“It was a homecoming experience studying at CBU, not only because of its beautiful campus, gourmet foods, and a wide variety of majors but also its approachable and supportive faculty. All my professors hold a Ph.D. degree and are true experts in their fields. I learned how to conduct research, work with the inter-professional team, and, most importantly, love and serve the poor and weak like Jesus Christ. CBU also provided working opportunities by assisting me in applying for CPT and OPT, which helped me immeasurably. The staff from the International Center were like my close family members! Studying at CBU was a transformative experience. I am so proud to join the CBU alumni.”
Wish you were here.

Where You Study Matters
CBU’s campus is a mix of old and new. We maintain the beauty and charm of our historical mission-style buildings while also building modern facilities for students to learn with the latest advancements in technology. One of our newest additions to campus is the state-of-the-art Engineering Building, a worldclass learning facility designed for engineering students to gather, study and create. This building has three stories of unique learning spaces, including a 3D printing lab, virtual reality room and rooftop solar lab. Our campus is holistically tailored for students so you’ll also find designated places for community and leisure like the Recreation Center and the Events Center, a 5,050-seat arena that hosts athletic and campus-wide events.

“With a passion for business studies, I started my journey at CBU. I was very new to the environment because I never had an experience of studying abroad, but the International Center at CBU helped me a lot. Many international events gave me an opportunity to connect with the students here and experience different cultures. I would like to say that, as every experience makes you grow, my time at CBU has helped me to grow and elevate my knowledge.”
Dennis and Carol Troesh Engineering BuildingCurrent Research:
My interests focus on the general topics of resilient infrastructure and sustainable construction materials, including the development of probabilistic models and fragility curves, damage assessment and loss estimation, performance evaluation and retrofit of structures, and structural behavior of high performance concrete and fiber-reinforced concrete. My previous research achievements in the area of development of fragility curves for several types of buildings and a probabilistic framework for structural damage assessment have been successfully implemented into MAEViz, a regional seismic loss estimation tool developed by the Mid-America Earthquake (MAE) Center.
PROFESSOR PREVIEW
Dr. Jong-Wha Bai
Professor of Civil Engineering and Construction Management
Courses Taught:
• Structural Analysis I
• Structural Design I
• Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering
Why I Love Teaching at CBU:
As a professor, I see great opportunities here at CBU. For example, CBU provides financial support for faculty to attend conferences and conduct research so that faculty can promote scholarship in their specialty areas. This research grant is also a good opportunity to engage students in research. CBU offers various opportunities to serve the community locally as well as internationally through service learning projects. In addition, the location of the CBU campus is geographically very convenient to network with many government and industry people in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and Inland Empire.

“The Career Center was exceptionally good at preparing me to be fully confident in my interviewing skills with any employer. The support of the Career Center helped me become a stronger applicant and sharpened my weaknesses to turn them into strengths. I also received quite a few compliments from employers due to my resume, which the Career Center helped me adjust and design.”

MAY 2023, BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
“The Career Center has prepared me the most through their mock interviews and career fairs. I was able to feel more prepared for my interviews and get face to face interactions with employers, which helped a lot with my internship search. Out of the four offers I received, three of the companies were from the career fairs at CBU! Without a doubt, the Career Center played a huge role in my internship search.”
