Dings, scratches and scars.
When the buzzer sounds, most cowboys end up with a few dings and scratches. Sometimes they’re an easy fix. Sometimes they leave scars. It’s the same with trucks. Sometimes you fix them and sometimes the scars let you tell a good story one more time. So, when your truck needs patching up, let us know. Because every cowboy needs a ride he can rely on. Five years ago, Cooper Davis hit peak bull riding success when he became the 2016 PBR World Champion at age 22. a serious neck injury at New York City’s Madison Square Garden Monster Energy Buck Off. His time away from bull riding allowed him to reflect on his career and granted him some much-needed perspective. Though he’s already earned a PBR World Champion title, he continues to push himself to his full potential each day. He has hit the 2021 PBR season ground running and continues to rank at the top of the work rankings. “You can’t have great bull riders without great bulls,” says PBR stock contractor and owner of Paradigm Bull Company, Jeremy Walker. This former bull rider turned stock contract shares what it takes to raise the best bucking bulls in the business. ive years ago, Cooper Davis hit peak bull riding success when he became the 2016 PBR World Champion at age 22. While it was certainly cause to celebrate, it also led to a conundrum for the Jasper, Texas, native, who’s now 27. “Where do you go from there?” he muses. He grappled with the question over the course of the years that followed. With the World Champion title behind him, he began to wonder whether it might be time to move on to something else. Always a hard worker, the rodeo routine began to feel like a job, a far cry from the adrenaline-fueled excitement that pushed him to pursue bull riding in the first place. If he was looking for a way to shake things up, he certainly got one in January of 2020.
While at New York City’s Madison Square Garden for the Monster Energy Buck Off, Davis lasted only 2.79 seconds on Midnight Rock. The cowboy landed on his neck, resulting in a fracture that put him out for several months. HIs time away from bull riding gave him an opportunity to reflect on his career and granted him some much-needed perspective. “I hate to say breaking your neck’s a good thing, but it really revamped my love for bull riding. It made me realize that I wanted to be there and I wasn’t quite ready to give it up yet,” he says. Although it may have taken a neck injury to give him the kick he needed to get his head back in the game, it’s certainly paid off for him. He currently holds the number one spot in the PBR rankings and is well on his way to earning his second World Champion title.

PBR FEATURED STORY
HARD WORK PAYS OFF While he may be best known for winning the PBR World Championship, bull riding is just one way in which Davis channels his incredible work ethic. Last year, in the midst of the pandemic, he and his wife, Kaitlyn, opened a wedding venue named Reign Hills. Located in Hardin County, Texas, he takes an active role in the dayto-day management and upkeep while Kaitlyn handles the booking and organization. “From the first year we started dating, we always thought we wanted to do something in the wedding industry, or have our own venue,” he says. “We had to go get married in Lake Tahoe, and we loved it, but there just aren’t a lot of options around the house for nicer venues that aren’t just a barn style venue.” In addition to working on the venue, Davis also takes time to maintain a disciplined fitness regimen that emphasizes core body work and cardio. “I know bull riding is only eight seconds, but it definitely helps a lot of times, just to be able to get your breathing and everything right,” he says. He knows his efforts are crucial in helping him maintain his spot at the top of the 2021 PBR rankings. Despite the danger, the tough life on the road and the injuries, it’s all second nature for Davis. Even when facing the bright lights and screaming crowds in the rodeo arena, he maintains a sense of calmness, citing his son as a main source of inspiration. “My little boy came home from school last year and he was singing, ‘My God is so big, so strong, and so mighty, there’s nothing my God can’t do.’ That always comes to mind whenever I’m getting on a bull. I’ll sit there and sing that to myself,” he says.

