to make everyone aware of who we are, and will continue to be an anchor and leader in Oswego County. There are a lot of Cayuga Community College graduates who attended any one of the four sites we have had in Oswego County, and you have a lot to be proud of. If you have never set foot on the River Glen Campus, I suggest you stop by. If you graduated from here, come back and visit. The lights are on and the doors are open. EARTH DAY Earth Day has been observed worldwide on April 22 since 1990. Founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day was first organized in 1970 to promote ecology and respect for life on the planet as well as to encourage awareness of the growing problems of air, water and soil pollution. A large FLASH BACK group gathered on the Fulton Campus to participate in the cooperative event.
FULTON CAMPUS STUDENT APPRECIATION The Fulton Campus provided a student appreciation BBQ in celebration of the end of the academic year with a Peace Festival. S.G.O. president Kelly Newton had a little fun with the Fulton Campus “Peace Officer” and managed a fun group “selfie” with the students. Students enjoyed food, games and music with beautiful weather for the event.

COMMENCEM Presiding over the 61st Commencement Ceremony on Sunday May 17, Interim President Gregory T. DeCinque, Ph.D. offered the Opening Declaration and welcomed the more than 540 graduates. Providing the Commencement Address was alumnus R. Daniel Soules ’76, senior partner with Soules & Dunn Development Group. He shared advice to Cayuga Community College “graduates-in-waiting.” His message was to not complicate life, be humble and use common sense. Soules offered thoughts for success to the new graduates about knowing their passion, self-improvement and networking. He said, “When you move on, whether its college or whether it’s your career, never stop talking to your peers. Work with them. They’re going to be your greatest asset moving into the future for opportunity, jobs and contacts.” Families and faculty looked on as Dakota Marshall ‘14 & ’15, one of the recipients of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, stressed the importance of peers. Fellow Chancellor’s Award winner Brittany C. Androsko ’15 gave thanks to friends, family and faculty for guiding them this far through their collective journey. Brittany was also a recipient of the ACC/CCC Alumni Association Commencement Award, along with Christine E. King ’15 and Melissa E. Wilson ’15. Alumni Association President Edward “Ted” Herrling ’72 offered greetings to the new alumni, and a special recognition went to the 2015 ACC/CCC Alumni Association Award winners Bruce G. Burton ’72 and Heidi L. Huddleston Cross ’97, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, CWOCN (You can read more about these outstanding alumni in this issue of Spartan). A reception for the Class of ’15 was held after the commencement ceremony in the College’s Café, where graduates, family, friends and faculty gathered to celebrate the festivities.

THE NURSING CLASS OF 2015 The 40th Annual Professional Advancement and Pinning Ceremony honored graduates of the A.A.S. nursing program at Cayuga Community College in May. The ceremony took place at the Irene A. Bisgrove Community Theatre, where the new CCC Nursing-Alumni descended the aisles holding a lit candle representing the bedside lamp that Florence Nightingale carried in the Crimean War.

HARLEQUIN ALL-YEARS REUNION The semester was over, with Harlequin saying Goodbye and Good Luck to Lexi (Elexis) Tucker ’15 and Ed Gould as they move on. However, the fun wasn’t over, as Harlequin Productions celebrated its first ever, all-years reunion at Emerson Park. A great time was had by alums from the mid 70’s up through grads for 2016! A dinner dance was held on May 9, 2015 at the Hilton Garden Inn in celebration of the nursing program’s 40th anniversary. Over 100 alumni and faculty attended the event. Many former classmates enjoyed getting reacquainted. The nursing program was established in 1974 and graduated its 40th class this year. Seventeen hundred graduates have earned their AAS degrees in Nursing from Cayuga and the program continues to surpass the state and national average rates for the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX).

