The Department of Public Health Sciences is housed within the 11-acre CBU Health Science Campus. The campus includes 70,000 square feet of indoor space with classrooms, labs, gathering spaces and a food service facility that are beautifully tailored to meet the needs of our undergraduate and graduate students.
Our cutting-edge facilities and equipment are designed to provide students with every opportunity to master the skills needed to excel in their chosen professions upon graduating from CBU. Students have access to radiography labs, an environmental chamber, metabolic carts, patient care mannequins, bioelectrical impedance body composition analysis and so much more!

Faculty Spotlight
Marshare Penny, DrPH Clinical Professor, Public Health
Dr. Marshare Penny is a Deputy Director of Public Health with specific focus on health equity for the Riverside University Health System (RUHS) — Public Health in Riverside County, California. In this role she leads the Division of Infectious Disease, Community Health Planning, and Equity; which serves as home to the HIV/STD, Public Health Laboratory, Epidemiology and Program Evaluation, Vital Records, and Disease Control Programs. She has 20 years of experience in community and public health, with 10 years serving as a local epidemiologist in the Inland Empire region of California. Her training and experience have been used in outbreak investigations as well as in the trending and monitoring of injury and chronic diseases.
Dr. Penny serves as co-principal evaluator for one of the 35 state-funded Community Defined Evidence Practice (CDEP) projects under the California Reducing Disparities Project. She is also a lead developer of a health department-wide 6-module training series to promote discourse around the issue of health inequities. Her research and development of this training has led to collaborations with the departments of public health for the California Counties of Alameda, Monterey, Riverside, and San Bernardino.
Dr. Penny is a Clinical Professor of Public Health and former Master of Public Health Program Director and Chair for the Department of Public Health Sciences at California Baptist University. Her research interests include the areas of workforce development, health equity, social determinants of health, epidemiology, disaster preparedness, and injury and violence prevention. Her passions include working alongside community, students, and alumni to advance equity and justice in health, and supporting the core functions and essential services in public health practice. She earned her DrPH in Health Promotion with a cognate in epidemiology from Loma Linda University and her MPH in epidemiology from San Diego State University.

2.75 cumulative or last 60/90 unit GPA. Additional opportunities may be available for a student to overcome an unsatisfactory GPA.
