Foundation Diploma (Pages 80-83) Art Foundation courses are for those aged 18+ (normally post A-Level students) considering a degree in art and design. With the increasing diversity of art and design related degree subjects, knowing which one is best for you is an important decision, it’s why most creative degrees recommend studying Art Foundation prior to commencing a degree subject after A-Level study.

Access to HE in Art & Design (Pages 84-87) The one year Access to Higher Education course provides opportunities for those returning to education or those who do not have relevant qualifications to study at university level. The course is designed for the returning student, or mature (19+) students who want to explore higher education opportunities in the future.

Can you tell us something about your course that you didn’t know before coming here? I progressed from the Interior, Architecture and Product Design (3D) course; this is more suited to me than a degree because it’s more practical and hands on, I get so much one to one time with the tutor and learn real life ‘on the job’ skills as opposed to mainly theoretical skills in a degree.

What’s your favourite thing about CCAD? I think the facilities are great here, we’ve got brand new computers, the workshops are fantastic, we’ve got a CNC router, 3D printers; one’s a dual head and the other’s a single head. The technicians are really brilliant and always on hand.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT Interview: Interviews normally start in October and take place throughout the year. We promise to interview any student who applies to one of our courses. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible. An initial assessment and guidance interview will be arranged for you to have the opportunity to find out which course best suits you. The interview is fairly informal and will usually be with a staff member teaching on the course. Interviews take place in a relaxed environment and are designed to guide you on the most suitable route. At interview you will be asked general questions regarding your application to us, some questions about yourself, your inspirations and aspirations. We ask students to bring some examples of their work, in the form of a portfolio, to discuss. The most important thing about this interview is to just be yourself and not to worry. The idea behind your interview is to show us the kind of things you are interested in, for us to see how passionately you talk about your work and to help us make sure we find the best course to suit you.

A portfolio is individual to every student and it is difficult to say exactly what it should consist of. As students will all have individual styles and will have been taught to produce work in different ways. We encourage students to bring anything that they feel will help support their application to the college. It is a good idea to order your work in a way that will make it easier to talk through e.g. you may want to begin with work that you produced at the very start of your current studies. Portfolio work can include any of the following: • Drawings

• Research notes

• Paintings

• Example of blog work

• Sketchbook work

• Fabric/sewing work

• Digital design work

• 3D Sculpture work

• Photographs

• Examples of using different media

• Short video clips • Animations • Screen prints