HARLEQUIN PRODUCTIONS OF CAYUGA COMMUNITY COLLEGE SUCCESSFUL SPRING SEMESTER
The Spring Semester was a busy one with the world premiere production of Losing our Heads, The Guillotine Play by Nina Mansfield. The playwright and her husband drove up from their Connecticut home to see the final performance. She was impressed and had a wonderful talk back session with the cast. The production was adjudicated by the Theatre Association of New York State and was recognized with an award for Excellence in Design to the Technical Production Team. As is the norm for Harlequin the

student company had a great time and really bonded during the rehearsal and per formance period. Many of the company will be returning in the fall of 15 so we are looking forward to an exciting school year! THEATER FESTIVAL
Following their spring production, Harlequin co-hosted with Syracuse based CNY Arts the Michael Harms Theatre Festival. Over 200 High School students and their chaperons descended on CCC

for a day of performances and workshops. This is an exciting time at Cayuga and it is really wonderful to see all the high school exuberance and energy being shared. That is the by-word for the day: sharing. While it is a competition, each school truly is rooting for each other to do well, a very supportive environment. FRAME DIRECTS AUBURN PLAYERS

Beth Piston (East Syracuse, NY) made history for the women’s bowling program by becoming the first All-American in Women’s bowling. Piston had a total pin fall of 2,181 averaging 181.8 for 12 games. SLAYTON DOMINATES REGION III WOMEN’S GOLF
Cayuga CC’s Alayna Slayton was named NJCAA Region III Athlete of the Week for the week of April 27th. The Auburn, NY native earned medalist honors in all three events the final week at Monroe, Genesee and Jefferson Tournaments. In eight total tournaments this spring, the freshman has dominated Region Alayna Slayton III women’s golf by medaling in seven tournaments with the other wins coming at Cayuga, Mohawk Valley, Onondaga and Broome. She finished second at the TompkinsCortland in her only other competition. SPARTAN GOLFERS COMPETE AT REGION III TOURNAMENT

The Cayuga Community College bowling team competed in the NJCAA National Bowling Championship at Airport Lanes in Buffalo, NY. On the men’s side the Spartans had 4 bowlers in the top 20 in a field of 103 bowlers. Joe Clavelli (Oswego, NY) fell short of All-American placing 10th with a total pin fall of 2,277 averaging 189.8. Behind Clavelli was Bernie Cecchini (Union Springs, NY), former high school teammates Zach DelBrocco (Oswego, NY), and Matt Clemons (Oswego, NY). The team finished 3rd overall in a field of 17 teams. The Spartans head to Stratford, NJ to compete in the ISC Sectionals and ITC Sectionals…both USBC events.
The Spartan men’s golf team had two members, Tyler Weslowski (Auburn, NY) and Mike Killian (Scipio Center, NY), qualify for the NJCAA Region III Golf Championships hosted at SUNY Delhi May 10-12. Mike Killian earned All-Region honors…but was edged out in a playoff to qualify for the Nationals…after Spartan golfers Tyler shooting back-to-back 81 scores. Weslowski and Mike Killian He finished tied for 11th after two days. Freshman golfer Tyler Weslowski played admirably and shot an 86 -85 and tied for 30th place.

COLLEGE NEWS NEW HEAD OF FINANCE Cayuga welcomes its new Vice President of Administration/Treasurer, Dr. Daniel DoBell. He is a published author with extensive professional experience in manageDr. Daniel ment and strategic planning. Dr. DoBell earned DoBell his BBA in Accounting and MBA in Management/Information Systems at Iowa State University. He earned his PhD in Higher Education Organization and Leadership at the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign. DoBell’s past experience includes serving as the Chief Financial Officer for the Elmira City School District, Vice President for Finance/Administration with Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, Vice President of Administration/Finance Texarkana College in Texas, and held positions with at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Iowa State University. In his free time, Dan enjoys writing and recording his own original music.

CA$H PROGRAM The CA$H program celebrated its tenth year this past spring. With over 750 tax returns prepared, Cayuga County residents earned back a whopping $1,139,939. The program was started and is overseen by Professor Dawn Matijas-Czolowski ’96. This year her team of graduates and students were Eugenia Benson, Mindy Fedele ’15, Dale Gamba and Hannah Reynolds ’14. “I enjoyed participating in the CA$H program and preparing tax returns for a diverse group of people. I was faced with new challenges and worked with an amazing group of people,” said Mindy Fedele ’15.
FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS CLUB COMPETES This past spring, five members of the Cayuga Community College Phi Beta Lambda chapter of the Future Business Leaders Club participated in a national business competition. Their business pitches won recognition at state and national Future Business Leader conferences held at SUNY Morrisville and in Chicago. Celebrating their success are Stephen (Max) Pinchak, Kevin Shutter, Jon Lupo, Katelyn Mander ‘15, Vince Falcone and Kyrie Ciricillo ‘15.

