Candidates for the 2024 Riverbay Board Election to be Certified

Fourteen prospective candidates returned Statements of Intent to the 2024 Election Committee indicating their interest in running for the seat on the Riverbay Board of Directors this year.

Election packages became available for pick up on Wednesday, April 3, during normal business hours from the Riverbay Legal department, and after-hours from Public Safety, until midnight on Wednesday, April 10, the deadline to return the completed Statement of Intent to the Election Committee.

The co-chairs of the 2024 Election Committee are Board Director Anika Green-Watson and Board Director Claudia Sampson.

For prospective candidates with questions about the Riverbay Board of Directors and/or the election process, the Election Committee held an Information Session in Room 31 of the Bartow Center on Monday, April 8, which was attended by approximately 25-30 shareholders. (See Election Committee Update on page 1 of this issue.) According to Election co-chair Sampson, while some of the attendees were prospecive candidates, some were appliants to serve on the Election Committee and others were observers.

“It was an impressive turnout and demonstrated a keen interest on the part of shareholders who are willing to do their part in support of this great experiment called coopertaive living,” said Director Sampson. “Hopefully, this is a harbinger of good things to come as Anika and I work with the Election Committee members towards a successful outcome. Thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment to this important endeavor.”

2024 Election Committee Update

The deadline for prospective 2024 Riverbay Board applicants to submit a Statement of Intent was Wednesday, April 10th. In an effort to both encourage shareholders to apply and to provide an overview of the role of a Board director, Anika Green-Watson and Claudia Sampson, the 2024 Election Committee co-chairs, hosted an information session on Monday, April 8th.

The Information Session agenda included: an overview of the Riverbay Board structure, a discussion on the responsibilities of the position, a review of the qualifications to become a Board director, and a review of the 2024 election calendar. Attendees watched a video, entitled, Mitchell-Lama Co-ops: The Basics (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiFhuDuYq7A). The video delved into what it means to sit on the board of a Mitchell-Lama cooperative and laid the groundwork for a deeper discussion around the roles and responsibilities within the corporation.

During the meeting, co-chair Claudia Sampson emphasized the importance of the Board of Directors in driving organizational excellence.

Income Afidavit Help Sessions Next Week

Riverbay Management has scheduled help sessions to be held in each of the three community centers to assist shareholders who may need assistance filling out and notarizing their 2023 Income Affidavit form.

For shareholders filing a paper Income Affidavit, Finance department staff will be available in each center according to the following schedule:

• Bartow Center, Room 31 – Monday, April 15, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.

On April 8, a partial eclipse began at 2:10 p.m., blocking out 89% of the sun at 3:35 p.m., and ending at 4:46 p.m. The sky resembled dawn for four and a half minutes, as the moon blocked out sunlight.

The event increased tourism, economic revenue, and congestion but it was also a unique community relations opportunity here in Co-op City.

“I live in the neighborhood and we were going to sit on the bench, but we thought it would be nice to be around other people who are doing what we’re doing,” said Lynn Horton.

Participatory Budget Week

Hutch River Earth Week Clean-Up

Friends of the Hutchinson River Greenway are having an Earth Week Clean-Up on Sunday, April 14, 10 a.m.-noon, at The Hutchinson Metro Center, 1250 Waters Place (Mercy University Parking). Dogs Must be Leashed in Public Spaces

The Department of Public Safety has received complaints that authorized dog owners are using the community’s gated parks as dog runs. These parks are NOT dog parks. Shareholders should be aware that dogs must be on a leash in any public space within Co-op City. Shareholders with dogs found off leash are in violation of NYC Law and Riverbay rules and regulations. If a dog is observed off leash, shareholders should not confront the violator. Please call Public Safety at 718-671-3050. Dispatchers are available 24 hours a day. A Community Complaint may be issued to the owner of a dog detected off leash on our property. The fine for this violation is $200.00.

DOT Set to Begin Implementing Paperless Parking Meters

Paperless parking meters are coming to New York City and the Department of Transit (DOT) announced the implementation of a new system on April 8.

Drivers will no longer have to display a paper receipt on their dashboard after paying. The new models, called Pay-By-Plate parking meters, do not print paper receipts and instead utilize a back-lit touchscreen and solar panel.

Paying for parking on the new machines can be done in four simple steps, drivers first press the start button to turn on the touchscreen, then the individual enters their car’s license plate number and state. The final two steps are entering the amount of time the individual would like to park for, and lastly, paying their parking fee. Drivers can pay using a credit card, exact change or via the ParkNYC app, which is available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

DOT expects to begin phasing in the new machines starting in May. Northern Manhattan will be the first phase of implementation. DOT expects to complete the entire rollout in Manhattan by July of this year. Following Manhattan, DOT plans to install the new parking meters in Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Staten Island in spring of 2025.

DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez discussed the added convenience the new machines will bring to New Yorkers during the announcement of the new system on April 8.

“Our new pay-by-plate parking meters are simple to

use and will make short-term parking easier for everyone. Drivers will no longer need to worry about leaving a paper receipt on their dashboard and can use the convenience of the ParkNYC app to pay the meter while on the go,” Rodriguez said.

One of the main reasons New York City is implementing new parking meters is to eliminate the amount of paper used by current parking meters. Specifically, the DOT approximated that current parking meters throughout the city print eight miles worth of receipts daily. When added together, the city’s current parking meters produce roughly over 2500 miles of paper receipts annually, also according to the DOT, which is more than the distance between New York City and Los Angeles by plane.

After the Pay–By–Plate machines are implemented across the 80,000 citywide parking meter spaces, individuals will no longer be able to illegally transfer their vehicle’s remaining metered time to another vehicle or parking zone using their paper receipt. Additionally, the NYPD expects the Pay-By-Plate machines to improve their capacity to enforce parking meters and prevent cars from overstaying their allotted time.

Implementing Pay–By–Plate parking meters is a part of Mayor Eric Adams’ Curb Management Action Plan, which was announced in September of 2023. The Mayor’s plan focuses on optimizing the city’s curb space for pedestrians in addition to streamlining the efficiency of services such as parcel deliveries, passenger drop-offs and passenger pickups.

