Bambi Enterprises – from garage to global success 35 YEARS IN business and just getting stronger, Bambi Enterprises is proof that a great product, entrepreneurial flair, hard work, passion and a few other key ingredients can transform an interest into a strong, sustainable business. Managing Director of the family owned and operated manufacturing business Peter Witney credits “liking what you do” as the number one prerequisite for business success. In fact, if it weren’t for the ‘fun factor’, Mr Witney could still be part of the profession in which he was working before starting the business. To understand why, it pays to know how the Bambi story unfolded. The story began in the late 70’s when Witney, like so many Central Coast residents, was commuting to Sydney for work as a commercial accountant. The first spark of the Bambi business idea was ignited in 1979 while Witney was working with a company that manufactured lambswool car seat covers. He observed three things about the manufacturing process – it was relatively simple, it appealed to him as something he could enjoy, and it produced a lot of offcuts. So Witney decided to salvage the lambswool offcuts and take them home at the end of each working week. Known for his entrepreneurial spirit, it came as no surprise to family and friends when Witney and his wife Janita began transforming the offcuts into lambswool baby car seat covers from the garage of their Tascott home. As demand for the product grew, local
Bambi Enterprises CEO, Ross Stuart with Peter Witney stitchers were contracted to assist, materials were purchased as opposed to being salvaged from off-cuts, and what began as a weekend hobby quickly turned into a growing national business venture. Witney credits the early success of the business to Janita who juggled raising four young children and managing the household with running the business while he continued to work in Sydney. “Bambi would simply not have happened without her,” he says. In fact it was Janita who singlehandedly secured the national Target account after making a trip to the retail giant’s headquarters in Melbourne to pitch their baby seat covers to the buying team. This was the impetus the Witneys needed to move out of the garage and into a factory. And so Bambi Enterprises was born.
By Phaedra Pym
Evolving with ever changing consumer demand As the market drew away from lambswool baby car seat covers towards lower priced, vibrantly printed seat covers, Witney knew it was time to rethink the business’ core product. “I’ve always followed where the business and the profits are,” he says. “As the Chinese took over the manufacture of car seat covers we moved more and more into bedding.” Ironically now Bambi Enterprises is exporting their bedding products to China. The company kicked off the evolution into bedding products with a range of woollen under blankets. But despite producing a high quality product, there was little consumer interest until, as luck would have it, a well-known television personality began advertising a New Zealand woollen under blanket. Almost overnight, the phones started ringing and they were inundated with orders. The next turning point in Bambi Enterprises’ evolution came when Witney made a submission to Harvey Norman at the time when the chain was just launching its manchester range. Bambi submitted a new washable woollen quilt and, despite scepticism that their product wouldn’t sell due to its high quality and price tag, it was an instant hit with Harvey Norman’s clientele. Fast forward fifteen years and Harvey Norman remains one of Bambi Enterprises’ best clients. In fact the two companies share a great mutual respect. Bambi Enterprises has won numerous Harvey Norman Supplier of the Year Awards and Witney openly praises Harvey Norman for being one of the few major national retailers that genuinely supports Australian manufacturers.

Today the Witneys employ around 30 staff and supply a full range of bedding products for bedding specialist retailers, who are now their core buyers. The manufacturing side of the business has gradually reduced over the years from 100% to about 40% today. Passionate about innovation, Witney places a great emphasis on research and ongoing product development. Bambi has continued to move with consumer demand and the company takes pride in evolving its range, especially in the area of renewable, eco friendly and anti-allergy fibres. Bambi has also successfully developed markets in New Zealand, Korea and China (their main international market due to the Chinese people’s love of Australian wool). The company recently appointed a distributor in China who is contracted to purchase a quarter of a million dollars worth of product annually. A true family affair The Witneys have four children, three of whom who are actively involved in Bambi Enterprises. Their eldest daughter Louise is a teacher/psychologist, Greg is Operations Manager, Emma is Assistant Operations Manager and Tim is Sales Manager. But the family connection at Bambi Enterprises
The Witney Team: Operations Manager Greg, Peter, Assistant Operations Manager Emma and Sales Manager Tim doesn’t end there. Emma’s husband Ian works in despatch and logistics, while Louise’s husband Kevin installs patterns for the quilting machines. In terms of a succession plan, Witney says it is a work in progress. While admitting to being ready to slow down, he still comes to the office four days a week. “When you run a business it’s hard to let go of the risk,” he says.
Peter Witney’s top tips for business success • Love what you do. • Always strive for quality products and exceptional service. • Ongoing research and development to stay ahead of product innovations and market trends. • Be persistent, sometimes you pick up business by just being there.
Expansion plans Bambi Enterprises has grown to the point where the company has outgrown its current premises at West Gosford. They have opened a warehouse in Perth to take the immediate pressure off and are currently investigating potential sites at Somersby that are large enough to house a facility that’s twice the size of their current factory.
• Have your finger on the financial pulse of the business at all times. “Being an accountant has definitely been one of the keys to our business success.” • Build strong great relationships with your buyers. • Listen carefully to what your retailers and their customers want and follow through by delivering it.

