ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES date:

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. For additional support in spiritual parenting and to learn more about creating transforming environments in your home, be sure to pick up HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource from your church, or download it at HomeFrontMag.com. You can also access the HomeFront app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

Younger Kids

Did You Know?

Your younger child may blame others for his mistakes. Remind him that everyone makes mistakes. Reinforce the idea that it’s important for us to ask for forgiveness when necessary rather than try to blame others for our actions.

• Simeon and Anna were part of a community of people who followed God’s laws and waited faithfully for the promised Redeemer. • God honored their faith by blessing Simeon and Anna with the gift of meeting His precious Son.

Older Kids

• In obedience to Jewish law, Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple to have their Son circumcised. This ceremony was performed on the eighth day of a boy’s life. • When Simeon saw Jesus in the temple, God revealed to him the fact that Jesus would be the One who would save God’s people from their sins.

Remember Verse

Your older child is becoming more aware of the consequences of her actions. As you talk your child through various situations, discuss the possible outcomes of her decisions. This may help her make wise decisions in the future.

Teachable Moments

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17

After reading Luke 2:21–40, discuss the following together: • How did God honor Simeon and Anna’s faith? • How did Simeon respond when he saw Jesus? • In what areas do you struggle to have faith in God?

Blessing

For more information about blessing your child see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource.

A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may the truth of God’s Word sink deep into your heart. May your understanding of God’s great love for you grow every day. © 2014 David C Cook.
