Green Valley

Sonoran Haven for Active Retirees

Known for its mild climate and desirable location, Green Valley, located in Pima

County, is comprised primarily of active adult communities. Its neighborhoods

appeal to those who are seeking a comfortable and richly diverse lifestyle.

Just 25 miles south of Tucson in a basin of the Santa Rita Mountains along

the Santa Cruz River, Green Valley has it all – from convenient access to

outdoor pursuits that include fishing, golfing and birding, to opportunities

for arts and cultural appreciation.

The majority of the residential developments in Green Valley are designated

for those aged 55 and over. Locals often travel by golf cart to meet up with

friends for a cup of coffee, browse the farmers market for fresh produce

and flowers or join a lively pickleball game. Members of the Green Valley

Recreation organization enjoy privileges at its pools, spas, fitness centers

and sports courts. There are also plenty of classes, lectures and clubs to

suit a variety of interests, and the West Social Center satisfies those seeking

theater and musical entertainment. Nearby Madera Canyon, only 25 miles southeast of Green Valley, is a favorite

destination for spotting wildlife, picnicking and hitting the trail. For exploration

of a different kind, head to the educational Hacienda de la Canoa Ranch or

the fascinating exhibits at the Titan Missile Museum, each of which offers a

healthy dose of history. The unique village of Tubac is only 20 miles away,

with cultural offerings throughout the year as well as the acclaimed annual

Festival of the Arts that has been showcasing the handiwork of artisans from

across the country for nearly six decades.

In the fall, the highly anticipated Country Fair White Elephant Parade canceled

in 2020 is the perfect representation of the neighborly atmosphere that prevails

in Green Valley. It’s an annual event designed to give back to the community

while bringing everyone together in one exciting united celebration. With

such a vibrant spirit, and so many activities to choose from in and around

the area, it’s no surprise that in 2017, Forbes magazine ranked Green Valley

among the 25 best places to retire in the United States.