Edgar Adams discusses local issues
Not much for Coast in State Budget
Thanks to the performance of our 3 Amigos the former Member for Wyong, David Harris, has thrown his hat in the ring and the ALP has endorsed him. Why not? He was a very good local member and in just one term achieved more than his predecessor did in nearly 20 years. Harris will walk in and while he will be in Opposition he will be a strong voice for Wyong as well as the region. This month our Cover Story is about a family business started in a garage at home 35 years ago by Peter and Jacinta Witney. Its a great story of a local business that has prospered through thick and thin due to hard work, passion and sound business practices. As with all our cover stories this year there is a lesson for all of us in it. Last month our Cover Story featured Kerrie Guest, until recently Managing Director of Walker Bros. Sawmills Pty Ltd. It was a story about, family values, commitment to the business she inherited – a responsibility she took very seriously, strong management principles and resilience. She was also an advocate for the industry she worked in.
Kerrie Guest died on the 17th June after a long illness. We were privileged to talk to her only a few weeks earlier. We asked John Halkett an international advocate in the forest industry and respected in the timber industry in Australia to write an Obituary to Kerrie Guest who he knew quite well over many years. LAST MONTH’S STATE Budget was all about Western Sydney with billions flowing into a raft of projects at the expense of the Central Coast and makes one wonder about the Baird Government’s commitment to our region. We may have voted for the 3 Amigos who are now in hot water with the ICAC but that was because the previous government was on the nose and the local Libs threw a huge and unnecessary amount of money into their campaign. We now know how they got it! Meanwhile, the roads budget is mostly for continuation of work already started plus 2 new projects at Terrigal and Warnervale (total $20 million), some for planning the widening of Pacific Highway from Narara to Ourimbah and through Wyong, new school buildings at Point Clare, $2.7 for redevelopment of Gosford Hospital (somewhere along the line $350 million for Gosford over the next number of years was left for the Health Minister to announce at a future time but this was quite obscure) and a few dollars for a Renal Dialysis unit at Long Jetty Hospital. And that’s all folks. Unless there other bits hidden away, to be announced in the lead up to the Election. All other funding attributed to the region is simply smoke and mirrors. (Read the Minister’s Media Release on Page 23.) The State Elections are in March 2015 and Central Coast voters need to tally up

Gosford Council ushers in new leadership era GOSFORD COUNCIL HAS welcomed three leading senior local government directors on board as part of its revamped executive leadership team. Council’s Chief Executive Officer Paul Anderson has been joined by the new Director of Governance and Planning Danielle Dickson, Director of Community Growth Judy Jaeger and Director of Construction and Operations Stan Antczak. “Earlier this year we agreed on a new organisational structure that is designed to help create a long-term sustainable future for Council,” Anderson said. “This included a major recruitment drive to make sure we have the very best senior executives setting the direction for our region and driving change throughout our organisation. “All three bring with them years of best practice and knowledge from other councils and organisations, and I’m confident they will provide a significant boost for this Council and the community. I’ve already tasked them with helping us bring in a new era of internal and external service delivery standards, including better business practices for our organisation and customer service for our community.” Following eight months as Council’s Director of Environment and Planning, Danielle Dickson now accepts additional responsibility by heading up the newly created Governance and Planning Directorate, which includes development, compliance, corporate and city planning, and governance and business services. “I welcome the opportunity to continue

