Transforming lives through the health professions

Facility Highlight

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is housed within the 11-acre CBU Health Science Campus. The campus includes 70,000 square feet of indoor space with classrooms, labs, gathering spaces and a food service facility that are beautifully tailored to meet the needs of our undergraduate and graduate students.

Our cutting-edge facilities and equipment are designed to provide students with every opportunity to master the skills needed to excel in their chosen professions upon graduating from CBU. Students have access to the Clinical Education Center where, while under the supervision of experienced clinical educators, they will obtain hands-on experience working with those who have had communication disorders across their lifespan.

CBU is recognized as the fifth best college campus in America,* and the resources available to our students and faculty are something that give us great pride as we serve our students and the Inland Southern California community.

CCC-SLP

Sciences

Bryan Ness, PhD, is the chair of the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department and director of the speech-language pathology graduate program at California Baptist University. Prior to earning his PhD, Dr. Ness practiced speech-language pathology in a regional trauma center where he developed an interest in rehabilitation for patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI).

As a researcher, Dr. Ness works collaboratively with professionals in the community, undergraduate and graduate students, and other researchers to study ways speech-language pathologists can help individuals with TBI recover and adapt to life with acquired cognitive-communication impairments. His most recent work has examined the impact of traumatic brain injury on social communication and interpersonal relations, the return-to-work process and academic achievement for secondary and post-secondary enrolled students. Dr. Ness presents his research findings at various national and regional conferences, and his work has been published in leading rehabilitation and education journals.