COLOR RUN CCC’s Phi Theta Kappa hosted its first ever Color Run in April. The 5K run held numerous “color stations” where colored powder was thrown at the competitors. Many organizations showed support with donations, including CCC’s Criminal Justice Club preparing food, NYSEG donating traffic cones, and Auburn National Junior Honor Society and St. Joe’s National Junior Honor Society providing the many needed volunteers for the event. PTK President Dakota Marshall ‘14 &‘15 said, “This was a huge success. We raised over $6,000.” All proceeds went to the Matthew House.

DON FAMA – 50 YEARS TEACHING AT CCC This fall, Professor Donald Fama will begin his 51st year teaching at CCC. While he is now teaching part-time, when asked when he will retire completely he said, “As long as I am an effective instructor, I will continue to teach.” He shared an analogy of two baseball players; “One went out on top after hitting a home run; the other stayed one more year, which caused his averages to drop.” ~Thank you Professor, for your many years of “effective” teaching.

Adriana A. (Amelias) Hardy is still teaching voice privately. She also teaches stage craft & movement for opera singers and workshops in body, breath and sound; as well as directing and performing. You can read more about Mrs. Hardy who is featured in the “Golden Spartan” article.

William (Bill) Keough will be celebration his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Donna in August of 2015. He shares, “Three of their four grandchildren are now driving!” Louis A. Nocilly has finally figured out how to set the DVR to record, send a cell phone text message, program the coffee maker, and to Skype on the Internet!!!

Dennis Brewer (Friend of Alumni) is serving his 26th year as Director of Parks & Recreation in the Town of Canandaigua, New York. He also subs in the Canandaigua Middle School after teaching there for 34 years.

Dorothy C. Benedict said she is “growing old with grace.” Gerald E. Wrobel retired from NYS Department of Taxation & Finance. He is enjoying time with family, especially his two wonderful grandsons.

John “Jack” D. Moore stopped by the alumni office while visiting the area. He reminisced about his time at ACC. He noted that neither the library building nor the tech building had been there, and he recalled the stone walls in front of the college where John Moore ‘68 the students liked to hang out. Jack said, “If it weren’t for ACC, I wouldn’t have had the family, career or life that I have had.” He shared that while he struggled in college, Associate Professor Barbara L. Davis made a huge impact on him. Mr. Moore went on to college in Kansas, where he met his wife. She was not Barbara Davis fond of CNY winters, so he made his career teaching history and raising his family there. As the Alumni Director, I feel very fortunate to be
able to meet many of our alumni and hear their stories. ~Thank you Jack, and please visit again! Susan H. (Rice) Reed is happily retired and enjoying life in sunny Florida.

Richard B. (Rick) Carter retired after 29 years as Professor of Finance at Iowa State University (ISU). Dr. Carter is a 1971 graduate of SUNY at Potsdam. He received his MBA and PhD from the University of Utah. While at ISU he was published in a number of top-ranked academic journals and was a highly cited researcher in the field of financial economics. Dr. Carter and his wife Elizabeth (Hembury), who also attended ACC, are originally from Auburn and are now living in Newport, Oregon. Terry G. Layton retired after 21 years as a County Probation Officer/Supervisor. He was also employed for 8 years as a National Park Service Law Enforcement Ranger in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Frank Netti traveled to the Dominican Republic with his son Joe to assist in missionary work with Fr. Ron Gaesser. Frank had met Father Gaesser when he was a freshman at ACC. They spent a week painting churches and bringing clothing to poor villages.

Kevin A. Daly retired from Auburn State Prison in 2011 where he served as a counselor. He coaches girls’ basketball and softball and is an assistant coach at Auburn High School. He is an umpire for high school softball, a referee for youth basketball, and works for the “Auburn Doubleday’s” in the summer. Carole (Regets) L. Tomandl is very excited to be taking a family vacation to Disney World this summer with all of her children and grandchildren. She is enjoying retirement just as much the second time! Her YMCA membership and her grandchildren keep her motivated and moving! She retired from Upstate Medical University and Auburn Community Hospital Laboratory.