In particular, the one-stop online portal for planning and development services, with stage one due to be launched in July,” Dickson said. “Making sure the region and our community are supported by long-term, sustainable and coordinated planning is something I am also very passionate about, and with the help of the new leadership team and our staff I’m sure we can deliver it.” Judy Jaeger comes to Council following eight years as a senior manager at
Newcastle City Council and will lead the new Community Growth Directorate, which includes libraries, community and economic development, and corporate business operations. Central Coast Community College transforms for the future IN AN EXCITING move, the new Executive Director of Central Coast Community College, Jonathan Davis, has announced a restructure that will position the College for the future. “The NSW State Government recently introduced Smart and Skilled which provides funding for vocational education and training aligned with community needs. We have restructured to maximise our core strengths and enable a greater focus on a number of key areas that will build on Smart and Skilled and provide just what the people of the Central Coast want from their community college,” said Davis. The College will offer programs in growth areas such as aged care and disability and will continue to build on its successful business training unit that provides customised training as well as courses in business administration, management and training and assessment. “Customised training is a growth area with many employers investing in their staff with content relevant to their particular business, and delivered on site or on campus depending on their preference”, said Davis. President of the Central Coast Community College Board, Monique Webber, said “The College is set for a transformation that will ensure its relevance to the community for another 32 years and more. Our mission to champion lifelong learning has never been more relevant than today as unemployment rises. “We will continue to support our youth, unemployed and people living with disability by providing relevant training to prepare them for the future. These are very exciting times for the College and the Board fully supports the consolidation and ultimate transformation of the College under Jonathan’s leadership.” Central Coast Community College, located close to the train line at Ourimbah, has a proud

Electric bike retailer happy at Long Jetty Council secures airport and employment lands
Wayne and Jill Nixey A FEW YEARS ago Wayne and Jill Nixey made the decision to move back to the Central Coast after ten years in Fremantle, Western Australia where they had established a business selling electric bikes and folding bikes. They acquired a property on The Entrance Road at Long Jetty where they established a showroom for their range of bikes. The location of the property just happened to be very close to the Tuggerah Lakes Cycleway that runs from The Entrance to Chittaway along the edge of the lake as well as a car park for cyclists and it provided an opportunity to set up a bike hire service that has proved to be highly popular. When they left Fremantle they left the business in the hands of a stockist who has expanded the outlets in WA to seven. Meanwhile Nixey has recently appointed a stockist in Sydney and Newcastle as well as in Tasmania. Nixey says that electric bikes are gaining in popularity particularly in hilly areas however their range includes folding bikes and
mountain bikes and they also sell conversion kits. He says that electric bikes are also popular as there is no license or registration required and no motor vehicle insurance is needed either. From their Long Jetty headquarters Wayne Nixey designs and modifies their bike range which they have manufactured to their specifications in China and imported and assembled ready for distribution. The Nixey’s employ four people in the business. “Its been a good first year, we are quite happy with the move back to the Coast,” said Nixey. But he attributes his success to the things that sets them apart from their competitors, “we have been established for many years, we know what our customers are looking for – the best bike at an affordable price.” “We understand that not all electric bikes are the same, that’s why we are constantly researching the latest worldwide trends and take great pride in the premium quality of our bikes,” he said.
AT ITS 25TH June meeting Wyong Council agreed to purchase over 230 hectares of strategic land holdings for the Shire for $17 million. Mayor Doug Eaton said both holdings were of strategic importance to job creation in the Shire, one for the proposed regional airport and the other for future employment and environmental offset lands. Council will invest $10 million in over 87 hectares of land in the Warner Business Park at Jilliby formerly owned by Terrace Tower Group. The land covers around one third of the regional airport investigation site identified in November 2013. It also contains an existing Part 3A approval for an industrial subdivision. “This is the biggest single land holding in the investigation site,” said Mayor Doug Eaton. “Securing this land now shows how serious we are about establishing a regional airport by 2020 to help grow the local economy and boost jobs on the Coast.” Council will also purchase over 144 hectares of land at Doyalson for $7 million. The Woodbury Park land, also owned by Terrace Tower Group is adjacent to the Freeway Link Road at the northern boundary of the Shire and will provide opportunities for future employment and environmental offset lands. “Both holdings are important for sustainable economic development in the Shire,” said Clr Eaton. The decision follows a successful lobbying visit to Canberra last week and an earlier meeting in Wyong with Assistant CONTINUED ON PAGE 24