Truman Hosts Pro Tennis Clinic

Truman tennis players were treated to a fun and interactive clinic on Friday, April 5, hosted by tennis player and tennis brand marketing expert Bryan Griffin. Tennis Coach Kaitlin McCabe, a personal friend of Griffin’s, arranged the workshop, which was originally planned to last an hour but ended up going more than three hours. Coach McCabe summarized the event:

“Bryan (Griffin) spoke to students about his experiences playing tennis in college and on tour and explained how learning the game and fostering community opened up doors for him in his professional career

Deepest Condolences

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of former shareholder Annette Newman on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Annette relocated to Israel to be closer to family when her husband, Hank, passed several years ago. Annette and Hank Newman were long-time shareholders of Building 15B and she was an active member of the community who served on various Board committees and attended community meetings on a regular basis. Although this is a rough time, we know that our mom lived a long and happy life at 98 years old. We would like to thank all those who came out to the funeral and who watched on Zoom. With standing room only at the funeral, she would have been amazed! We were amazed. In Memoriam Helena Gertrude Alston

May 17, 1925 – March 16, 2024

Helena Gertrude Alston was born on May 17, 1925, to the late Thomas and Clara Allen. Raised in Harlem, New York, she was the eldest of five siblings whom she often cared for. Helena would later come to be known affectionately as both Aunt Tina and Nana.

Helena attended the New York City Public Schools, graduating from high school in 1943. As a devout Christian, Helena became a lifelong member of Mother A.M.E. Zion Church, where she attended Sunday School and participated in the various church activities.

Helena loved to dance and she loved jazz. While dating boxer Joe Louis, Helena enjoyed her love of dancing and jazz at the Savoy, Renaissance Ballroom and the Palm Café, where she would listen to the melodic sounds of the saxophone at the live jazz shows.

In 1946, Helena met and married Mr. Thomas Alston, and bore him two children – a daughter, Shirley Alston; and a son, Edward Alston, who shares his mother’s birthday. Helena was a generous and loving mother who adored her children and provided them with the warmth and comfort of a loving home. Helena’s home was open to her family as well on many special occasions which she hosted there. Her proclivity for helping people made her a living testament of love.

Securing a clerical position with the New York City Transit Authority, Helena manned a token booth as an attendant for more than 25 years. After retiring, she continued her public service working with the Board of Elections. Her propensity for social justice and the progression of her people prompted her to speak out at community meetings, carry petitions for members of Congress, as well as championing her daughter Shirley’s political campaigns. As an activist, Helena met and talked with former President Bill Clinton. She was also active in promoting her people, being involved with the Bronx chapter of Jack&Jill of America, Inc, a very prestigious organization.

Helena’s green thumb was legendary for planting flowers and greenery in the gardens of Co-op City where she resided. Her house plants grew lush and green and were the envy of all who saw them. Loved by both allies and adversaries alike, Helena was friendly, energetic and independent. She was an avid traveler who loved to meet and engage with new and different people and cultures.

As the matriarch of her family for many years, Helena was the head of the Allen family council of chiefs and made important family decisions. She took precious care of everyone and gave good advice to all who had the pleasure of being around her. She was the rock that created the ripple, the one who all friends and family were able to count on, and the one who left us with an amazing legacy. We all will miss her profoundly. Being blessed with longevity, the sun set just shy of Helena’s 99th birthday, which would have been on May 17, 2024.

Helena Alston was preceded in eternal sleep by her parents, Thomas and Clara Allen; her husband, Thomas Alston; her sisters, Grace Ann Allen and Minnie Louise Allen-Carnegie; her only brother, Thomas Allen Jr. and her grandson in-law, Dwayne Alleyne. She is mourned by her youngest sister and only surviving sibling, Patricia Elizabeth (Betty) Allen-Gailes; her children and their spouses: daughter Shirley (Alston) Saunders and Rodney Saunders (husband); son Edward Alston and Sherry Alston (wife); 10 grandchildren: Jovan Middleton and Melissa (wife), Keith Saunders, Kristopher Saunders, Carla Alston, Edward Alston Jr., Helena Alston and Tia (wife), Kelly Saunders, Marian Vinson-Adams, Robert Vinson and Jermaine Yarbrough; 10 great grandchildren: Shirley Saunders II, Kristopher Saunders Jr., Madison Saunders, Seth Bell, Aidan Alleyne-Saunders, twins Eric-Troy and King Saunders, Ryan Adams, Aliyah Adams, Asia Middleton; two great-great grandchildren, Rylee Smith and Daniel Smith Jr.; nieces: Thomasine Michelle Allen-Chambers, Angela Gailes-Green and husband Ronald Green; nephews: Robert Gregory Gailes and wife Joy, David Carnegie and a host of family members and friends. Homegoing services for the late Helena G. Alston took place at McCall’s Funeral Home on Friday, March 29. Services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Gregory Robeson Smith, grandson of Paul Robeson.

CCPD Asks Parents to Have Meaningful Discussions with School Age Children

Co-op City is experiencing a spike in youths who are skipping school and loitering in our buildings. More troubling is the appearance of several youths carrying knives.

Years ago, to quote a major network that always started the 10 p.m. news with the phrase, “It’s 10 p.m., do you know where your children are?” CCPD now asks shareholders to mirror that thought: “It’s 2 p.m., do you know where your children are?” And, “do you know who they are with?”

We ask parents to have a discussion with their children and caution them not to engage in disruptive or dangerous behavior. Shareholders should tell their children, particularly teenagers, that loitering in buildings, hallways, and stairwells is an Occupancy Agreement violation and Community Complaints will be issued to the shareholder of record. Community Complaint fines are doubled for each subsequent violation and can result in serious financial consequences for violations.

The safety of all shareholders is the primary concern of the Department of Public Safety; all shareholders should do their part to promote safe behavior that adds to a superior quality of life for all residents of Co-op City.

CCPD responded to reports of smoke coming out of Garage 1. Upon arrival, CCPD observed four vehicles that were on fire and notified the FDNY. FDNY extinguished the fire. A second response was requested for FDNY to return several hours later when one of the vehicles reignited. The vehicle fire was extinguished again. It is standard procedure for FDNY Fire Marshalls to conduct an investigation in fires such as this unoccupied vehicle fire. Fire Marshalls are currently conducting the investigation with the assistance of the CCPD Detective Squad.

A cooperator reported that a confirmed delivered package was removed from the lobby area by an unknown individual without her permission.

A cooperator reported that a confirmed delivered package from USPS was removed from his mailbox by an unknown individual without his permission. The cooperator also reported that the entire row of mailboxes was open. CCPD notified the Postal Police and Riverbay Maintenance to inspect for any damage.

