Trey Washington, and Caleb
McGuire based in Vancouver,
Washington. Mike is a very successful entrepreneur with ventures in trucking as well as commercial and residential real estate. Trey owns and operates restaurants and bars. While Caleb is a leading tech executive who specializes in marketing. We started this venture as friends based on Mike’s idea during the pandemic.
Q. Let’s talk about “NewBreath
Clothing” and the motivation behind the brand?
A. While everyone was in quarantine,
Mike’s original concept was figuring out a way for the average working man and the many frontline workers to safely go out to their jobs. The more we talked about it, the more we realized we could also be of help to the entire families and communities to emerge from lockdown and gather while being safe and keeping everyone, they love safe.
Q. Tell us about your mask and the material?
A. Each item is manufactured from a range of tech fabrics with advanced properties that support the functionality of the face masks.
The pieces in lighter weight fabric contour to the body for comfort and ease of mobility while providing +40 UV protection. Those in medium weight feature tiny capillaries for moisture wicking while the heavy weight pieces are dual-sided fused material that exude a more luxurious look and feel. The mask area also features washable charcoal filters that capture particulates in the air including allergens and bacteria.
Q. Where do you see yourself in the next three years?
A. We see NewBreath as becoming an essential part of everyone’s wardrobe. The designs are minimalist and classic, so they are easily incorporated into different wardrobes from casuals to dressier outfits. And in this age of communicable contagions NewBreath will remain functional years down the line.
Q. Do you have any specials right now?
A. Since we just launched, we don’t have any specials at the moment. As we go along, I’m sure we’ll be able to offer some specials for our shoppers.
Q. How did you come up with that name and its meaning?
A. We considered several names for a while but when we came up with NewBreath it seemed to effectively capture a sense of a fresh start. It’s not only clearly described what the garments are supposed to provide people but a way of depicting the brand as a functional and sensible approach to the
“new normal”.
Q. What makes your brand different than other companies?
A. NewBreath is made entirely in the US as a line of performance tops with the versatility to be worn for a range of activities and feature an extended funnel neck that fits snuggly cover your mouth and nose and can be held in place by ear straps. Part of how we envisioned the line is as a superior alternative to disposable face masks. We saw how they were fast accumulating on the streets as trash and polluting the environment. And because they’re not biodegradable, they just increase the pile up in landfills. Additionally, many face masks are uncomfortable, ill-fitting, cumbersome, and many lose them or leave them behind. NewBreath is also sustainable because they’re durable enough to be worn for years to come even as everyday wear.
Q. Are you working on any new projects or designs?
A. We’re always trying to imagine new designs, but we want to roll them out gradually.
Q. What is your favorite product you have?
A. Right now I’d say our favorites are the Reno and Miami tops because they feature OSHA standard reflective stripes for high visibility.
They’re great for running and biking at night and perfect for construction and road work.
