Tell everyone who you are and what you do?

Hey, I‘m Brynja and I‘m a musician from Iceland.

What motivated you to be a singer/songwriter?

It was very unexpected. When I was 20 years old, I decided to join my friend and musician, Ósk, for a street theater workshop for a month in Norway. During the first week there was a talent show and she asked me to join her on stage to sing harmonies with her. I‘ll never forget that. I told her I wasn‘t sure I could do it but I could try.

Turned out to be a lot easier then I thought. We basically lived in the forest and had unstable internet, so with all that free time on my hands I decided I‘d learn some chords on the guitar. I came back home from that trip a very different person. Someone who sang and wrote songs about her feelings. That summer was kind of unreal and I couldn‘t understand where I was pulling these songs from.

Let’s talk about your single “Breathe” and the motivation behind the song. That song was so different from anything I‘d ever written that I didn‘t understand where it was being pulled from... kind of like when I first started writing. I think my frustrations towards society and my fear about global warming were the fuel for that one.

What goals do you want to accomplish for 2023?

I want to play live. I‘ve spent a lot of time in the studio, a lot of time working on the productions, recordings and mixes. Now I want the songs to have a life on their own.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be? Ohh wow good one. You know what? The first thing that came to mind was Tiny Desk. Let me stick with that. That would be a dream.

What makes your music unique and different than others?

The album Repeat mixes some unexpected genres; I used to make folk music and all of a sudden I got super inspired by rap and rnb. So the album ended up being a mix of that.

Tell us what your greatest accomplishment has been in your career.

I‘d say staying true to yourself is an accomplishment. In an industry where there‘s a lot of push and pull and people telling you where you should be heading as an artist, it can be tough to hear what your heart is saying through the noise. Knowing what I want and staying true to my sound is an accomplishment to me.

What song was the most difficult for you to write?

Aftur & Aftur was a challenge. I wanted it to be kind of nonsensical but yet with some meaning. And that was a challenge. Your mind always wants to make sense of things but the song is about not having to understand everything.

Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? I have a release of concerts coming up in March which I‘m very excited about it. I have some more upcoming projects, follow me on my socials to get notified!

Tell everyone who you are and what you do?.

My name is AJ and I’m the vocalist of the band.

Tell us a little about your journey and how you got to where you are today?.

I’ve been playing in bands since I was a teen. It’s been a huge part of my life, and I’ve been chasing this dream for about 20 years. I had some mild success with my old project “A Dream Of Reality”, but nothing has ever felt righter than fronting this project. It’s become an extension of my identity.

How did the name “We’re Wolves” come about?

I’ve always been a big fan of satire and growing up my two favorite all-time films were An American Werewolf in London and Teen Wolf. The juxtaposition between horror nightmare fuel and zany outlandish comedy describes a lot of what we all agreed would be our identity. The name just seemed to fit that idea perfectly.

Let’s talk about the album “Evil things” and the motivation behind the album.

Evil Things is a concept record, we based the whole album on Donte’s Divine comedy “Inferno”. It was a chance for the band to flex their writing abilities more and for us to take more chances with our sound. Each song on the record is based on a different layer of hell both sonically and lyrically, which gave us an opportunity to give our sound more diversity.

What are some things the band wants to accomplish for 2023? Honestly we’re just looking to create as much content as humanly possible. The creation of songs and the recording process of bringing those creations to life are really what fuel us. We’re in the process of working on a lot of new music right now. Trying to make at least 40 new songs, and figure out what to do after that. Also looking into possibilities of touring as well.

What’s the creative process like when you make a new song? Generally, songs start with some killer riff. Either my guitarist will bring me one or my producer will. We’ve always written music first and vocals second. I have a philosophy that if the music is awesome then the vocals will be too. No matter how the creation of the song is, it always starts that way before I go off and write lyrics and melodies. I like the song to take me on a journey and tell me its story.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be? Hands down it would be Japan. I’ve always been in love with the culture and the beauty of the architecture.

What do you like to do outside of music (hobbies, activities, etc.)? Honestly, I would love to get into directing music videos and films. It’s been a passion of mine my whole life. I’ve been on a lot of sets, written a lot of treatments, and done a fair share of acting. Being behind the camera fascinates me, and eventually, I would like to have the opportunity to create for others.

Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? Right now, just working on as much new music as humanly possible, outside of that I can’t really get into too much detail about what we have going on behind the scenes. You can expect a lot of content this year and next.