CCPD discovered an elderly male shareholder who was disorientated and wandering around the building. They conducted an investigation and were able to contact a family member who responded and assumed custody and care of the individual.

A cooperator reported returning to his parked vehicle and observing that the passenger front window was shattered and the air bag and a camera were removed from the vehicle by an unknown individual without his permission.

170 Dreiser Loop

CCPD Officers responded to a report of noise. Officers conducted an investigation and discovered an unattached AC cover on the roof of the building. Officers secured the cover to prevent injury in the event the cover was blown off the roof. Maintenance was notified.

120 Benchley Place

CCPD Emergency Service Officers responded to assist a 53-yearold shareholder who sustained a head injury when propelled into a

building pillar due to a strong gust of wind. The aided was treated by CCPD officers and then transported to the hospital by FDNY EMS for additional medical care.

CCPD responded to a report of dogs barking. Investigation revealed unregistered dogs within the apartment. Five Community Complaints were issued, one for each of the unregistered animals.

CCPD responded to an aided experiencing cardiac distress. FDNY responded, administered aid, and removed the aided to the hospital.

CCPD responded to a family dispute. Investigation resulted in the issuance of a Community Complaint for unreasonable noise and one of the participants was escorted out of the building.

A cooperator reported that a confirmed delivered package was removed from the lobby area by an unknown individual without her permission.

CCPD Officers responded to a report of loud music. Investigation supported that the music was extremely loud and unreasonable. A Community Complaint was issued.

April 05, 2024

120 DeKruif Place

A Riverbay Maintenance worker reported that while working, he left his cart with tools outside of the apartment and an unknown individual removed property from his cart.

100 Elgar Place

While on routine patrol, an officer observed a moving vehicle. She was aware that no moving permit was issued for this building. An investigation confirmed an unauthorized move-in of a couch and assorted furniture being delivered into the building. No permit was in place and no elevator padding was installed. A Community Complaint was issued to the shareholder receiving the delivery.

150 Dreiser Loop

CCPD Officers responded to a report of loud music. Investigation supported that the music was extremely loud and unreasonable. Officers previously responded on April 3rd for the same violation. A Community Complaint was issued. CCPD will contact Legal to evaluate if a holdover action is warranted, as this is the second noise violation in two days.

Daryl Johnson We Must Get New Board Members

A lot of cooperators are outraged with our board and how this community is being operated. So, now is the time when some of our shareholders should step up and make a decision to become a board director. Thereafter, we can make a lot of good improvements here.

This Nonsense Has To Stop

Riverbay took out a $621.5 million loan in 2012. And, it was thought that this loan would solve a lot of the capital repair problems and other issues that we had here. Regardless, can you believe that Riverbay created a resolution in 2022 to refinance this mortgage?

This resolution stated that Riverbay needed to “perform major capital repairs to its approximately fifty (50) year old property.” So, how is this possible? In other words, what supposedly occurred with the capital projects and other issues that took place back in 2012?

Is Riverbay in deep debt? Absolutely! And, from my perspective, Riverbay doesn’t seem to be showing a lot of concern about these debt issues. On the other hand, it seems like Riverbay has no problem overspending our budget and issuing huge increases to our community.

For instance, I recently wrote about the building façade work and the outrageous amount of fences that were installed throughout our community. The overall price for this work was supposed to be around $35 million. But, shockingly, the final price for this work totaled more than $77 million. Then, the renovation work in Dreiser was approved for $5.6 million. Thereafter, the final price for this work totaled more than $10 million.

Riverbay is currently paying a small group of contractors a lot of money just to restore a 1-bedroom apartment. In fact, these contractors are receiving about $12,000 supposedly for labor. Plus, Riverbay is issuing about $5,000 worth of materials to these contractors. So, from my perspective, Riverbay must have their own reasons why they’re issuing these outrageous payments to this small group of contractors.

Just recently, I wrote that our insurance resolutions were brought to our board meetings just days before these policies were expected to expire. And, the excuse was that the brokers could possibly get a better rate just before the policy was ready to expire. So, I asked the brokers about this statement. And, they said that they had already received a rate lock on their policy.

Therefore, that admission does not support the statements that the board was given. And, it’s clear to me that these actions only supported the payment of the $393,000 commission fee that the brokers were supposed to receive for their property liability policy.

Currently, we’re spending about $100 million on our payroll. But, as mentioned before, this huge expense is only going to lead to another big carrying charge increase. Thereafter, more food will be removed from some tables here.

Riverbay had an approved budget of about $250 million for the past two years. So, how was it possible that they overspent their budget by millions of dollars for each of those two years? Regardless, Riverbay was anxious for the first of the month to arrive. Sounds familiar? This way, Riverbay could get those checks and start spending more money.

So, based on these facts, can anyone produce an article from the Co-op City Times to prove that Riverbay is going to make changes to the way that they’re conducting business here? No! Therefore, can you see why the NYS Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) agency had no problem issuing an 8.1 percent increase here? Now, you and I probably do not agree with these outrageous increases.

However, we need to understand that we need to make some big changes here. And, that means that we need for some of our shareholders to step up and run for a seat on our board. Thereafter, if elected, then we can stop all of the nonsense that’s going on here.

Parents – Please Help Your Children

Unfortunately, some children are acting up in terrible ways. For instance, some children have been seen running into some stores, grabbing several items, and running out of the stores without paying for anything. Then, groups of children have been seen walking throughout our community during school hours. Thereafter, in some cases, they made a choice to hang out in our stairwells.

But, hanging out in our stairwells is not a good decision for anyone to make. First, our cooperators might decide to call Public Safety. Then, community complaints and legal actions can proceed from that point. So, I want to encourage parents to please review this material with your children. Thereafter, if necessary, please help them to change this negative conduct. You can also consider counseling to help them. Thank you. Close

Can you imagine how this community could be if we could work together in a positive way? Look, we can stop all of the excessive spending. Then, we wouldn’t have to deal with receiving annual carrying charge increases. But, we need to get some good shareholders onto our board.

Shareholders fling a manual paper income affdavit should be aware that the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) has changed the form – it is now in duplicate pink and white copies only. The paper form must be notarized.

