Faculty Spotlight
Stacy Meyer, EdD Associate Dean, School of Education
As a teenager I was not certain of what I wanted to do as a career. I thought I might want to be a lawyer or work internationally. After my first year of college, I realized those professions sounded interesting because my deepest desires were to advocate for others both locally and globally. It was in the field of education where I learned I could do both. Educators are the people who inspire, shape and prepare every other profession. It is in education where one individual has the ability to ignite a pursuit capable of impacting great change.
I have had the privilege of working and serving in public, private, homeschool and international school settings. These opportunities have afforded me experiences which have shaped my perspective on how to effectively teach all students through the building of authentic relationships. Relationships are the key! This is a foundational idea relevant and transferable to
the jungles of Ecuador, the villages of Malawi, our local K–12 elementary schools and here at California Baptist University.
Equipping future teachers at CBU is a true joy. Because I was a first-generation college student, I look for ways to support and encourage others to persevere in their degree completion. My doctoral research in school retention in vulnerable populations has opened the door to global opportunities for our students. I know what we do in our School of Education programs is going to determine what takes place in our local classrooms. As a result, my goal is to touch the heart of my students so that I might then impact their minds—and then to teach them to do the same with their students!
“If you don’t have the HEART of your students, you will never have their MINDS!” – Unknown