- COOPER DAVIS
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS Davis is a first-generation rodeo athlete — and he hopes to be the last, too. He’d prefer 5-year-old Mackston pursue a different calling, though the child has ridden the family’s mini-steer, Yellow Jacket, a few times. “If he came to me and said, ‘Hey, dad I want to ride bulls,’ of course, I would help him. But I just hope he does anything other than riding bulls,” he says. Specifically, he notes how tough it is on a person’s body. At 27, Davis sometimes feels like he’s much older, the result of more than a decade of bruises and broken bones. “I’ve been there and done it and know how hard it is,” he says. His own parents didn’t initially support his interest in bull riding, which he developed as a child after his family attended an annual rodeo in his hometown. After the event, Davis began watching PBRs on television and knew he wanted to try riding. His parents allowed him to ride sheep, but as he got older, they discouraged him from pursuing bigger animals. “My grandpa was the biggest one who didn’t want me to do it,” he says. “He wanted me to do anything but riding bulls. He would go buy me golf clubs, horses, whatever,” he recalls.
Photo: Andy Watson / bullstockmedia.com
They finally relented when he was 13, after his sister began dating someone who rode bulls. “It didn’t take long. They all came around to the idea, and they ended up being the biggest supporters I had,” he says. Even then, it was clear he had the potential to become one of the best. “I realized I had the talent to do it,” he says. “I hate to say it came easy, but from the time I started, I always put a lot of work into it and never was lazy about it,” he says. If things had turned out differently, he says he might have become a lawyer. “That was actually going to be one of my career paths if I didn’t ride bulls,” he says.

PUSHING FORWARD
I LEARN QUITE A BIT FROM THE KIDS COMING UP BEHIND ME. WHEN YOU QUIT LEARNING, YOU GET STAGNANT. - COOPER DAVIS

ABM | 2021 VOLUME 1
Though his path may be far from traditional, he’s thankful his profession allows his wife and son to join him on an incredible journey. “It was really hard for me to leave my wife and kid at home whenever I first started going, so if they weren’t with me, I was just lost,” he says. “It’s been great having them with me and comforting to have them there.” Still in their mid-20s, the Davises have a world of opportunity ahead of them. In addition to the wedding venue, Kaitlyn is busy with her lash brand, Reign Lashes, which she’s been building since 2016. And Davis, of course, will continue to give his all to maintain consistent placements as he chases his second PBR World Champion title. “We just keep trying to grow and do new things,” he says. “We’ve pushed each other in everything we’ve done. I wouldn’t be able to ride bulls the way I have without her, and vice versa.”
Photo: Andy Watson / bullstockmedia.com
Though he’s already earned a PBR World Champion title, he continues to push himself to his full potential each day. “I learn quite a bit from the kids coming up behind me. When you quit learning, you get stagnant,” Davis says. He points to up-and-comers 21-year-old Mason Taylor and 23-year-old Keyshawn Whitehorse as two of the riders who’ve managed to keep him on his toes. Still, he recognizes that earning the 2021 World Champion title is something that’s up to him and him alone. “Whatever you put into something is what you’re going to get out of it,” he says. “If you want to be a lawyer, then be a lawyer. If you want to be a bull rider, then go put the work in and do it. You’ll be just as good as what you put into it.”

JEREMY WALKER SHARES WHAT IT TAKES TO RAISE THE BEST BUCKING BULLS IN THE BUSINESS
J
eremy Walker operates his stock contracting business with a single mission: to produce a PBR World Champion Bull. As the owner of Paradigm Bull Company, he takes on the arduous challenge of spotting bulls with world-class potential and molding them into the next PBR superstars. “My job is to find them, manage them, maintain them, breed them if I have to, whatever it takes to get an elite set of bulls together and hold them together, year after year,” he says. His job is different each day. Typical operations include feeding and grooming, but there are also much more challenging aspects such as overseeing a prized bull’s care after illness or injury.
There’s also a social media component. With more than 23,800 followers on Walker’s personal Instagram profile, rodeo fans are clamoring to see the bulls in action. It’s rare to find someone capable of handling every unique element of the bull business, but Walker is specially qualified for his role. With more than 13 years of stock contracting experience, he’s become attuned to the animals and their behavior. “They’re naturally prey animals, so they’re wired to hide any kind of pain or weakness or anything they’re dealing with,” he says. “You really have to pay attention to the small things before they turn into big things.” This level of care is precisely why Walker has grown to become one of the most trusted stock contractors in the bull business.

IF YOU WANT TO DO
SOMETHING, YOU HAVE TO COMMIT TO 100 PERCENT From Bull Rider to Stock Contractor: A Natural Evolution
AND GIVE IT EVERYTHING
Walker rode bulls for more than a decade but transitioned into the world of stock contracting in 2008. “I always was fascinated by the animals,” he recalls.“Looking back on it, I always paid too much attention to the bulls. But I believe that was a phase in my life I had to go through to be able to give me the kind of understanding and know-how to be able to look at an animal and see how he bucks.” It took him some time to save enough money to get his business off the ground, so in the meantime, he sought opportunities to learn the trade. Even when faced with hardships, he soldiered on. For instance, in 2011, just six months after he got his first real set of bulls, a drought scorched the grass and pastures. “It was a fight and a struggle the entire time,” he recalls.

