LANXESS and Royal DSM LANXESS is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of EUR 5.06 billion in 2009 and currently around 14,500 employees in 23 countries. The company is represented at 42 production sites worldwide. On14 Dec 2010, LANXESS announced that it has reached an agreement regarding the sale of the remaining part of DSM Elastomers with Royal DSM, the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company.

BASF and Cognis On December 10, 2010 BASF successfully completed its acquisition of Cognis Holding GmbH from Cognis Holding Luxembourg S.à r.l. controlled by Permira Funds, GS Capital Partners and SV Life Sciences yesterday.By combining their product ranges, technical skills and market expertise, BASF and Cognis are now even better placed to help their customers meet the latest consumer needs.

Royal DSM and ICD Royal DSM, the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company announced on 17 Feb 2011 that it has signed an agreement to acquire the majority shareholding in Shandong ICD High Performance Fibre Co Ltd. (“ICD”), based in Shandong province, China. The acquisition of the majority share in ICD will bring complementary manufacturing and technology assets to DSM in addition to strengthening the company’s presence in this key market. For DSM, the acquisition of a majority share in ICD represents a key milestone in the global development of its high performance materials business, DSM Dyneema. The result of a survey carried out by the renowned U.S. business magazine Fortune ( available on March 21, 2011) showed : BASF is the world’s most admired German company and also ranks as the top company in the global chemical industry. It can be seen that it is a trend that taking expansion in high growth economies as one of the growth drivers by merger and acquisition.The strategic step of acquisition can not only acheive sales growth but also can make companies much more stronger.