Shareholders who have not yet receive their Income Affdavit package in the mail can request and pick up a blank copy from the Riverbay Finance department by sending an email to Riverbayfnance@riverbaycorp.com. A fllable pdf of the form will also be made available soon on the Riverbay website, https://coopcity.com. It can be flled out, printed and notarized before being mailed back to Riverbay, dropped in one of the carrying charge boxes in the community centers, or scanned along with supporting documents and emailed to RiverbayFinance@riverbaycorp.com

This year, shareholders have two options to fle their affdavits – the traditional paper form which was mailed and should have been received by each residential unit, and an electronic option accessible on the offcial Riverbay website, https:// www.coopcity.com. At the top of the Home page, shareholders can click on the link titled, “Click here for The Annual Income Affdavit Form” to be directed to the income affdavit landing page.

According to the Finance department, frst, shareholders will be provided with a link to register on Jotform. Shareholders will need their t-code. The t-code is your account number found at the upper right hand corner of your monthly carrying charge statement. Shareholders will be required to identify their building and apartment. This year, an improvement from last year’s pilot program is included in that the system will cross check account numbers with building and apartment number and inaccuracies will be fagged for the shareholder to correct before being allowed to move forward with the process.

Once the shareholder has registered with Jotform, they will then receive an email from DocuSign to verify their ID. This step replaces the notary in the electronic fling. Shareholders will be required to go through a “knowledge based” ID verifcation process to securely verify their identity prior to accessing the Income Affdavit digital form.

Please note that everyone 18 and older in the household has to prove their identity before beginning the electronic process. After shareholders have successfully verifed their identifcation, they will then receive access to the digital income affdavit form to be completed online.

All forms will be signed electronically using DocuSign. DocuSign eSignature is document signing software used to collect approvals online legally and securely. It uses the strongest data encryption technologies available, (www.docusign.com). The use of an e-Signature will improve the shareholder’s experience and reduce the need to either mail or drop the completed Income Affdavit at the Riverbay Offce.

Shareholders will be able to upload supporting documents such as proof of insurance and tax returns where needed. At the bottom of Section B of the form, shareholders can click on the “paper clip icon” and follow the directions to upload their documents. A confrmation email will be received by the shareholder when the form is processed.

If a shareholder tries to resubmit a registration, the system will warn the shareholder, present the two submissions, and allow the shareholder to confrm a resubmission or cancel the new attempt to resubmit the data.

The electronic annual income affdavit project was spearheaded by Riverbay Assistant Executive General Manager Cary Smith III. Last year, New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (HCR) approved a pilot which was tested by shareholders who are registered to pay their monthly carrying charges online through Zego.com and were randomly selected to participate for the 2022 Income Affdavit cycle. In February 2023, HCR gave full approval to Riverbay for the program to be expanded to all shareholders.

Based on feedback received from the participants in last year’s pilot, the electronic process was tweaked to improve the validation process and overall user experience.

The fling deadline for the 2023 Income Affdavit is Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

It was late. I was tired. We all make mistakes.

Here’s the story. I couldn’t remember the number of election districts we have in Co-op City. We used to have 41 election districts (EDs) before the Board of Elections of the City of New York (BOENYC), in all its bureaucratic wisdom, plumped up each of them to halve that number a couple years ago.

For fifty years before that, we used to earn quite a pretty penny in rental income every Election Day when we all voted in one of our three community centers. Then the BOE, a few years ago, increased the number of poll sites to six (with three of them off campus) reducing our portion of the proceeds to half a pretty penny. When our number of paid EDs went from 41 to 19, our payment halved again – half of a half of a pretty penny! (Did the word farthing just pop into your head?)

Anyway, I felt voting enthusiasm was also halved by that increased poll site maneuver that left many of us with new locations to navigate. Even before getting a seat on the Board, encouraging voter turnout for both civic and Board elections, had become more than a passing interest of mine. In fact, by using the time machine known as issuu. com/cctimes, I see I was sworn in the day after the first Candidates’ Forum and debate I pulled together – mostly as a Get Out The Vote effort – just a week before the upcoming June 2018 primary.

I have made dealing with the BOEs mishaps and misunderstanding of our community my personal mission. For the November 2018 election, I started putting together the poll site info flyers that get posted in our lobbies before every election. I’ve been making those Early Vote/VOTE signs, promoting two or three city/state/federal Special/Primary/General elections, every year since.

Now back to last week and the ED number search.

I opened up our assembly district AD82 map to cross reference the registered voters in each. There I was met with yet another of my pet peeves. Co-

Try Harder

Op City Blvd. was spelled wrong all over the map – the official BOENYC Election District map! Ay, yi, yi! I settled with extrapolating from just one ED instead.

To make a long story longer, this week I rechecked my numbers by adding up all of our 19 election district’s registered voters instead of just the one ED. Unlike our NYS congressional and legislative voting districts, not all election districts are expected to be the same size, population-wise. Just how great is the variation? Seventeen of AD82’s EDs aren’t even listed, which I assume means each has zero registered voters, one ED has five, and two of the remaining 67 EDs tie with 1696 each.

So now I have an actual number – as of 11/1/22 – and that number, tallied right before the last statewide General Election Day on 11/8/22, when we elected (mostly re-elected) a US Senator, US Congress Member, Governor/Lieutenant Governor, State Comptroller, State Attorney General, State Senator, State Assembly Member, and several Judgeships (and voted on a few Ballot Proposals) – was 27,101. That number includes registered voters living in the 72 private houses on the outskirts of Section 5, but otherwise, that’s all us: 27,101.

The mistake I made, printed in last week’s viewpoint, came from my using some fuzzy arithmetic while trying to tally our Co-op City population based on the estimated number of our registered voters (which varies wildly from source to source, by the way). The correct arithmetic brings Co-op City’s population to 43,362, which is pretty much on the nose for 2022.

The takeaway here should be: VOTE! We’re a full third of AD82’s total number of 81,051 registered voters. Big enough to vote ‘em in. Big enough to vote ‘em out. That’s how one person/one vote civic elections get done.

Not for Board elections, though. For us, it’s one vote per unit. Why? Just one of the rules that stuck from England’s 1844 Rochdale co-operative movement, resurrected with the Rochdale Village experiment in Jamaica, Queens in 1963, and continues

on to today by us, Rochdale’s “younger, larger, and better-known sibling, Co-op City in the Bronx.”

That’s how Peter Eisenstadt puts it in Rochdale Village and the rise and fall of integrated housing in New York City, an easily Googled and fascinating history/memoire written sometime between the mid-1990’s and 2004 by a former 10-year old resident of the complex.

The 80 footnotes alone are worth searching it out.

In the last paragraph before all those pages of footnotes, Eisenstadt compares the racial trajectory of Rochdale with the premise of a 1955 work by C. Vann Woodward, The Strange Career of Jim Crow, regarding “the ‘forgotten alternatives’ of America’s racial history.”

