We exist to educate competent, responsible, caring and professional nurses prepared from a biblical worldview to serve locally, nationally and globally; revering the human dignity of all persons created in the image of God.

Facility Highlight

We believe that nursing is a human science, and the essence of nursing is found in the relationship a nurse establishes with the patient, their family and the community. Integrating the latest science and technology, the College of Nursing combines innovative leadership and nursing theory in order to promote excellence globally.

Students in the College of Nursing train in state-of-the-art facilities designed to prepare students for real-life situations. For post-licensure students, the lab also features humancomputer interaction programs and advanced practice task trainers for customized learning.

The college also features a special simulation room called the “Black Box Room” where students experience immersive simulation. During the program, students interact with standardized patients to practice advanced nursing skills.

Dr. Torres is a practicing and experienced nurse practitioner and educator. As a nurse practitioner, she has worked in internal medicine, family practice, the emergency department and currently as a Neurology Nurse Practitioner Specialist in the stroke unit.

Dr. Torres is an associate professor in graduate nursing studies at California Baptist University and director of the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. She has been a preceptor for PA and NP students with a devout passion for education. She graduated with a master’s degree in nursing from California Baptist University in 2013 while concurrently pursuing her FNP certification. She completed many of her clinical hours and training in the emergency department at Loma Linda University Medical Center. While practicing as a nurse practitioner, she pursued additional education and training for her Emergency NP certification. Most recently she completed a doctoral degree in Nursing Practice and an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification. She holds certifications as a Family and Emergency Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.

Faculty Spotlight

Nidia Torres, DNP Program Director, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

In addition to clinical practice and educational experience, Dr. Torres has extensive knowledge related to health care delivery, administration, insurance contracting, payer legalities and business management. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration and has accumulated knowledge based on 30 years of work experience within healthcare settings including private practices and hospitals such as Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, St. Mary Medical Center and, most recently, Eisenhower Medical Center.

Her God-directed path and passion for nursing started in high school, at the age of 16, when she completed the medical assistant program through ROP. She has been in healthcare ever since. She now focuses on educating and mentoring prospective future nurse practitioner colleagues, but she also inspires youth by introducing them to the field of nursing. She does this by speaking at high schools in underserved communities and assisting undergraduate students to navigate the college process. She likes to focus in Hispanic communities where education may not always be prioritized. She knows that everything she has accomplished is based on God’s goodness. Being a blessing to others is a way to show God praise.
