NEW AWARDING BODY From September 2017, Level 2 and Level 3 Extended Diplomas studied at Cleveland College of Art & Design will be awarded by UAL: Awarding Body rather than BTEC. UAL is University Arts London, who are an industry leader in creative education. Moving to UAL as an awarding body allows us to provide our students with the opportunity to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding and provides a supportive transition from further to higher education. They are qualifications for artists developed by artists with a reputation for excellence which is recognised throughout the world.
CCAD also teaches degrees so you could move onto our university level campus and study at the college with the best art & design graduate employability in the UK for the past two years running.

ALAN VEST
ALASDHAIR WILLIS
Alan, studied Foundation Diploma in art & design at CCAD Middlesbrough before progressing to the Illustration for Commercial Application degree at CCAD Hartlepool. He has already achieved great success after being commissioned by The Guardian to produce illustrations for the newspaper’s new weekly column, ‘My Writing Day’ to create the illustrations for work which includes famous writers such as Ian Rankin, Hillary Mantel and William Boyd. Alan was also chosen by Creative Review as one of ten UK Graduates whose work was shown on digital billboards throughout major rail stations and shopping centres in the UK.
Alasdhair, who studied Foundation Diploma, is currently the Creative Director of Hunter. A creative genius, Alasdhair has been a painter, a magazine publisher, a furniture manufacturer, ran a strategic communications agency, The Anonymous Partner with clients such as Veuve Clicquot, a branding agency, Announcement, where he represents clients such as David Beckham as well as being the husband of leading fashion designer Stella McCartney.
CLAIRE BARROW Claire is a renowned fashion designer and known for her luxury hand-painted leather – she even created a leather jacket for Rihanna! Claire studied Level 3 BTEC in Fashion at CCAD and since then has enjoyed a fantastic fashion career – she made her debut at London Fashion Week in 2013 and has been named in Vogue USA as one of the UK based designers to watch!
JAMES SILVESTER James is currently the Head of Architecture at SSH Architects in Oman, leading some of the most prestigious projects in the Middle East. He left CCAD and went on to achieve a double first in architecture winning the RIBA White rose award. He now has over ten years at the cutting edge of the profession working with international companies in UK, China and Middle East.
HANNAH SMOKER Hannah, who studied A-Level Photography, is one of three RAF photographers attached to the world famous aerobatics team. She is not from a military background, she saw an advert for an RAF Photographer when she graduated from University of Lincoln and went for it. Hannah’s work is used by the MoD to promote the team around the world and she is one of only two women in the 120 strong Red Arrows team.

GREG LONSDALE Production Design
Greg studied with us after leaving Ian Ramsey School for an Extended Diploma in Art and Design as he wanted to explore a few areas of art and design before deciding on his favourite and creating his own style. He used the opportunities to make large scale projects on the course to create a portfolio of work which got him on to the BA (Hons) Production Design for Stage and Screen degree at CCAD Hartlepool. Greg
had lots of opportunities on his degree of working on TV productions such as Hospital People (which starred Russell Brand) and worked with people such as Tina Sherifa Hicks who is a BBC TV production designer and art director for programmes such as Waterloo Road.

SILAS FIELD Illustration for Commercial Application
Silas is one of many students who chooses to study with us for college and university. He started at CCAD studying our popular Extended Diploma in Graphic Design at CCAD Middlesbrough. He wanted to learn more about branding and the main principles of design before deciding to progress his work in an illustrative direction by studying for a BA (Hons) Illustration for Commercial Application. Silas got the
opportunity to exhibit and sell his work in many different locations during his time at CCAD, ending with an exhibition of his final major project in London, alongside his classmates – the first ever illustration degree to exhibit as part of the Free Range shows in London.
DIFFERENT WAYS TO STUDY We offer students the opportunity to study in ways which are complementary to their learning style. If you prefer to be assessed through coursework, we have a range of UAL Diplomas. If you prefer a study route which involves examinations, we offer the A-Level route for students.