YOU HAVE.
He opted out of breeding the bulls and instead began buying bulls from other stock contractors. Typically, he’d seek out bulls that showed promise but perhaps needed extra care to reach their full potential. Things took off in 2016, the same year he started Paradigm Bull Company. He was working with a partner at the time who wanted bulls for PBRs. Walker told him he needed a short round bull then took it upon himself to find one. That bull was Pearl Harbor, who went on to become the 2016 PBR Reserve World Champion Bull.
Learning a Tough Lesson
Photo: Andy Watson / bullstockmedia.com
Despite Pearl Harbor’s extraordinary accomplishment, it was a bittersweet experience for Walker. In the weeks leading up to the 2016 PBR World Finals, Pearl Harbor had been the PBR’s top-ranked bull. But, at a rodeo in Napa, Idaho, SweetPro’s Bruiser managed to edge Pearl Harbor out of first. Determined to hang on to the firstplace ranking, Walker set out to take Pearl Harbor to a PBR event in Tucson, Ariz., where a solid score would allow the bull to reclaim its number one spot. However, a trusted friend convinced Walker to skip the event in order to ensure Pearl Harbor was in peak shape for the World Finals, which were approaching quickly. Rejecting his own instincts to have the bull compete in Tucson, Walker accepted his friend’s common sense recommendation and refrained from making the trip. Unfortunately, that decision backfired. Rather than using the bulls’ seasonal cumulative scores to determine the World Champion Bull, their scores reset to zero for the event. The animals’ event average scores on two heads would determine the winner. When Bruiser’s and Pearl Harbor’s scores resulted in a threeway tie alongside SweetPro’s Long John, the bulls’ cumulative season scores served as the tiebreaker. This meant Pearl Harbor was the runner-up. “That was a jagged pill that I had to swallow,” he says. But the experience also taught him an important lesson. “If you want to do something, you have to commit to 100 percent and give it everything you have. If you don’t, you’ll get your ass kicked by the guys that do.”
Success as a Stock Contractor
Through his years in the stock contracting business, Walker’s become an expert in working with the bulls on their own terms. This ability helps him succeed where others may not be so adept. A notable example involves one of Paradigm’s betterknown bulls, now known as Marquis Metal Works Bill the Butcher. The son of the athletically-gifted Air Time, Bill the Butcher (then known as A.J., for Air Time Jr.) was in a difficult spot in October 2018 after he ceased to buck as hard as he could during an Unleash the Beast event in Greensboro, N.C. This type of failure will typically end a bull’s career.

In addition to Bill the Butcher, the Paradigm roster includes several other noteworthy names among its 50 or so bulls. Marquis Metal Works Coriolis Effect is a strong contender for this year’s World Champion Bull title. Red Clark is among the top ten bulls in the PBR and remains unridden to date. Zero Time, a half-brother to the legendary Air Time, is steadily climbing the rankings. “I like the riders to know that when they have one of mine, they’ve got a shot at winning first,” he says. “A bull rider shouldn’t have to get on two bulls to get one score.” Walker thinks the animals deserve more credit in the sport. He recalls a discussion with his good friend, Jess Lockwood, about the role the bulls have played in the rodeo star’s monumental success. “I told Jess, ‘What would you be without great bucking bulls? You would not be a two-time multimillionaire world champion,” Walker recalls. “Because without the best bulls, we don’t know who the best bull rider in the world is every year.” Even for bulls that are bred for it, it’s no easy feat for a bucking bull to continue to perform week after week, year after year. “You can’t have great bull riders without great bulls. You gotta give credit where credit’s due. These animals are the other half of it. The guys who can ride the great ones, they make a lot of money. A lot more than the bulls make,” he jokes.
Photo: Andy Watson / bullstockmedia.com
Walker later assessed the bull and recognized it had serious potential. Though he recognized the challenge of getting the bull back into the PBR’s good graces, he shared his thoughts with Ben and Cinda Marquis, who decided to purchase the animal and trusted Walker with its care. Walker took to rehabbing Bill the Butcher, a process that included electromagnetic therapy treatment. It paid off, and Bill the Butcher was invited back to the PBR. In 2020, he made his way to the PBR World Finals in Arlington, Tex.

