How Taken: Injection under the skin (subcutaneous) Used for: Moderate-to-severe Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis in adults and moderate-to-severe Crohn’s disease in pediatric patients age 6 and older. Medication Indication: Reduces signs and symptoms and induces and maintains clinical response in adult patients with moderately-to-severely active Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis who have had an inadequate response to conventional therapy. Most Common Side Effects: Injection site reactions such as redness, rash, swelling, itching, pain, or bruising; upper respiratory infections (including sinus infections); headaches, rash, and nausea.

Other: Serious infections have included tuberculosis (TB) and infections caused by viruses, fungi, and other bacteria that have spread throughout the body. Lupus-like reactions and liver problems are rare but have also been reported. Another rare risk is cancer known as hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma.
