“Route 66” This performance task includes skills that we have learned all year. The final task will use the 20 point rubric that we have used all year long. You will turn in each part daily so that it will not be lost. Each part will count toward the final task grade. Show me that you have mastered all of the skills and process standards this year!!! Part 1: Strand: Data Analysis You will need to sample a population of at least 20 people to find out how many cars each person’s family owns and how many family members there are. You will need to take additional notes on the color of cars for each person and the number of each gender in each family including themselves. You will need to provide a chart/table to collect the data. Use any appropriate graph to display your information. Write a paragraph drawing at least two conclusions from your data. Part 2: Strand: Algebra
Use the data from Part 1.
You will create a scatter plot of the data (number of cars vs. number of family members) and find the line of best fit . You will find the slope and y-intercept. The line of best fit will be written in slope-intercept form and in standard form. You will identify the equation as a relation, function and/or arithmetic sequence and explain why . Part 3: Strand: Data Analysis and probability You will create 3 separate Venn Diagrams : #1 Green cars/Females; #2 Red cars/Black cars/Males; #3 Males/Females/White cars. You will use set theory notation and shade the Venns to represent the information in each Venn 2 different ways of their choice (i.e. intersection, union, etc...) You will find the probability from the Venns of choosing a male with a black car and the probability of choosing a family with a male and female that has a white car. Part 4: strand: Algebra You will solve the following through a system of equations: Car A costs $18,000 and gets 30 miles to the gallon while Car B costs $12,000 and gets 20
miles to the gallon. When will both cars cost the same? How many miles would you have to drive in each car to equal the same cost? How long would it take you to use up that many gallons? Gas cost $1.88 a gallon. This will involve writing the equations, telling how you found the equations, solving and graphing. You will write a paragraph conclusion explaining your solution and what it means. Part 5: Strand: numbers and operations You plan on driving to California about 2000 miles away. How many feet is equivalent to 2000 miles? What is this number written in scientific notation ? Change the 2000 miles to inches. What is this number written in scientific notation? Part 6: Strand; Geometry You will research 3 cars for their dimensions. How long is an average car? Cars parallel park on the sides of roads in cities. What is the distance between Panther Parkway and Longhorn Lane on Wildcat Path? How many cars can park between Panther Parkway and longhorn Lane on Wildcat Path, if Wildcat Path is 100 feet long? Show all of your work and write answers in complete sentences.