Eisenstadt writes that Woodward’s book, which focused on the Reconstruction and post-Reconstruction periods, “scraped away layer upon layer of conventional wisdom that held that blacks and whites living together and sharing power as equals was a preordained failure.” And that the Rochdale experiment suffered the same forces eager to similarly undermine, “the efforts to create genuinely integrated communities in the 1960s.”

The 2010 Rochdale Village: Robert Moses, 6,000 Families, and New York City’s Great Experiment in Integrated Housing is an expansion of Eisenstadt’s original work which we can still find buried in the archives at nyc.gov.

Eisenstadt sums up the original piece with this: “History of course cannot be rewritten, and like Reconstruction, the effort to create an integrated Rochdale in the 1960s was ultimately a failure, a forgotten alternative. Success is imitated; failure is shunned.”

He continues: “But if Rochdale’s efforts at integration were not a success, as one longtime activist told me, in different ways and in new guises, ‘it is an experiment that has to be tried again’.”

DIGITAL INCOME AFFIDAVIT FAQS

1. Where on the coopcity.com website should shareholders click to register to complete the digital income affidavit?

A. At the top of the Home page on the website (coopcity. com), shareholders will see a link to “Click here for the Annual Income Affidavit Form.”

Once on the next landing page, shareholders will select the line that reads: “Click here to register to receive your Income Affidavit Digital Form.”

2. What if I do not want to file my income affidavit electronically?

A. If you choose not to file electronically, you can file your income affidavit manually using the paper form which is mailed to you.

3. Will the electronic form time out if I am a slow typer?

A. You will be timed out if there is inactivity for ten minutes or more. If you are actively filling out the form, you will not be timed out.

4. What happens after I complete the registration process?

A. After you register, you will receive a verification email from DocuSign. Once you have answered the ID verification questions, you will be permitted access to the electronic Income Affidavit form.

5.Will the head of household be able to enter information for the occupants in the household?

A. Yes, but only for occupants who are younger than eighteen (18) years. The head of the household should capture their information on the Income Affidavit form.

Anyone 18 years or older and listed on the income affidavit will receive an email. They will be required to complete their section of the form. After all occupants have completed their respective section of the income affidavit, the head of household will then receive the form by email to complete the process.

Note: The process is complete only when all occupants have entered their information, and the form is returned to the head of household for final submission.

6. Where can I find my account number/t-code?

A. Your account number/t-code is found at the top right side of your monthly carrying charge statement.

7. Is the electronic income affidavit form case sensitive when filling in information?

A. A few sections are. See below.

1. Name: Only capitalize the first letter in your name.

2. Account number/t-code: Enter the “t” in t-code with a lower case “t,” followed by your account number as displayed on your carrying charge statement.

8. Where on my income tax form do I obtain the amount of my total income?

A. Line 19 of the State Tax Return IT201.

9. There is a section on the electronic income affidavit form for a notary signature. Do I need an online notary?

A. No, you do not. Your identity will be validated before you can access the form. You will be required to go through a “knowledge based” ID verification process to securely verify your identity prior to accessing the DocuSign driven form where you will respond to a few questions to identify yourself. Everyone eighteen (18) years and older has to prove their identity before beginning the electronic process. Once done, you can complete and submit your form electronically through DocuSign.

10. Am I able to save the electronic income affidavit form if I am unable to complete it in one sitting?

A. Shareholders will be able to save and complete the affidavit later. There is a dropdown in the form that allows users to save the form (under “Other Actions/Finish Later”). They can then use the initial link received after registration to resume the process anytime.

11. Is a shareholder required to submit their insurance information online or can the affidavit be completed without attaching proof of insurance?

A. Yes, a shareholder can complete the income affidavit without attaching the insurance. They can submit the insurance information directly to the Riverbay Risk Management office before or after filling out the income affidavit.

12. If a shareholder gets timed-out while completing the income affidavit form, are they able to resume from where they left off or will they have to start over?

A. Typically, DocuSign will take you back where you left off. Additionally, the shareholder/occupant is only required to fill in a minimum amount of information. Some information like name, address, t-code, apartment and building number, will be auto populated.

13. Will I receive a copy of the completed form for my records?

A. Yes, shareholders will receive a pdf copy of the completed affidavit once they have completed the process.

14. Once completed and submitted, will a receipt be issued?

A. Yes. Once the shareholder completes the form though DocuSign, you will have the option to save a copy. In addition, you should receive notification at the email address used during registration.

Summer Fun Day: SFD is scheduled for June 22nd from 12-5 p.m. in the Carver Loop area of Section 2 and open to all who wish to participate. Fifty white T-shirts will be given to the frst youth on line beginning at noon. To purchase a shirt for that day, fyers and information are being distributed throughout the community. Led by our very own American Legion, State Senator Jamaal Bailey, a live Brass Band and our rendition of Mother Earth, the parade will fll the air with laughter and delight, setting the tone for a day of unforgettable memories. Please arrive at the greenway at 10:30 a.m., so we can dance our way to the garden for complimentary groceries, a lineup of engaging workshops on managing house plants, gardening, creative arts and wellness. There’s something for everyone to explore and learn so come, stay and have a good time.

Mark your calendars, gather your loved ones, and immerse yourself in a day of joy, connection, and celebration. Together, let’s cultivate moments of happiness and create memories that will blossom throughout the season and beyond. We can’t wait to see you there!

Spring is here and so is the NY Junior Tennis program in Co-op City. This free Tennis Program is sponsored by Councilmember Kevin Riley.

The program begins on April 23, and will be held Tuesday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children ages 5 to 18 are invited to join. Coaches and rackets are provided. The program is held on the Truman HS Tennis Courts located behind IS 181.

NYJTL offers year-round tennis instructions and competition for children. The indoor winter program just ended with the Citywide Hartman Cup competition.

The following Co-op City Players won medals and trophies: Madison Drummond won 18s; Zara Henry Joseph won 14s; Jaccob Urena won 12s; Richard Addai won 12s; Cai Burke won 8s, and Felix Owusu medalled 18s. Congrats to all who participated.

Special thanks to all the parents who made the sacrifce of bringing their children to the very early morning tennis.

