Writing to Succeed The code below is to be used by all staff. This consistency will enable students to master the spelling of new words, structure their writing correctly and use a wide and varied vocabulary.

What does this mean?
The part of the word spelt incorrectly is identified. sp. is written in the margin and the correct spelling of the word is also written clearly in the margin. Correct all spelling mistakes and circle a maximum of three high frequency words to be mastered.

The double tick is used to indicate where a word previously spelt incorrectly is now spelt correctly. This can also be used to recognise the use of sophisticated/striking/imaginative words or sentences that engage the reader.
The double line is used to indicate that students should have inserted a new paragraph at this point in their writing.

The capital C is used to indicate that students have used a lowercase or capital letter incorrectly.
The correct punctuation mark is inserted at the point where a student has misused a punctuation mark or has not used a punctuation mark correctly.
E
An E indicates a sentence where expression is not clear or a word is missing. A note is made indicating the types of words the students should insert to ensure the sentence makes sense to the reader.