TAKING THE REINS ON YOUR
HORSE’S HEALTH Insights From Two Top Equine Experts
A
s the equine industry grows, so do the options for horse owners seeking to give their animals top-quality care. With an influx of products on the market, it’s increasingly difficult for consumers to discern which are safe and effective. The teams behind Pyranha, Inc. and Adeptus Nutrition know the value of healthy horses firsthand. Whether it’s a million-dollar Arabian racehorse or a mild-mannered equine companion, horses are special animals that require continuous care. As such, Pyranha and Adeptus develop their products with the horse’s best interests in mind. The companies tackle two distinct but related aspects of horse health. With its line of fly sprays and animal grooming products, Pyranha focuses on alleviating environmental hazards posed by flies, mosquitos and other insects. Adeptus addresses the horse’s physical health with its line of nutritional supplements.

across the country with these systems and products to protect their animals. Pyranha’s on-staff chemist oversees the development of the company’s pyrethrin-based formulas. Derived from chrysanthemums, pyrethrin contains natural insect-repelling qualities. These pyrethrin-based sprays work exceptionally well because the chrysanthemum’s natural elements vary with each annual crop. Flies can quickly become resistant to spray compositions, but as Mother Nature alters the crops, these differences make their way into Pyranha’s formulas. Therefore, they continue to be safe and effective year after year. Pyranha fly sprays also contain emulsifiers that allow them to stay in solution, meaning they won’t separate. Insect control products that separate can be less effective, particularly if not adequately shaken before use. However, emulsification means Pyranha’s products are good from the first spray to the last. This is particularly important in SprayMaster systems because these emulsified formulas won’t block the lines. Unlike competitors, Pyranha refrains from making broad statements about product efficacy due to outside factors that often influence protection duration. DiCillo contrasts this with spray companies that tout 14 days of protection, a claim typically derived from tests in highly controlled settings. “Yeah, you’ll probably have 14 days,” he says of Pyranha products. “But in a typical situation, we don’t want a horse owner to believe that their horse is okay for a whole week. We want them checking their horses periodically, even if they’re using Pyranha, to make sure something hasn’t changed, l ike they’ve sweated, or it’s rained, or that sort of thing.” Further, the Pyranha team believes people shouldn’t have to pay a premium for quality

horse care. Even with raw material prices on the rise, the company strives to keep its products affordable. Pyranha owns its own bottling company, Houston-based Barracuda Bottling, which allows the company to cut out the middleman and maintain a competitive price point. For general horse care, DiCillo recommends the products in Pyranha’s Ultimate Protection Collection. The oil-based Wipe N’ Spray with lanolin, a coat conditioner, provides excellent protection for turning out the horse and activities such as trail riding. The water-based Equine Spray & Wipe uses a

pyrethrin and permethrin formula for long-term repellency, so the product continues to work even though it appears dry. Zero-Bite is an all-natural product composed of geranium oil, peppermint oil, and clove for all horses, including those with sensitive skin. Both Equine Spray & Wipe and Zero-Bite work well with allergenic horses. Finally, the Pyranha Insecticide aerosol’s powerful formulation is used by showmen to keep their horses calm during competition and, at the same time, gives the animals a show-ready shine. “There really isn’t an equine discipline that doesn’t use our fly sprays. Even the thoroughbred racing industry uses them. But barrel racing, cutting, roping, they all take care of their horses because they depend on their horses to perform,” DiCillo says. “And that’s the key: Our products do work.” Leaders throughout the rodeo and equine communities trust the Pyranha brand, which is why it’s the fly spray of choice for organizations such as Highpoint Performance Horses and BuckWild Barrel Racing. It’s also the official fly spray of the newly-opened World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Fla., a 300-acre facility featuring 22 outdoor arenas. “It’s all about family, God and country,” DiCillo says of the brand’s relationships in the equine community. “It’s all about working together, and it’s always got to be a win-win.”
EQUINE SUPPLEMENTS PROMOTE PERFORMANCE As part of the Pyranha family, Adeptus Nutrition serves as an extension of Pyranha’s commitment to care. Founded 20 years ago by animal nutritionist and equestrian Dr. Colleen Wilson, Adeptus specializes in nutritional supplements for horses and other animals. Christine Cunningham oversees the Adeptus brand. She notes that some supplements are particularly useful for rodeo horses and other equine athletes, which may be at a higher risk of injury due to the nature of travel and rigorous training. “They’re under constant stress from travel, new surroundings, water, and, often, hay changes,” says Cunningham. “These horses usually benefit from products that help maintain their normal gut microflora since travel does interrupt these bacteria. A general vitamin and mineral supplement is also beneficial from the standpoint of supplying some of the nutrients that may be lacking due to the area of the country. For example, hays will vary in nutrients depending on the area of the country, how long they have been stored and so on.”
The intense summer heat is another reason horse owners should consider specialty supplements. “Electrolytes are very important to the horses since they often perform in warm weather with increased sweating and electrolyte loss. Electrolyte supplements keep them drinking when the water changes,” Cunningham says. When choosing supplements, she suggests first looking at the horse’s use. A strong barrel horse will have different needs than a typical farm horse, so it’s essential to consider the benefits to each. She also recommends targeting animal-specific issues such as age, mobility issues, weight maintenance and hoof problems. “There isn’t a single supplement that will fit all these athletes. Supplements that aid in maintaining their digestive systems, products that aid in normal joint function, electrolytes, as well as general vitamin supplements are most often fed,” she says. Digestive supplements are among the most popular Adeptus products. These include Allay, a digestive buffer and calmer used to alleviate stress, and Invigor, which also