Kerrie Guest:
Great News For Small Business
Many mourn loss of Central Coast business leader and much-loved daughter of timber industry By John Halkett, Forestlands Consulting A THIRD GENERATION member of a pioneering NSW sawmilling family, Kerrie Guest, aged 67, passed away recently in Gosford after a long illness. The family business Walker Bros was established in 1933 when brothers David and Alex Walker purchased Tom White’s sawmill at Ourimbah Creek on the Central Coast. Kerrie was CEO of the company and one of four women, all descendants of the founders, involved in the directorship of the timber business based at North Gosford. She was the granddaughter of Alex Walker and had been associated with the business since birth. Kerrie Guest also had a powerful influence on the NSW timber industry and was loved and respected throughout the wider industry. She was a strong supporter of industry organisations and played a key role in the growth and development of Timber and Building Materials Association (TABMA) Australia. CEO of TABMA, Colin Fitzpatrick, said Kerrie was a member of the board of TABMA for a number of years. “She was a strong supporter of TABMA values and ideals and Walker Bros have always employed trainees and apprentices through the TABMA group training scheme. “As a board member Kerrie provided valuable input as a representative of the timber merchant sector. Her opinions were always carefully considered and constructive, he said. Kerrie had been instrumental in the commercial success of Walker Bros. She was a believer in sticking together and kept the
Kerrie Guest company running successfully through the toughest of times, including the massive fire, which burnt most of their buildings and equipment to the ground in 1995. Kerrie was a great advocate for forestry and the timber industry across Australia. In a recent interview she said: “Timber’s sustainability is what we all should be focusing on. When we operated our sawmill we worked the same areas of forest for 60 years. “Nothing will convince me that steel is more viable than timber. Just look at the difference in manufacturing energy consumption – and timber actually stores carbon – not the case with steel or concrete, she said. A POLITICAL PARTY to represent the interests of small business was registered as an association in February this year and launched in April with 50 members so far and is now seeking to find 500 other like-minded people to join so that it can be registered as an official political party. The Small Business Party of Australia (“SBPA) is the brain-child of long time, self-employed Business Consultant John Codrington of Ourimbah. Codrington says that he and the initial members of the SBPA recognise that the major parties no longer satisfactorily represent the interests of the Australian populace, especially those of the near 60% of the Australian workforce employed in Australian small business. Rather than cutting Government services and jobs, the SBPA believe the Government should be cutting the red tape which puts unnecessary burdens on small business and hinders business growth. “Of the numerous Associations throughout Australia representing small business, most of these associations are ‘apolitical’, their lobbying of the government to obtain benefits or changes in legislation, killing off redtape and regulations tends to fall on deaf ears, because these Associations lack the necessary political muscle to make themselves effective because of this stance Codrington commented. When the SBPA has its 500 plus members, the SBPA will enforce its views by representation in the Senate, CONTINUED ON PAGE 24

BUSINESS NEWS
JobsOnTheCoast expands website Local jobs website JobsOnTheCoast.com. au is about to expand to make it more useful to look for specific skills and provide a forum for those who want to advertise their skills. SkillsOnTheCoast.com.au was launched last month to let employers know there are those with skills and experience or in training and they are on the jobs market. The value for employers is they can “shop” for the skills they want to recruit for free on the same website. “Employers looking to recruit usually have to advertise a position then sort through many hopefuls as well as those who have the experience or skill in demand,” said JobsOnTheCoast Founder Tim O’Brien. “This new site will allow them to see who is out there looking for work, advancement or a career change based on their abilities.”
Mr O’Brien said the changing jobs climate meant that some industries were retrenching people with experience and skills. These people can now list individually on SkillsOnTheCoast to be seen by potential employers. The site has been developed because of feedback from employers and from those who want to “put themselves out there” to potential hirers. As it gains momentum, it has the potential to save the money and time normally associated with recruitment, especially when specialised experience and skills are involved. It has drawn support from NSW Trade and Investment, Regional Development Australia (Central Coast) and HunterNet Group Training. Negotiations are proceeding with other training providers interested in a presence on the site.
Mr O’Brien said the same philosophy behind the success of the jobs website would apply, namely that people want to work in the region where they live so they look to find work, advancement or skills improvement locally. “By bringing people with skills together on the one site, it affords those individuals and their potential employers more scope than would be possible by single employment providers,” he said. These people have skills and experience that the Central Coast needs to retain to be competitive with regions and to ensure there is a speedy return to prosperity when the economy turns around, he said. The site is accessed by a username and password on the JobsOnTheCoast.com.au website.
Positive talks in Canberra REPRESENTATIVES FROM WYONG and Gosford Councils were in Canberra in mid July for talks with the Minister for Education, Christopher Pyne and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communication, Paul Fletcher, and representatives for the Treasurer Joe Hockey and Minister for Infrastructure Warren Truss. Wyong Mayor, Doug Eaton, said the meetings had left the two Councils feeling positive about the future of the region. “So far our meetings have been really positive. I think we’ve all come away with actions to progress some of the pressing issues facing the Central Coast. Minister Pyne was genuinely interested in the our plans for improving education on the Central Coast and renewed his commitment to election promises on education and agreed to provide technical support to both Councils to assist in our University proposals. The Minister also provided some welcome advice on these projects to ensure we get the best out of our proposals.” Mayor Eaton said. Gosford City Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Anderson, said the meeting with Paul Fletcher had provided the Councils with options to progress solutions to the Central Coast’s mobile phone black spots and the need for better broadband services. “We’ll pull together an analysis of mobile coverage across our local government areas so that the Councils can submit a regional coverage map highlighting the black spots on the Central Coast. Along with Wyong, we will investigate what Council-owned infrastructure can be used, particularly in those rural areas that suffer