This Bldg. 6 monthly spotlight is on this wonderful young man named Onyx Fletcher. He is a Co-op City native residing here 18 years. Onyx will be graduating from Truman High School in June and will be attending SUNY Oswego in the late Summer. He is an active volunteer of the Bldg. 6 Social Committee while maintaining an A+ average in school and participating on Truman HS Wrestling team and the NYJTL Tennis League. A kind, smart, handsome, respectful young man who deserves everything good in life. We appreciate and honor his hard work ethic and that’s to be celebrated. So neighbors, we will have a Trunk Party and we are

asking neighbors to donate essentials towards his new chapter in life. So, please stay tuned to the Community Board for information.

Despite the return of chilly weather last Saturday, Section 5 volunteers were ready to distribute a variety of fresh cabbage, green peppers, cucumbers, string beans and apples to shareholders and neighbors.

Greetings, Building 25 shareholders!

Our Building 25 Association meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m., in our meeting room under the portico, and light refreshments will be available. Our guest speaker is Mr. Omar deLosAngeles, supervisor of Janitorial Services. Please attend the meeting and share your janitorial issues and concerns. Your input and support are necessary and welcomed. Also, we invite shareholders to join the Building 25 Association; dues is $5.00 a year, per family.

April 19th is Deadline for NY Yankees Community Council Youth Leadership Awards

Friday, April 19, is the nomination deadline for the New York Yankees Community Council Youth Leadership Awards which provide a $750.00 stipend to fve deserving students nominated by Bronx Community Board #10.

Applicants must have performed 50 hours of leadership/volunteer work as a tutor, mentor, community unity developer, and/or as an advocate against violence or substance abuse in their community.

Bronx Community Board #10 seeks high school seniors who reside in the Bronx Community Board #10 service area and meet the service requirements above.

Applicants are required to submit a completed nomination form and attach a resume stating the applicant’s: name, address, education, voluntary and/or extracurricular activities, work experience, awards, etc

First, how was the eclipse for everyone? I wonder with the planetarium in Truman High School, if they didn’t have an event to study this phenomenon. Perhaps today’s Co-op City Times will have something on this. Just learned how to make glasses with foil, a cereal box, tape and paper. Hope to get it done! April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Please put the word out that the Bronx District Attorney’s Offce will be hosting their 7th Annual Child Safety Fair. Anyone with children or grandchildren should be made aware that this is available to them and it’s free. It will take place on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at P.S. 211, The Bilingual School, located at 1919 Prospect Ave, Bronx, NY 10457. The Child Safety Fair aims to engage and provide valuable education to our community about children’s safety and wellness. Many returning and new agencies will provide interactive learning activities for all children in attendance. There will also be food, entertainment, and music. Everyone is invited to join us on this fun-packed day! Remember, this is a free event. Don’t give your personal info on the phone. The caller says, “I’m calling from the National Debt Relief Program.” There is no such program and if there were, they wouldn’t call you. They make it sound real, but it’s a phony, a fraud. I have been getting this call almost daily.

For your information, gentrifcation is the process of changing the character of a neighborhood through the infux of more affuent residents and investment. In Co-op City, that would mean changing the whole process, taking us out of the middle-income, Mitchell-Lama model, state operated and guided. That isn’t happening.

We have a great post offce in Dreiser. Combine your daily errands and use the market and shop closest to your home. There is a weekly sale fyer to help guide your list.

920 Baychester Ave., Bldg. 1A (opposite basketball court). The pantry is open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11:00 a.m.-12:45 p.m. for grocery distribution. Guests are eligible to pick up food once a month. All guests must present a pantry card, at least 4-6 clean shopping bags with handles and a shopping cart to receive food. Section 5 guests should visit the Co-op City United Methodist Church at 2350 Palmer Avenue to pick up groceries. They open on Thursdays from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Religious affliation is not necessary to receive food. When visiting the pantry, visitors must wear masks. Anyone who does not wear a mask may not be served by the staff at their discretion. This protects both the workers and guests.

New Client Registration & Re-certifcation For Returning Guests

The last day for 2024 registration and re-certifcation is Tuesday, April 30. Guests must be 18 years or older to apply or recertify. The required identifcation is as follows: NYC I.D. (zip code 10475), NY State Driver’s license, or NY State Non-Driver’s license. Passports, Medicaid and Medicare cards, employment identifcation, and Access-A-Ride identifcation are not accepted. At the time of registration or recertifcation, every member of the household must be present and produce valid identifcation. Household members need to have the same 10475 address. The intake forms will only include the number of household members who are able to show up in person at the offce. Those living in Sections 1, 2, 3, and 4 will register or recertify at the 920 Baychester Avenue location. Those living in Section 5 will register or recertify at the 2350 Palmer Avenue location on Thursdays.

What an amazing meeting we had this week. Our guest speaker was Executive General Manager, Mr. Marvin Walton. I wish to express my appreciation to Mr. Walton, our faithful cooperators who come out, and to our frst-time attendees.

Mr. Walton explained the partnership in clear details. We all share in the process of making Co-op City better. The cooperators, the Riverbay Board members and Management. We, the cooperators, have a vested interest. We elect our representatives on the Board. Management takes care of day-to-day repairs, cleaning, beautifcation, as well as making sure our basic needs are covered.

Cooperators read the Co-op City Times, read notices posted in your building and attend meetings. In May, we will once again be voting for Riverbay Board members. Please, please, vote. Put like-minded individuals on the Board to represent you and the future of Co-op City.

Good day, shareholders.

1) Some of you felt the 4.8 magnitude earthquake on Friday, April 5, around 10:23 a.m. Fortunately, there weren’t any reports of personal injuries and visual damage to Riverbay buildings but we pray for others elsewhere who did have damage to their homes or businesses.

2) We are facing an increase in crime in the city, and at the building and the Section 5 Association meeting, some cooperators asked if we could have a self-defense class. Jahmal Yapp of Councilman Kevin C. Riley’s offce has organized a Self-Defense Class on Friday, April 26, from 6-8 p.m. in the Einstein Center, Rm. 45. Please RSVP at www.bit.ly/selfdefense0426.

3) Council Member Kevin D. Riley, MMCC, and Safety Saints are partnering to provide a CPR/AED Free Life-Saving Skills Class, Friday, April 19. You can attend at the Section 5 Teen Center BGCA, 141 Einstein Loop N. Pre-registration required, call Jahmal Yapp, 347-326-8652.

4) An increasing issue of youths not being in school when they are supposed to, loitering in our buildings, and carrying weapons is a serious problem. Parents, we encourage you to talk to your children, know where they are at all times, and make sure they understand, they could be arrested, you could get a Community Complaint, and will be charged a fne if they are caught doing any of the above.

