Oasis in the Valley of the Sun

One of the most popular neighborhoods in Phoenix is a favorite community of Scottsdale as well – made possible by the fact that Arcadia actually straddles both fine cities. While the indisputable majority lies in Phoenix, the easternmost tip of the neighborhood actually has a Scottsdale address. Luckily, the two cities peaceably share claim to the community’s shaded lanes, lush lawns, spacious lots and some terrific dining and shopping options. These are all part of what makes the area so desirable and a real standout in the desert landscape.

With a rich history in the citrus farming industry, Arcadia fortunately still boasts beautiful and fragrant remnants of its agricultural past, which dates to the early 1900s. The Arcadia Water Company, incorporated in 1919, is responsible for a sophisticated system of irrigation that kept the original tracts of land properly hydrated and gave the community its reputation for having some of the most verdant land around.

Many of the homes from the community’s formative years still adorn the neighborhood and have been lovingly maintained and updated over the

decades. These historical residences are interspersed with others that represent a variety of architectural styles, from Frank Lloyd Wright-style ranches to Pueblo Revival.

Famed Camelback Mountain, appropriately resembling a kneeling camel, is a huge draw for hikers from all over. Incredible views of this Phoenix landmark can be enjoyed from Arcadia, and the neighborhood’s proximity to Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon Recreation Area makes it even more desirable for nature enthusiasts who like to hit the trail. Cyclists can join in the fun by traversing Lafayette Boulevard, notable for its accommodating bike lanes, and continuing to wind their way through Arcadia’s tree-lined avenues.