Charles F. Augello recently retired from the Auburn Police Department after 41+ years of service in law enforcement. He continues to teach Criminal Justice at CCC after 20 years and work part-time as a Constable in the towns of Skaneateles, Sennett, and Fleming.

Helen C. Eshleman retired in 1992 from the US Justice Department. She had worked for 19 years at Chronicle Guidance Publications in Moravia, NY, where she retired 1983. Her husband of 69 years passed away November 5, 2014. Her family includes 8 children, 19 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Darlene (Ferro) M. Kuzmyn and her husband Peter have become the proud grandparents of Connor Thomas, born December 22, 2014. He is the second child of their son, Colin Walsh and his wife, Laura Mazzeo Walsh. Loraine Miller is being featured in Cayuga Alumni Voices, our alumni eMagazine. She was originally interviewed by Karen Merritt ’77 in 2007 for The Spartan, as a faculty profile piece. Timothy R. Kopp wrote“Congratulations to Cayuga Community College for maintaining the nursing program for 40 years. My 2 year degree has helped me immensely.” Following graduation, he worked in CCU’s and General OR’s in the Tampa Florida area. In 1980 he worked in the Hershey Medical Center in PA, and 1982 he moved to Phoenix, Arizona and worked in several capacities as an RN. He was hired by St. Jude Medical in 1987 and started a 27 year career as a Medical Device rep., while maintaining his RN license, taking calls and helping out in PACU and OR areas. He still works as a consultant to Medtronic working part-time. “None of my successes would have happened without my nursing background. Anywhere I go, the fact that I am an RN I get instant credibility. It has been an interesting and profitable career. Many thanks to Shirley Vargason and the rest of the staff at CCC for preparing our class and 39 other classes for what has to be the best profession in the world.” ~Tim Kopp RN. Cynthia Nagle and her husband, James Larkin, recently relocated from the Albany, NY (suburb of Clifton Park/Ballston Lake) to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Cindy is now Marketing Director Cynthia Nagle ‘80 at DNV GL - Energy, which manages the Business Energy Efficiency Programs for the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM). She still serves from NM as Treasurer of the Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS), and as VP Database Management of the New York Capital Region Chapter of the American Marketing Association (NYCRAMA) - after serving years ago as President of each organization. Gregory A. Sankey was officially named the eighth commissioner of the NCAA’s Southeastern Conference this past spring. The promotion was expected as he has served as Commissioner Slive’s right hand man Gregory Sankey ‘85 since 2002. Joel L. Glimpse earned an MBA from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2009. He just celebrated 15 years with Verizon Communications Inc.
1997
Angela M. Kulis is proud to announce that her son Sean has retired from the US Air Force and has taken a new job in Seoul Korea. She is planning to visit him this year. Her son Scott graduated from Parson Architecture Design with honors and has a job in Taiwan, which she plans to visit in 2016.
BACHELOR IN NURSING PROGRAM TO BE OFFERED ON CAYUGA’S FULTON CAMPUS
LITTLE FREE LIBRARY COMING TO CCC
Keuka College is currently accepting Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Program applications for Accelerated Studies for Adult RN. The program is scheduled to start on Cayuga’s Fulton campus during the 2016 spring semester. The ASAP RN to Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Program is conveniently scheduled and easily accessible to RNs who work or reside in the Oswego County area. The program can be completed in about eighteen months through classes that are held one night each week.
The Tutor Club and the Early Childhood Club on the Auburn Campus worked together to bring the Little Free Library to CCC. The Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that supports the worldwide movement to offer free books to the community. The Little Free Library will be located outside the Child Care Center on the Auburn Campus and should be in-place in September.
COLLEGE BLOOD DRIVE CCC, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, held another successful blood drive last spring. The event collected enough units to help over 117 lives. Donations collected reached 56% over their planned goal, which boasted 11 first-time donors. Participants received free shirts in celebration of Earth Day.