5) We would like to invite Riverbay Safety Director Anthony Barzelatto to conduct a presentation regarding surviving an active shooting, fre prevention tips, and how to prevent injuries in and out of your apartment. Contact us at building33associaton@gmail.com if you are interested.

6) Riverbay Management has scheduled help sessions in each community center to help you complete and notarize the paper form of the Income Affdavit: Bartow Center, Room 31, Monday, April 15; Einstein Center, Room 45, Wednesday, April 17; and Dreiser Auditorium C, Monday, April 22; all sessions at 9 a.m.-8 p.m.

If you prefer to complete your Income Affdavit electronically an instructional video is available on the Riverbay website, https://www.coopcity.com/ Income-affdavit. There will be two Q&As via Webex on Tuesday, April 16, and Thursday, April 18, 7 p.m. Information can be found in the April 6th Co-op City Times, page 4. Remember, if we can get most of the building to fle electronically, we may be able to get our lobby renovated!

7) Summer is coming and cooperators would appreciate walking or sitting on the grass. Please curb your dogs and stop allowing them to urinate on our walls and pillars! Also, remember to pick up the feces they leave behind, and keep our elevators, lobby, laundry rooms, staircases, and compactor rooms clean! Can anyone explain to me why we have to remind you of this? It’s your community and we wonder why you must be told. It should be automatic! Wake up, for goodness sake!

Hello, neighbors, we trust all is well. Stay vigilant, cautious and wear your masks in crowds. The weather has been a little favorable, be careful; viruses are still around and this is also flu season.

On a pleasant note, we thank our shareholders new and old who cheerfully gave the $5.00 dues plus many gave more and beyond in all three buildings. We thank our faithful shareholders from all three buildings, 27A, B and C, who always hold down the post when we need them.

Council Member Kevin C. Riley/MMCC and Safety Saints are partnering to provide a free CPR/AED training to the community. You must register by calling Jamaal Yapp, 347-326-8652. This Basic CPR/AED Class with HSI Certification will take place on Friday, April 19, from 3:45 p.m.-6 p.m. at the Section 5 Teen Center, 141 Einstein Loop N, in Section 5.

Encourage your neighbors to read the Co-op Times. There is an abundance of information to keep one busy and engaged. It can be a lot, but one should want to know about their own building and surroundings. Remember, we are neighbors and in this together helping one another to care for homes and community.

Notice – Last wash is at 9 p.m., meaning do not wash anything after 9 p.m. as the doors of the Laundry Room will be locked 10 p.m. daily.

Affidavits – We now have two options, the paper form which has to be notarized, and an electronic/online filing on the Riverbay website. The deadline for the 2023 Income Affidavit is Tuesday, April 30.

Notice – The HCR notice was posted in each lobby notifying shareholders the 8.1% increase will be effective 7/1/2024. Our State Senator Bailey and Assemblyman Benedetto are engaged in ongoing negotiations. We hope the future outcome will be favorable.

Collection of Dues – To new shareholders, we welcome you. Collection of dues is only $5. Building 9 Association

Greetings, Building 9 Association family and friends. We remain thankful, grateful, and blessed.

Please keep Wendy Pimentel and Jazmin Rodriguez in your prayers as they suffer the loss of their older sister last week.

On April 5, the Memorial services for Rosemary Bailey, former Building 9 Association Executive Board member, was extremely well attended by Wanda Randall, Karen Blanchette, myself, and so many of our Building 9 family, neighbors and friends. A beautiful Peace Lily plant was purchased on behalf of Building 9. Rosemary will be missed.

On April 8, Evelyn Mavins, Wanda Randall, Irma Vega, her husband, and other Building 9 friends, watched the solar eclipse together. We didn’t experience the solar eclipse in totality due to our vantage point relative to the sun. We did feel the wind pick up and a drop in air temperature. It was a great shared experience.

The April 2024 carrying charge statements have been mailed. The 2024 Income Affidavits have been mailed.

On Tuesday, April 16, and Thursday, April 18, from 7-8:30 p.m., there will be free online training on electronic Income Affidavit filing. Link: tinyurl.com/ 44jw2rn9.

McDonald’s Gospelfest 2024, “The Revival Tour,” promises to be the biggest Gospel event in the country as we celebrate 41 years of spreading the good news through music, arts, and entertainment. This year’s Gospelfest at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts features some of the best in the gospel music industry such as, Shirley Caesar, Dottie Peoples, and Byron Cage. Along with an inspirational word from Bishop Peggy Smalls and tri-state area gospel talents, choirs, and praise dancers.

A. Curtis Farrow, producer and director of McDonald’s Gospelfest has worked with McDonald’s for 26 years, producing this phenomenal celebration of life. He has received three Emmy awards for producing and directing McDonald’s Gospelfest along with fourteen nominations, crediting everything in his life to his strong belief in God.

Shirley Caesar, known as the First Lady of Gospel, began her professional music career in 1958 at the age of nineteen, when she approached Albertina Walker about joining The Caravans, one of the most popular gospel groups at that time. In 1961, Caesar began her solo career, recording the sermonette “Hallelujah ‘Tis Done,” which earned her a national reputation. She began to fulfll her calling as a pastor, establishing the Mount Calvary Word of Faith Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, and helping the needy in her community through founding the Shirley Caesar Outreach Ministries. In 1971, she won her frst Grammy Award for her recording of “Put Your Hand in the Hand of the Man,” and in 1975, her recording of the song, “No Charge,” became an instant hit and her frst gold record. In 1977, Caesar released her debut album, First Lady. Throughout the 1970’s and 1980s, Caesar went on to create several of her biggest hits,

“God’s Got It All in Control,” “Hold My Mule,” and “He’s Working It Out for You.” She has performed with Patti LaBelle and Whitney Houston, and acted in movies, ‘Fighting Temptations,’ and ‘Why Do Fools Fall in Love.’ In the 1990s, Caesar was dubbed the ‘First Lady of Gospel,’ and in 2000, was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. In 2015, Caesar performed for President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama at the White House, along with Aretha Franklin. In 2016, Caesar was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Throughout her career, she has received 11 Grammy Awards, 14 Stellar Awards, and 15 Dove Awards.

