Chinese insecticides: shrinking in market share but still carry weight The output share of insecticides in China’s pesticide industry has seen a decline in the recent decade, decreasing from 65.8% in 2000 to 19.2% in 2013, however, insecticides still hold an important place in Chinese pesticide industry and the global pesticide market. For example, in the global market in 2012, Chinese insecticides accounted for 28% (by market value) of the global total, with its sales value hitting USD15 billion. The Chinese insecticide market has changed a lot in the past decade, since the public has been paying growing attention to food safety and environment problems. At the same time, along with insecticide problems like resistance, the variety of insecticides has been updated faster and faster. Besides, competition in insecticide market is also increasingly serious. Rice crop is still the largest insecticide consumer in China. The insecticide volume used on rice crop accounts for about 10% of the total pesticide consumption volume and about 20% of agriculture-used insecticide volume in China. Because of insecticides’ high toxicity and resistance problems, their consumption volume used on rice has always been changing. All in all, Chinese rice insecticide market is so large that a great amount of domestic and foreign agrochemical enterprises pay attention to it, while the whole insecticide market is active and changing. In CCM’s recent report Competitive Insecticides in China, the global and domestic insecticide market had been introduced, and major insecticides in China also had been ranked out by various index. In addition, market trends of rice insecticides in domestic market had also been detailed.
