“Healthcare simulation occurs in various environments and creative leaders from multi-disciplinary degree backgrounds are essential for simulation centers. Through this program healthcare simulation leaders are equipped to run state-of-the-art centers within healthcare.”

Program Distinctives

Develop as a Leader

The CBU Interprofessional Education Learning Resource Center (IPE-LRC) is a state-of-the-art, fully accredited simulation program through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). The mission of the simulation program is to create integrated best practice simulation, advocating for realism and providing a safe learning environment across health-related disciplines. The program is designed to equip future simulation leaders to lead best-practice simulation programs both nationally and internationally. 01

Prepare for Certification

The program is designed to prepare graduates to become Certified Healthcare Simulation Educators (CHSE). CBU is an active member of the Society of Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL), and Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE).

Gain a Holistic Perspective

The Healthcare Simulation Leadership program is part of the Interprofessional Education Program at CBU which provides students a wholistic perspective of healthcare through the integration of seven healthcare disciplines and local community involvement.

Facility Highlight

We believe that healthcare simulation is a science dedicated to the essence of innovative, evidenced-based thinking, which utilizes best practice standards to develop immersive and safe learning environments for simulation participants. The program integrates the latest science and technology, combining innovative leadership and evidenced-based methodologies, learning theories, and best practice standards to promote excellence in simulation leadership. Housed within the College of Nursing at CBU, the facility contains a state-of-the-art learning environment and faculty who are certified and well-versed in the art of developing and maintaining an accredited and evidenced-based simulation program.

The College of Nursing also features a special simulation room called the “Black Box Room” where nursing students experience an immersive simulation in public health, emergency and cross-cultural situations.

Faculty Spotlight

Sarah

of Simulation & Standardized Patient Program

During my undergraduate coursework at California Baptist University, I was hired to work in the College of Nursing Simulation and Learning Resource Center. In this role, I collaborated with nursing and technology experts to create realistic and evidencedbased practice simulations. After graduating with my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education with an emphasis in instructional computer applications, I became a full-time staff member at CBU. I was promoted over the course of 4 years from a lab assistant to the Assistant Director of the College of Nursing Interprofessional Education Learning Resource Center. Most recently, I assumed the Director of Simulation and Standardized Patients role and received my PhD in curriculum and instruction in 2022.

In addition to my work at the College of Nursing, I have been actively involved in live theatre, performing on stage and behind the scene since 1993. I have been recognized in The Press Enterprise on multiple occasions for my excellence within the theater and continue to play an essential role in the Inland Empire’s community theater programs. The combination of my educational and theater background plays a significant role in my efforts to promote critical thinking, evidence-based practice, realism, and efficiency within the simulation environment. I have had the opportunity to grow the CBU simulation program to serve over 3,000 healthcare students across campus each academic year and develop training programs and simulation scenarios for local community public health, hospital, fire, and safety departments. My passion for creating excellence in simulation-based learning is evidenced by an ever-growing program supported fiscally and logistically by California Baptist University and local city and public health departments.
