Softgoods Project The goal of this semester long project was to practice real world product development, and create a product to fill the ‘white space’ we had found after doing market research. The process started with market research to allow us to find a place in the market for our product. Next, we defined our customer, and created inspiration boards to design from. Sketches were then presented to a panel of our peers to decide on a product to develop. From the drawing, we then created a paper mock-up to create a pattern from. From that pattern, a muslin mock-up was made. After corrections were made on that, the final bag was then produced in heavy Cordura fabric.

CUSTOMER PROFILE
Jane is a young working professional. She is unmarried, and in her early thirties. She lives in a metropolitan city, and commutes 15-30 minutes by bike to and from work. The city she lives in has varying weather, and she commutes most of the time regardless, requiring a bag that can keep everything dry. Depending on the day, she may need her laptop for work, and will carry a bigger bag if she plans on stopping for groceries on her way home. She likes to go out with friends after work, but is uncomfortable carrying a large backpack out with her, so she sometimes carries a tote bag that is more difficult to bike with since it is easier to carry if she is going out after work. On the weekends, she enjoys short day trips on her bike, or camping and hiking when the weather permits.