2001
Richard Leslie Coalson ’61 passed away on Dec. 28, 2014 with his family by his side. He earned an associate in science degree at ACC and married Leland Underwood Kruger that same year. Richard received a bachelor of science and a Ph.D. in forest chemistry from SUNY of Forestry at Syracuse University. He was employed as a research chemist for DuPont for several years and then took a job with PPG Industries in Pittsburgh, Pa., as a research associate. He retired from PPG in 1997 and moved back to Auburn where he served on the Owasco Watershed Lake Association Board of Directors for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many enjoyable hours on Owasco Lake boating, fishing, and water-skiing with his family and friends. Dick was also a volunteer for Mealson-Wheels as a driver and volunteered for the CA$H program run by United Way. Dick was predeceased by his beloved wife Lee of 51 years. He is survived by his two children, Nancy (Michael) New and son, Jonathan; two granddaughters, Chelsea and Charlotte and great-grandson, Leland.
Eileen J. Jerrett was the fall 2014 Brunell Visiting Artist. While at Cayuga, she screened her documentary film, Blueberry Soup, which was about grassroots constitutional change in Iceland. Eileen started a Kickstarter campaign Eileen J. Jerrett ‘01 in August to exhibit the film in Europe and make a follow-up film of the tour. Kyle Andrew Boylan
Jolene M. (D’Amato) Boylan and her husband Rich, daughter of Henry A. D’Amato ’83 and Linda D’Amato announce the arrival of Kyle Andrew on May 11th. Kyle was also welcomed by brother Nathan (2) who was anxiously awaiting his baby brother.

Mindy E. (Lewis) Fedele worked in the Registrar’s office while attending CCC, her freshman year, and in the President’s office her sophomore year; where she continues to work under the Executive Assistant to the President. She also worked for the CA$H Program while earning her degree in Accounting. Mindy sells honey from her beekeeping business at the Wolcott and Clyde Farmers’ Markets and shares that she is “Always bizzy.” Mindy is married to Mark and has three children.

Stella G. Streppa ’63 passed away November 29, 2010. She earned her degree in secretarial science and moved to Manhattan Beach California to pursue her career. In 1966, Stella moved to Jackson Hole, WY where she became Stella G. Streppa ’63 an official ski guide for the Teton Village Resorts. She was a loving sister and aunt who managed several eateries in Jackson Hole and Cheyenne before becoming a successful owner of “Louies” in Jackson Hole, a fine dining restaurant with her partner. Later she operated her own restaurant in Chino Valley, AZ. She was a lover of animals and left behind two horses, goats, a dog and a cat on her 5 acre mini-ranch. All animals were adopted following her passing. She is survived by her brother Art; sister Louise; nephews Joshua and Skye; and two grandnieces. Emma R. Holtby ’88 passed away June 10, 2015. She earned her Associates Degree in nursing and was employed as a Registered Nurse at Upstate University Hospital, Auburn Memorial Hospital, Mercy Health & Rehabilitation Center and most recently at the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department. As a nurse Emma was loved and respected by her co-workers and patients and was known for her sense of humor. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved and cared for her family, and especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved

husband, Phillip E. Holtby. Emma is survived by her children, Phillip (Kelly) Holtby, Cash (Amy) Holtby and Sue Holtby; her daughtersin-law Toni Holtby and MaryEllen Holtby; her cherished grandchildren and other family members. Michelle A. Cole ’05 passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her on Oct. 25, 2014. Michelle was a beautiful, loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, aunt, and friend to many. She was a cherished member of the First Presbyterian Church family growing Michelle A. Cole ’05 up, and took part in the Youth Group and choir. She graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education and enjoyed writing, singing, cooking, and exploring new talents. She had a unique love of children, who were naturally drawn to her creative spirit. Michelle is survived by her parents, Jeffrey A. (’08 Alumni Friend) and Janet (Holdrege) Cole ’72, of Auburn; siblings, Bradley J. Cole ’01, Stacy and Christopher Coleman, and Kristen (Cole) ’02 Griffen and husband Patrick Griffen; grandmother Dorothy Noble; grandfather, Lloyd Holdrege; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a niece. She was predeceased by her grandfather, James MF Cole, and grandmother, Marion Holdrege.