Dorothy “Dottie” Peoples is one of the most honored gospel vocalists. Her signature song, “On Time God,” is a modern gospel classic, and it not only reached #1 on the gospel charts, but swept the 1995 Stellar Awards (Album, Song of the Year, Female Vocalist, Choir), leading to Peoples winning the prestigious Stellar Award, James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1991, she debuted with two albums, “Is It Worth It All?” and “Surely God Is Able.” Peoples has had several notable performances including her performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the 1996 Olympics, and performance with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. In 2000, she won the Soul Train Award, Best Gospel Album for “God Can & God Will,” along with receiving four Stellar Awards, and three Grammy Nominations.

Byron Cage, known as the “Prince of Praise,” has made his mark on gospel music as a respected minister of music and through a series of charttopping live albums and radio singles, including “The Presence of the Lord,” “Royalty,” “Broken, But I’m Healed” and “I Will Bless the Lord.” In 1995, Cage launched his professional recording career by signing with Atlanta International Records. In 2004, Cage received The Soul Train Award for Best Gospel Album for “The Prince of Praise,” along with seven Stellar Awards, and one Grammy nomination throughout his career.

Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. is supported, in part, by public funds through the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the New York City Council and the Bronx Delegation. Additional funding is provided by the New York State Council on the Arts with support from the offce of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. You are all invited to attend and speak with Offcer Fraterrigo directly in the Association Room at the back of the building.

We are holding discussions on hosting a paintand-sip event. This is one of the many fun activities we plan to have this year. We will be providing more information as the date gets closer.

For the second consecutive year, in conjunction with the Governor, Co-op City Section will be hosting a NYS Citizen Preparedness Training Program geared toward ensuring that our community is prepared for many types of emergencies. On Tuesday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m., in Dreiser Community Center, Room 4, 177 Dreiser Loop, Bronx, NY 10475, there will be limited space, for a training program. This free training will go over how to set up a plan for yourself and your family. Registration is required for participation and space is limited. Once the registration is full, unfortunately, we will not be able to accept additional registrants. Last year, we had to turn away last-minute inquiries, so that’s why we’re offering this important opportunity again. Our Tour Committee is putting the fnal details together for the April 30th trip to see, “A Tribute to the Supremes,” and the pick-up location is now H&R block in Dreiser Loop. The exact time will be published in this article and there is only one location for departure, but we still have three drop-off locations upon our return. In today’s Gospel lesson, we read about an appearance of Jesus to his disciples following his resurrection. This greeting to his disciples illustrates how he desires to bring peace into the lives of those who are in need and accepting of his presence. Are you in need of peace in your life? I invite you to accept Jesus and his peace into your life today with this prayer: Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Life’s challenges can be overwhelming. As we are faced with trials, thoughts of what if, and what next can lead us down paths of anguish, fear, doubts, to name a few. At times, these feelings can quickly begin to shaken our faith. So, what do we do?

It is during such times, that we must Stand on the Promises of God. He has never broken a promise. He sealed us as His property and placed His Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee of His promises because He wants us to trust His promises, and to be transformed by them.

The verse above and what happened during Holy Week 2,000 years ago, reminds us that God’s promises are true, faithful, and fulflled in Jesus. He promised salvation and eternal life to anyone who believes in Jesus and turn to him as their Savior. As we know, Christ came to save the world and died on the cross in order to carry out God’s promise. The good news is that the beneft of this promise is available to all who invite Christ into our lives. Therefore, we can be the recipient of God’s many precious promises by faith in Christ.

As Christians, we can place our hope in the truth of God’s promises found throughout scriptures to prevail. Jesus Christ, our resurrected God, said YES and all of God’s promises are validated through Him. So, we can say AMEN, as an expression of our trust in God’s faithfulness.

Let’s declare the truth of God’s Word as we stand on His promises and see Him move on our behalf, for His glory.

We’re in a series talking about how to manage our money God’s way. If you want to have fnancial freedom, if you want to be blessed so that you can be a blessing, the frst step is obedience. If you want God’s blessing, you must follow God’s instructions. The promise of blessing is connected to the obedience of tithing. The word tithe means a tenth. God’s word tells us that the tithe belongs to the Lord; it is holy Him. Each week, we set aside God’s tithe and we bring it to our local church, and He promises to bless the rest. This is the only place in the Bible where God instructs us to test Him. God wants to bless you…Take Him up on His challenge!

Fearful Men and Rebellious Women

Matthew Henry – Eve’s being made after Adam, and out of him, puts an honour upon that sex, as the glory of the man, 1 Cor. 11:7. If man is the head, she is the crown, a crown to her husband, the crown of the visible creation. The man was dust-refned, but the woman was dust double-refned, one remove further from the earth.

Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. When people deny God’s rule they are dominated by passions and desires with little regard for the consequences on society.

Focus: Prayer of Repentance

Psalm 51,1-13 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness, according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions, Wash me thoroughly! From mine iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgression: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight, that thou mightiest be justifed when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness that the bones which thou has broken may Rejoyce. Hide thy face from my sins and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in me. Cast me not away! From thy presence and take not away thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressor thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

David Took Personal Responsibility for His Sin

In Psalm 51:3, David stated: “I acknowledge my transgression.’’ The word “acknowledge” means more than just “admit.” Rather, it involves noticing, realizing, or discovering one sinfulness so that one becomes aware of his nature and is confronted by its reality. This was the result of Nathan’s declaration ‘thou art the man.’ The frst step in real repentance is recognizing the true nature of sin and accepting responsibly for one’s transgressions. He stated that his sin is ever before him. Whenever, someone repents, he cannot hide from the sin within him. They will always keep it continually before their mental vision.

David asks God to purge him with hyssop and it will make him clean and to wash him so that he can be made whiter than snow. He is requesting joy and gladness from God that the bones that were broken may Rejoice. David knows the relationship that he has with God and cannot afford to lose it because of his sinful nature. He realized that God saw his heart and knows all about the murder and adultery that he has committed. One writer stated that you cannot hide from God; His eyes are watching you.

While on routine patrol, an offcer observed a moving vehicle in front of the building. Investigation revealed that no moving permit was issued and no elevator padding was installed. A Community Complaint was issued.

A cooperator reported that a confrmed delivered package was removed from the lobby area by the mailboxes by an unknown individual without her permission.

CCPD responded to the Paradise Deli for a disorderly group that threw bags of food on the foor then left

the establishment with food items without paying. CCPD conducted a canvas of the area for the group. The investigation is ongoing to identify the suspects involved.

A RiteAid employee reported that an unknown individual removed items from the shelves and fed the establishment without paying for the items.
