Sport shoes update The College understands the difficulties parents have encountered when purchasing sports shoes or joggers for their sons, with the prevailing fashion being overtly colourful, or inappropriate for sport. Please note that students’ sports shoes or joggers are no longer required to be white but must provide the required support and structure to safely engage in sports activities. Supportive shoes have a firm heel and inflexible sole. Skate shoes are not acceptable. Any student or parent who is uncertain regarding the suitability of sports shoes is welcome to consult the Head of Health & Physical Education or relevant Head of House prior to purchase.

Joel Moss Teacher I went to St Bartholomew ’s House in East Perth. I chatted with the old guys who live there, helped with lunch and then played pool with a few of them in the afternoon. They wanted to know wh at it was like being a teacher and one old guy heard from my accent that I am from Eng land so he told me his life story growing up there and about his family. Mr Leices ter set up his train set and they were hav ing fun there but I sat with the others . It was really interesting to see a world that I hadn’t really thought abo ut. Changes to aged care MercyCare is the leading not-for-profit Catholic provider of aged care, family, health, disability and community services. Our community and home services provide support to assist individuals over the age of 65 years to remain as independent as possible in their own home. There have been many changes within aged care over the last few years, and many people do not realise that there are government funded services available to individuals to keep them living at home for longer. These services can be flexible and include support to participate in social activities or to keep up with the essentials, assistance with everyday household tasks and providing support for everyday personal care activities. The services also include in-home nursing assistance with wound care, continence management, and medication management. There are also many support services available for carers to enable them to take a break. Please call Samantha from MercyCare on 6228 1537 to discuss the support services that are available. Alternatively please email sspiro@mercycare.com.au.

Child Protection Week
Safeguarding Protective Behaviours
Parent Workshops
The Perth Catholic Archdiocese Safeguarding Program is child focused and informed by a fundamental belief that children have the right to physical and psychological safety at all times. Whilst the Safeguarding Program is working hard throughout the Perth Catholic Archdiocese, we all must play our part to protect children and keep them safe. During Child Protection Week, the Safeguarding Office in partnership with WA Child Safety Services will be hosting a series of Protective Behaviours Workshops.
One way in which parents can assist in increasing their child's safety is by teaching them the Protective Behaviours Program and as such we strongly recommend all parents attend a workshop. These workshops have been designed to teach parents and carers how to increase the personal safety of their children. Whilst there are many ways of talking to children about their personal safety, it is important that we do not scare them or leave them feeling unsafe, afraid or disempowered. Our new resource Protecting God’s Children provides parents with strategies to increase their children’s safety and cope with situations that threaten their wellbeing and personal safety. The program empowers the individual with the right to feel safe and sets out ways in which they can gain the appropriate help.
