Fresh Goodies & Espresso O

at Owl Tree Bakery

n January 17th of 2014, a dream came true for Krysti Bradley. That's the day Owl Tree Bakery at 3910 Hill Road in Boise opened for business.

Krysti's goal with Owl Tree is to serve delicious baked goods and coffee drinks using only all-natural ingredients and locally-sourced, organic whenever possible.

Krysti grew up baking with her mom and grandma, who were fabulous bakers. She always loved mixing the doughs and batters. She started making muffins in her free time to take to her music theory class in college and knew she wanted to one day have her own bakery and coffeeshop.

They craft their chai and syrups for the coffee from scratch, as well. Owl Tree's coffee beans come from local roaster, Dawson Taylor.

When she saw that Sol Bakery on Hill Road was for sale, she and her husband went to see it. During that first visit, an owl flew into the tree out front and sat for some time, allowing Krysti and her husband to watch it. Taking it as a good omen, they purchased Sol, and Owl Tree was born.

Business hours are Wednesday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Owl Tree is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Visit their website at owltreebakery.com.

The bakery offers muffins, cookies, cakes, breads, and more, including savory items such as turkey and cheddar pockets and sausage rollups. They will create custom cupcakes for weddings and birthdays and take orders for special events year 'round. COLDWELL BANKER TOMLINSON GROUP

Go Bold

with Interior Color Schemes

Want to brighten up your home but don’t want to go to extremes? Think of color or bold patterns as accents and use them sparingly throughout your home. The occasional bright or bold pattern will catch the eye, but not overwhelm the space. Amy Freeman Coldwell Banker Blue Matter

W

hile a bit of color in your home can make it feel exciting and unique, going too far and having too many bright and colorful decorations can overwhelm your space, giving it a frantic energy. When picking interior color schemes for your home, it’s important to remember a few rules. First, it helps to understand how colors work together. Once you understand that, the next step is figuring out how to balance them. Adding color to your home also involves picking and choosing decorations and furniture carefully.

Get Familiar with the Color Wheel. A color wheel can be a useful tool when you’re picking out interior color schemes for your home. The wheel usually contains 12 hues, arranged in a particular order. For example, since red and blue combined make violet or purple, the order of the color wheel goes red, red-violet, violet, blue-violet, blue. Usually, the wheel can be split into two halves: warm and cool. Warm colors usually contain a fair amount of red, while cool colors contain a lot of blue. Orange and

red-violet are warm colors, while blue-green and violet tend to be cool colors. Colors located next to each other on the wheel are known as analogous colors. Red, red-violet, and violet are analogous, for example. Picking an analogous color scheme for your interior design is one way to create a balanced, harmonious look in a room, while still allowing you the chance to add a burst of color or brightness. Tone and saturation are also important when picking out

PAGE 9 colors. A saturated yellow will be bright and vivid, but if a yellow hue has more gray in it, the tone of the color changes — it becomes less saturated and more muted, making it more neutral. Remember the 80/20 Rule. Once you’ve mastered the basics of color theory, one rule that can help you make use of it in your home is the 80/20 rule. The premise of the rule is simple: Use neutral colors for 80 percent of the decor and a bright and bold color for the remaining 20 percent of the decor. If you’re using an analogous color scheme with shades of blue and cbboise.com

purple, a gray-toned blue might be ideal for the walls, while a vivid violet couch or armchair can add just the pop of color you need.

free way to add a bold look to your home. If you decide you don’t like the brightness, you can easily trade the pillows for a neutral-colored set.

Pick One Feature to Highlight. A simple way to put the 80/20 rule to use in your home is to choose one feature to accent or focus on. For example, you might decide that you want your seating to be brightly colored and choose a hotpink sofa or a fire-engine-red chaise.

While you can find ways to bring bright and bold colors home without overdoing it, if you still feel stuck, another option is to work with color consultant or decorator. A consultant can help you pick out colors that work with your style and that don’t overwhelm your home. Whether you do it on your own or work with a pro, you can add color — and go bold without going overboard.

You can also pick smaller accents if you’re extra cautious about color. Adding brightly colored pillows to a neutral couch is a commitment-

Fun Real Estate Factoids

We Bet You Didn't Know

Keep your guests on their toes and be the Jeopardy champion of factoids with these quirky and intriguing real estate facts. Lindsay Listanski Coldwell Banker Blue Matter

I

t's true that real estate is local. And while some terms and traditions are local, too, others are universal. Here are some fun facts from around the world. 1. India’s richest man built a 27 story home. With 6 floors dedicated to parking and 400,000 square feet of living space, it requires 600 staff members to maintain it.

4. A FROG is actually a room. The Finished Room Over Garage is a term used often in the Southeast U.S. (and there’s even an unFROG when unfinished). Other parts of the country refer to it as a bonus room or great room. 5. In Scotland, homeowners paint their front door red when they pay off their mortgage.

2. The day you list your home matters. Homes listed on Thursday and Friday get more buyer tours, sell faster, and for higher prices. Homes listed on Sunday get more online views.

6. In some homes, bathrooms can disappear before your eyes. A house with two powder rooms (1/2 bath + 1/2 bath) and two more baths with standup showers (3/4 bath + 3/4 bath) actually has 2.5 bathrooms total.

3. The smallest home in Great Britain measures just 10 feet by 6 feet. It was once inhabited by a 6-foot, 3-inch fisherman.

7. Brass hardware actually disinfects itself. There’s an ionic effect in the metal that is toxic to all kinds of germs and pathogens.

cbboise.com

8. Dead bodies heat homes. In Sweden and Denmark, crematoriums pass the heat from their incinerators on to the local utilities for residential use. 9. It’s not just the home. 8 out of 10 buyers would give up square footage for the right neighborhood, and 6 out of 10 would give up yard space for a shorter commute. 10. Real estate listings with the words “beautiful” or “gorgeous” in their listing descriptions sell 15% faster than other listings. They also sell for 5% higher prices. Is that just correlation or some great marketing causation? Ask your Realtor.
