CBFNC supports and strengthens ministry leaders and the congregations they serve by guid ing them through Ministerial Transitions and providing a full suite of Church and Ministerial Resources.
WELCOME HOUSE EQUIP Ministers & Churches
CBFNC partners with churches and organizations to embrace neighbors with the love of Christ by supporting local church missions and field personnel through grants, sharing in the work of racial justice and other social needs, partnering with Red Latina (Hispanic ministry), expanding the Welcome House hospitality ministry and funding nearly 30 ministry partners.
CBFNC invests in emerging generations of Christians by offering faith formation experiences for youth, sustaining student ministries on college campuses across our state and support ing quality theological education for current and future congregational leaders by awarding scholarships.

EMBRACE Neighbors Through Mission
During the past year, as the world emerged from the isolation of a global pandemic, we are developing a “new normal” of vaccinations, re-gathering and learning to live with COVID. It is more important than ever that people know they are seen by God and understand they are beloved children of God. And as God’s people, we are one of the primary ways others can experience the loving gaze of God. This report describes many of the ways our fellowship has been engaged in the process of “seeing as God sees” over the past year. In the pages that follow, you will find stories, snapshots and statistics of our fellowship at work: Equipping Ministers and Churches, Embracing Our Neighbors through Missions, Engaging Students and Young Adults, Supporting Ministry Partners and Cultivating Beloved Community within and beyond local churches. As a ministry organization, we don’t produce products. We build relationships, which is done through people. CBFNC experienced several personnel changes during this time period.

The Christian faith teaches that what matters is not being seen by the “in crowd,” but being seen by God. Once we realize that God sees us, loves us and accepts us, then God calls and equips us to see, love and accept others in God’s name.

We SOMETIMES TEASE THAT THE REAL PURPOSE OF A PARTICULAR EVENT IS “TO SEE AND BE SEEN;” TO BE NOTICED BY IMPORTANT, INFLUENTIAL OR FASHIONABLE PEOPLE.
• We celebrated the retirement of Eddie Hammett as Church and Clergy Coach. He served with distinction for 12 years, establishing a coach training program and introducing coaching to many church leaders.
• Jason Cogdill, who already served on the Coordinating Council as CBFNC Treasurer, took on a new role to provide legal resources to churches and ministers.
• We also conducted a search for a new associate execu tive coordinator and called Andy Hale to that role, starting June 1, 2022. He will provide leadership in several ministry areas, with a special focus on expanding CBFNC’s ministries with young adults. In spite of the economic challenges facing all religious organizations, CBFNC remains on a strong financial footing. I am grateful for the frugal management of our Coordinating Council and staff coupled with the generosity of our donors, both churches and individuals.

• At the 2022 “hybrid” Annual Gathering, we celebrated the ministry of Wanda Kidd as Collegiate Engagement Coordinator. She served for 15 years, establishing a cam pus ministry program “from scratch” that is the largest of any CBF organization. David Stone, CBFNC’s campus min ister in Western NC, took on additional state-wide duties.

6 Make an Impact YOURGIFTS Baptist campus ministry groups nurturing young adults on college campuses across the state. 24 ministers assisted through ministerial transitions. 87 churches in North Carolina assisted through searches for senior pastors. 98 clergy development events, webinars and roundtables, including Helping Pastors Thrive events and workshops, to support and inspire clergy spiritually and professionally. 29
7 Make an Impact YOURGIFTS given as grants to churches and mis sions partners to share God’s love by providing help, hope and friendship to the vulnerable in our state and world. $75,483 gift from CBFNC to the CBF Ukraine Relief Fund to support field personnel and ministry partners helping to provide food, shelter and care to refugees of the war. $50,000 ministries in the Welcome House Community Network that provide temporary housing and community outreach to housing insecure neighbors in communities across North Carolina. 30 awarded in theological education scholarships to 41 current and future ministers. $99,000
Jersey Baptist in Lexington, NC sought CBFNC’s guidance for support during its search for a new senior pastor. “During our time of transition, CBFNC leadership was a huge asset for Jersey Baptist Church. They helped with pulpit supply and educated our search team on each step of the process to call our new, full-time senior pastor,” shares Millie Wattenbarger, chair of the Jersey Baptist Pastor Search Committee.
When Tropical Storm Fred dumped massive amounts of rain and caused devastating flooding in western North Carolina in August 2021, CBFNC leaders got in touch with church leaders in the region to offer sup port, facilitate communication and initiate ministry planning. Our fellowship responded to address two urgent needs: plastic storage totes for displaced families to store their belongings and disaster response buckets filled with clean ing supplies. Volunteers from local churches and neighboring college campuses gathered at Hominy Baptist Church in Candler for the CBFNC “Bucket Brigade” to pack cleaning sup plies for flood victims. “CBFNC partnered with our local clergy group, they heard our needs and they have this great network of wonderful people who were willing to help meet those needs,” said Court Greene, senior pastor of Canton First Baptist.

Over the course of the last year, CBFNC helped nearly 100 churches in their search for senior pastors and associate pastors. At the same time, we also provided resources and support to ministers in all stages of their careers, particularly those whose churches have been experiencing a variety of challenges because of the pandemic.

The Conetoe Family Life Center, a mis sions project of CBF Field Personnel Anna Anderson addressing issues of poverty and food insecurity in Edgecombe County, was the first recipient of a CBFNC Welcome House Community Network grant. The grant money helped with renovations to a dou ble-wide mobile home that is now Welcome House Conetoe. Completed in November 2021, this Welcome House has been provid ing a warm, safe place for a family to live while their home’s substandard conditions are being repaired. CBFNC provides Welcome House Community Network Grants to churches and partners to establish more Welcome House ministries across the state. “This has been a miraculous transformation in seeing a broken and displaced house become a home of wel come and hospitality, which now stands as an example of God's love and provision at work in our hurting world,” said Anna.

Welcome House Conetoe SPOTLIGHT:MINISTRY
Brought together by their shared desire to see a Baptist group on campus, Avery Browning and Ainsley Blasius sought help from CBFNC collegiate ministry staff to start a new Cooperative Baptist Student Fellowship ministry at Campbell University. Both young women have been involved at Ardmore Baptist, Winston-Salem and value the Cooperative Baptist expression of faith and they wanted to have a place to grow their faith during the college years. Currently, CBFNC is the only Baptist pro vider in North Carolina of this important social and spiritual nurturing for college students at such a formative point in their lives. “CBSF campus groups create a home and community away from home. It’s meant a lot to us because it’s a time to grow in our faith and come together with different peo ple to enjoy God’s word and fellowship,” shares Avery. $55,000