promotes horse digestive health. For electrolyte replacement, horse owners look to Persevere, while Augment is a vitamin and mineral balancer. Gleam & Gain helps promote the horse’s skin and coat health as well as weight gain, while Nimble Mega is for horses’ joints, tendons and ligaments. Adeptus is currently undergoing an extensive quality control initiative led by Richard Godbee, Ph.D., a top equine health expert certified by the American College of Animal Science board. These measures will continue to ensure the Adeptus name carries only the top-quality products in the industry. It’s a testament to the passion driving the Pyranha and Adeptus brands, which DiCillo reiterates is key to the companies’ success. “The number one thing is taking care of the animal. If your horse could read, he’d use Pyranha and Adeptus,” DiCillo says.

RECAPPING RODEO’S RICHEST WEEKEND Photo: Jake Link Photography
E
ach year, the country’s best ropers and riders make their way to Arlington, Texas, for what’s become known as “the world’s richest weekend in Western Sports.” RFD-TV’s The American Rodeo is an annual tradition where relatively unknown athletes can become millionaires overnight. Presented by Durango Boots, this year’s big event took place from March 6-7 at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. The event attracts both seasoned pros and rising stars, driven by the potential for million-dollar payouts. The previous season’s Top 10 athletes in each rodeo event receive invitations to compete in The American finals weekend, while all others must earn their way in through a series of qualifier rounds over 11 days. The events include bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, barrel racing, team roping, and steer wrestling, and a win will net the contestant an impressive $100,000. Half of that amount counts toward the PRCA | RAM World Standings, which is more than enough for an athlete to earn a solid head start toward a PRCA World Champion title. Second place in each event pays $25,000, while third earns the athlete $10,000. However, those tough cowboys and cowgirls who qualify for the finals through slack events have a chance to earn a

bonus million-dollar side pot if they can beat the invited pros and win their event. Should more than one of these qualifying athletes place first in their event at The American, the winners split the million-dollar payday. It’s more challenging than ever to earn a shot at that million, but that doesn’t stop these rodeo athletes from trying. This was the first year in The American’s eight-year history that the invited athletes won in every category. But for a future aspiring World Champion, that could be a blessing in disguise as the money will roll over to next year’s American Rodeo. Here’s what went down this year at The American.

THE QUALIFIERS More than 1600 athletes from all over the country headed to Fort Worth for the qualifiers, which began on Feb. 25. This series of events leading up to the finals had a separate prize pool of $550,000. Standouts included 7-year-old barrel racer Charlie Raye Sohrt, the youngest contestant ever to qualify for The American, and barrel racer Taylor Earnhardt-Putnam, NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s sister. Tie-down roper Caleb Schmidt, who was unable to compete in the 2020 Wrangler NFR after testing positive for COVID-19, turned down an exemption invitation to go directly to the finals, gunning for the $1 million by participating in the qualifiers instead. (Barrel racer Donna Kay Rule also received an exception invitation for similar reasons, which she accepted.) But only the top contenders managed to move on to the semi-finals, where they faced off against the invited pros. Unfortunately for the underdogs, the pros proved they weren’t ready to give up their hard-earned rankings just yet. It all came to a head with the top eight contenders in each category competing at The American Shootout, which took place on Sunday, March 7.