Jamie Briggs MP (Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development), Karen McNamara (Member for Dobell), Cr Doug Eaton (Mayor, WSC), Julie Vaughan (Manager Community Partnerships & Planning, WSC) the most, to deliver mobile and internet services. This is a great example of how Federal and local government can work together to deliver better services for the Coast ,” he said. The Councils have also gained good support from the National General Assembly of Local Government, with two of Wyong Council’s items supported by the Assembly which was held in the same week. This will see the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) call on the Commonwealth Government to establish a Regional Australia Tourism program to support and fund regional and rural councils tourism efforts. The ALGA will also call for a review of the structure, operation and fund-
ing arrangements for Regional Development Australia to ensure they align with the strategic directions of Local Government. Wyong Mayor Doug Eaton and Gosford Councillor Craig Doyle met with Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss’ Chief of Staff to discuss plans for a Central Coast Regional Airport. “The Central Coast is the ninth largest region in Australia but the only one not to have a regional airport to support the local population and economy. The Federal Government’s support is essential to getting it built and operational by 2020 and today we got a strong message that this will occur which is fantastic,” said Mayor Eaton

ADVICE Award Wage Increase – What do I do? MPLOYERS
ur arge can anage rce, r trade reduce s comp
By Warwick Ryan, Partner, SWAAB Attorneys
ck Ryan com.au WITH THE NEW tax year upon us, for
many businesses, workers compensation
s policy periods turn-over and budgets are um Building, being finalised. Amongst all this activity, the RINA NSW 2250
increase in award wages and the national minimum wage, can be missed, which can cause headaches for many businesses. Last week the Fair Work Commission handed down its determination in regard to its annual national minimum wage review. The Commission awarded all national system employees (excluding state government employees) a 3% increase on top of the minimum wage, effective from the first pay period commencing 1 July 2014.
Currently the minimum wage for a full time employee aged 21 and over stands at $622.20 per week or $16.37 per hour. With the increase, the national minimum wage for a full time employee aged 21 and over will increase to $640.90 per week or $16.87 per hour. The increase applies to minimum entitlements only. This means the increase will directly affect employees who pay their staff in line with the national minimum wage (and not in excess of it). It will also affect employees whose wage increases under collective/enterprise agreement where the annual increase is determined in line with the national minimum wage determination. If you are already paying your staff in excess of the national minimum wage inclusive of the increase then you do not need to pass any further increase on to employees as it will already be absorbed into the above minimum wage payment. Casual employees not covered by an award or agreement who rely on the national minimum wage will also now enjoy a casual loading of 25%. The increase to the minimum casual loading brings it
into line with that enjoyed by employees covered by modern awards. As discussed above with regard to the minimum wage increase, most employers will already be paying in line or above the minimum casual loading and will therefore not have to pass on any further increase to their employees. It is important to take the time when the minimum wage increase is determined each year to review your rates of pay whether provided for in enterprise/collective agreements, industry awards, individual flexibility agreements or contracts of employment to ensure that your business is protected against any future liability or penalties that may arise for the underpayment of wages. Failure to review the minimum wage increases and if underpayments occur, the FWC is imposing harsh penalties on any non-compliant businesses. It is important that you comply with increases at the beginning of each tax year and implement them into your payment procedures. Council secures airport and employment lands Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Jamie Briggs. “The Federal Government’s support for this will be essential to getting it built and operational by 2020 and we had a great meeting in Canberra last week with senior officials and the Chief of Staff for Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss. “They were very supportive of our regional airport plans and we are to write to them to trigger Federal assistance regarding planning and technical approvals in line with the Coalition’s election commitment. “They also saw the airport as being eligible for federal funding through RDA grants in upcoming years and we will be looking at all avenues for public and private funding,” he said. Earlier last month Council also met with NSW Premier Mike Baird and Central Coast Minister Rob Stokes and took them on a visit to the proposed airport site and other projects in the north Warnervale area. “The Premier was clearly blown away by
Stevens Group to start work on Narara subdivision Road and Pacific Highway at Pymble which they are redeveloping into an office for Creightons Funeral Service, a subsidiary of Palmdale Group. The Group’s flagship property The Vintage in the Hunter Valley has been one of their most successful and a major expansion is currently being planned. Elsewhere the Group has projects underway at Kurri Kurri on the Hunter Expressway with a service station, Red Rooster and Subway stores,
a signature development on the New England Highway at Rutherford with the development of a 2.5 hectare site for a service station and fast food outlets, a $20 million Highway Service Centre on the South Kempsey Interchange of the Pacific Highway and have plans for a 120 lot subdivision at Iluka. They have also purchased 8 hectares of land at Bunderra in Lake Macquarie and have a DA pending for 90 residential lots which they will start marketing next month.
National tier 1 ranking for busy Pacific Link be recognized as a Tier 1 provider is a huge achievement – not just for us but also for the Central Coast and Lower Hunter regions which we serve,” said Pacific Link Chairman, David Bacon. “Of more than 200 NSW-based providers, less than 15 have achieved Tier 1 status. He attributes the Tier 1 ranking to three major aspects of Pacific Link’s work in recent years, including: • The appointment of a skills-based board to guide the organisation • Pacific Link research projects leading to evidenced-based planning • The development of new and innovative housing programs in close collaboration with Housing NSW and associated NSW Government authorities • The growth of operating surpluses that allow Pacific Link to reinvest in new housing initiatives. number of State and National awards. “We are now engaged in the refurbishment of the Dunbar Way Estate in North Gosford – updating an estate with more than 90 homes that might otherwise have fallen below standard,” said Keith Gavin. “We are also working with Housing NSW on a number of Pacific Link initiatives to provide both affordable and social housing,” he said. “The Central Coast has 30% fewer homes set aside for community and social housing than the average for NSW. Crisis centres are finding it extremely difficult to cope and people, including the elderly, disabled and young mothers with children are sometimes in desperate need. “It’s up to us as an organization, and all of us as a community, to build a sustainable society that provides for those who need our help,” he said. “We need to plan for the future and we need to be active now.” “Being recognized as a Tier 1 provider will assist in our endeavours.”

