Go Green Project Studio 2 TINT102
Go Green Project Studio 2 TINT102 Spring 2022 Instructors: Guliz Tasdemir, Ozlem Baysal, Zeynep Telyakar, Cihat Caglar Mugla, Turkey Go Green Project is an activity space for an elementary school at Mugla, Koycegiz. The area is zoned with respect to three main aims which are greenhouse and plant instruction, cooking, also gathering and dining areas. In the area, students will get the chance to learn how to grow their own vegetables. After that, they can earn the necesarry skillsfor cooking healthy and green based meals at the working together units. Semi-public areas in multiple locations also allow students to relax, eat or drink their beverages in peace whilst they can still enjoy their peers doing the greenhouse activities. The location of the space establishes an inner street inbetween the school and helps with the rooting process.

Two shipping containers have divided into three parts considering a continious loop of activities. First container is used for greenhouse planting workshops in a full size. Second container is separated into two equal spaces for cooking and gathering units. These units are connected with the semi-public gathering area where visitor can watch the workshops.
The metal structured top cover established the zoning in terms of greenhouse workshops. It created the continuity among the surfaces and the figure-backgroung relationship. The circulation band and the approaching points of the area are guiding the visitors throughout their whole experience while creating an inner street with the school and the sports center.
What a lovely weather to relax here !

Interior space includes gathering and working areas. Dining and gathering areas are located mainly in the corners for a better landscape view of Koycegiz. Built-in furnitures and adjustable details are combined to create a more safe space for the visitors. Cooking area was designed for both children and the instructor to work at the same time. After getting the fresh vegetables from the greenhouse, they can prepare dishes together. Since the main concern in cooking is looking after elementary school children, this together working unit works for both heights. Moreover, the kitchen essentials which include fire and electric might be dangerous for the children to work with, so these gadgets are located in the instructor area and the separate counter where it is unreachable for them.
This sitting hub has the perfect view.

Working Together Unit is helpful to us.
The relation between the greenhouse essentials and the interior space comes from an activity loop. After spending time with the plants; planting, cleaning and placing them is followed by preparing them to be cooked. Previously washed and placed vegetables are ready to be cooked in the Sink and Storage Unit. Students and instructors can access those and start the workshop of cooking together. The area elaborates visitor to enjoy each other’s company while pursuing the activity or relaxing with their beverages. The semi-open units, which are accesible through the dining area are also suitable for enjoying the workshops. The instructors are able to look out for children who are in the open area as well. That is with the help of individual counter for the adults. The lighting system is adjustable for the current occasion. The bulb lights can be moved through the metal top cover for custom lighting in the space. Even if the polycarbonate is sunlightfriendly, the light could be placed in the sitting hub or the dining tables too. Moreover, the space does not need a separate pantry due to having storage drawers under the built-in benches around the corners and inside of the counters. Composite cushions are used since the weather conditions could change. That is also a hygenic option to store the composite cushions for the benches and the open gathering spaces.

The top cover’s beginning point comes from the ivy rooting plant hubs. Ivy’s are helpful for the amount of sunlight that the area gets. However, the most vital aspect of the sunlight is related to planting process in the greenhouse. The planting sytem contains pvc pipes which have holes for every plant to grow individually and with a separate irrigration pipe for the water flow. This system allows plants to grow in a static humidity condition and polycarbonate material establishes an convenient enviroment for the plants. It creates a balanced moisture and temperature level. The thermal efficiency is maintained also in the growing shelves as the whole facade is faced with the same material. The reason for the facade ivy’s is that it protects pipes and the plants from the extreme sun damage while acting as a buffer.