Tilden Hooper took first with a score of 90.50 on Gunfire, which he described as a “special horse” when he accepted his check for $100,000. That score put him ahead of bareback mainstay Tim O’Connell, who earned an 89.25, and five-time bareback World Champion Kaycee Feild, who scored 88.50. $50,000 of Hooper’s earnings count toward the world standings, propelling him into first place in bareback. It’ll be an exciting year if he can keep his lead up throughout the season as the longtime rider has yet to win a World Champion title in his 15 years with the PRCA.

TIE-DOWN ROPING Photo: Jake Link Photography
Shane Hanchey’s 7.74-second time earned him the win and proves he’s gearing up for another solid year after winning last year’s Wrangler NFR tie-down roping average. Hanchey was third in the overall rankings in 2020, and his payout in Arlington gives him a solid earlyseason lead over other World Champion contenders. Allaround World Champion runner-up Tuf Cooper placed second in tie-down roping with 8.14 seconds, while Cody Craig took third with 10.20 seconds.
SADDLE BRONC It was brother vs. brother as Ryder Wright took first place in saddle bronc with a score of 91.25 on All or Nothing, coming out ahead of his younger sibling, Stetson Wright. Stetson scored 86.75 for second place. Ryder’s win at The American is his second in three years, while 21-year-old Stetson holds the 2020 all-around World Champion and the bull riding World Champion titles. Zeke Thurston placed third with a score of 82.5.

BULL RIDING After winning the Wrangler NFR bull riding average last year, Colin Fritzlan showed no signs of slowing down when he earned a 90.25 and the top $100,000 prize at The American. Fritzlan is 2020’s Resistol Rookie of the Year in bull riding and came in third in the bull riding World Champion standings last year. Six-time World Champion Sage Kimzey, who split The American’s million-dollar side pot with saddle bronc rider Cody DeMoss and barrel racer Hailey Kinsel in 2017, earned second place with a score of 89.00. Dustin Boquet placed third with 87.00.
BREAKAWAY ROPING Returning after eight years out of the game, Jill Tanner roped the win with an impressive 2.65 seconds, earning her the top prize of $100,000. Kaycee Hollingback came in second with 3.08 seconds and Sydnie Romero took third with 3.78 seconds.
STEER WRESTLING Jacob Talley is the front-runner for steer wrestling World Champion after his win at The American, clocking in at 3.87 seconds. The early-season lead could be a big help to Talley, who is still working toward his first World Champion title after more than a decade of competing. Sixteen-year PRCA veteran Tyler Pearson claimed second with 4.82 seconds, while Cody Devers took third.

TEAM ROPING Team roping duo Erich Rogers (header) and Paden Bray (heeler) each walked away with $100,000 after winning their event with a time of 5.05 seconds. Both ropers won the 2020 Wrangler NFR average title in their respective categories last year. Their earnings from The American give them a strong advantage in their chase for World Champion titles. Duo Luke Smith (header) and Wesley Thorp (heeler) placed second, while Derrick Begay (header) and longtime roper Matt Sherwood (heeler) claimed third.

BARREL RACING Three-time consecutive PRCA barrel racing World Champion Hailey Kinsel raced into first, clocking 15.420 seconds for a $100,000 payout. Last year, in addition to claiming her third barrel racing World Champion title, Kinsel won the RAM Top Gun Award, which goes to the contestant to win the most money in any Wrangler NFR event. She earned a barrel racing NFR record of $270,615 after winning five rounds and placing in eight throughout the finals. Coming in less than half a second behind Kinsel, Stevi Hillman took second place with a time of 15.903 seconds. Jessica Routier placed third, while last year’s World Champion runner-up Brittany Pozzi-Tonozzi took fourth.

LOOKING AHEAD Despite its potential to be a significant payday for rodeo’s top athletes, The American is just one event in the busy 2021 season. There’s plenty of time for fresh faces to emerge victoriously and for surprise upsets to bring down the top contenders. While The American is an athlete’s opportunity for an early-season boost, there’s an entire exciting season ahead as rodeo’s brightest stars clamor for a place at the Wrangler NFR. It’s always a wild ride at The American, and with the million-dollar bonus rolling over to next year’s pot, it’s not too soon to start saddling up for the 2022 event.