our overall vision for the managed growth of this region and we’ve been very pleased with the support for the proposed regional airport expressed by both levels of government,” Cr Eaton said. Gosford City Council’s Chief Executive Officer Paul Anderson said that establishing a new regional airport was a very important part of the Central Coast’s future. “There’s no doubt that having an airport built and operating here in our region would be a major, long-term boost for the local economy,” Mr Anderson said. “Not only will an airport help us tackle the huge demands facing the Central Coast’s transport systems in coming years, but it will also deliver positive flow on effects for local jobs, tourism and other investment. “Along with Wyong Shire Council, we were very pleased to be able to highlight this regional priority at the national level during meetings with federal government ministers this month.”

FUNNY BUSINESS
A CITY BOY, Rodney, moved to the country and bought a donkey from an old farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The next day the farmer drove up and said, “Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died.” Rodney replied, “Well then, just give me my money back.” The farmer said, “Can’t do that. I went and spent it already.” Rodney said, “OK then, at least give me the donkey.” The farmer asked, “What ya gonna do with him?” Rodney, “I’m going to raffle him off.” Farmer, “ You can’t raffle off a dead donkey!” Rodney, “Sure I can. Watch me. I just won’t tell anybody he is dead.” A month later the farmer met up with Rodney and asked, “What happened with that dead donkey?” Rodney, “I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $900. Farmer, “Didn’t anyone complain?” Rodney, “Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back.” A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store, but she couldn’t find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, “Do these turkeys get any bigger?” “No ma’am,” he replied, “they’re dead”. A truck driver was driving along on the freeway and a sign comes up that reads, “Low Bridge Ahead.” Before he knows it, the bridge is right ahead of him and he gets stuck under the bridge. Cars are backed up for miles.
Finally, a police car comes along. The cop gets out of his car and walks to the truck driver, puts his hands on his hips and says, “Got stuck, huh?” The truck driver says, “No, I was delivering this bridge and ran out of gas.” The cop got out of his car and the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window. “I’ve been waiting all day for you,” the cop said. The kid replied, “Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could.”
