UA&P Identity
The mission of the University is to form persons committed to the truth, who possess virtues which enable them to contribute to the betterment of society.
But Above All The Christian identity is especially observed in interpersonal dealings characterized by charity, justice, and respect for freedom. The commitment of the University to these Christian ideals can be gleaned from the words of the Grand Chancellor, Bishop Javier Echevarria: “To love persons, all and each one, to respect them as they deserve, requires in the first place to discover each individual in his own singularity: his needs, his way of being, his capabilities, his circumstances. They should never be considered as mere resources, or as statistics, or as elements of a design for a specific strategy.” (“Christian Humanism in Business Management” (Inaugural speech of the Symposium of IESE on its 50th Anniversary).
Research and
Communication
As an academic community, UA&P carries on the foundational aims and traditions of its forerunner, the Center for Research and Communication (CRC). Hence, the University continues to undertake high level, interdisciplinary research for the common good of society and to communicate the results of such research through various media and to varied audiences. Research at UA&P aims, above all, at a synthesis of humanistic, professional, scientific, and technical knowledge, inspired by a view of man and a sense of life that is distinctively Christian.
Values
Formation
Mind and heart towards education in values, in character. Values Formation is one of three hallmarks that UA&P strives to create a niche as its unique service to society (the two others being People Development and Research and Communication). The notion of values formation, and its predecessor and more common, values education, arrived in Philippine education in the 1980s. Its origins derive from earlier American conceptions of values clarification, which stated that all values are particular to the person (versus universal to all men and women), subjective (versus objective), and relative depending on time and place (versus absolute), which implies a teacher should simply process the values of his students, help ensure that they apply or live their values well and, negatively, not insist on any universal, objective, and absolute moral principles to govern conduct.

Liberal education holds before you the
vision of greatness. All of a Piece
In the University, students undergo a program of study that begins with a liberal education curriculum and concludes with a professional specialization. UA&P’s commitment to liberal education is deeply grounded in its Christian view of the person and society. This commitment comes from a profound desire to help students arrive at a sense of unity or coherence as persons, a seamless melding of one’s faith, worldview, and life—a goal that many mainstream views of education no longer emphasize. UA&P’s brand of education aims to reintroduce authentic liberal education at the tertiary level and is an emphatic counterpoint to the current educational zeitgeist, which no longer views an education of man as man. The fact that many contemporary conceptions and systems of education carry predominantly utilitarian aims only serves to strengthen the University’s conviction regarding the irreplaceable value of what is (mistakenly) regarded as the “impractical” nature of liberal education.
Step outside the box.
Committing to a university lifestyle that harmonizes both your academic obligations and extra-curricular life not only makes for a well-balanced UA&P student, but is a sure step towards the holistic education UA&P wants you to receive. Choosing your student activities carefully (but choose nevertheless), being generous in serving others, and creating good friendships, are as much a vital part of your UA&P education as the time you spend in the classroom.

Student Government A Zoon Politikon (Political Animal)
If the Greek philosophers regarded man as a political animal, then it follows that participating in the community’s political life is for everyone, and not just for a few. This is why civic education is of particular value to our students: UA&P’s educational objective is to steep its students both in the theory and practice of citizenship, both in terms of a willingness to contribute to the community’s welfare, but also in acquiring the capabilities for practicing authentic citizenship.
