On Monday, March 21, 2016 Ashley Rhodes-Courter lectured at McDonald Hall at Cazenovia College to a packed audience. Her message was both profound and inspiring. By the age of three, Ashley was in Florida’s foster care system where she spent 10 years being swapped between 14 homes—some abusive—before being adopted by the age of 12. Despite her situation, Ashely went on to excel in school and became an advocate for herself and other children living in abusive foster homes. Her “Three Little Words” memoir became a New York Times international bestseller.

“Growing up in foster care gave the book, “Three Little Words” much more meaning to me than just a book. I was able to deeply connect to it and relate to Ashley. I finally felt like someone knew what I had gone through and the struggles I still feel today. Being able to introduce Ms. Rhodes -Courter allowed me to use my leadership to create an experience that I will carry with me forever.” Justice Armstrong 2
